to change FFA control on the League

7 days notice from FIFA to tell them what’s next.

Hopefully NNSW, TAS and NT have been brought into the fold and it’s the ACT being the only difficult party (although it looks like O’Neill might be facing his own revolt).

could capital football's absence be because there is no one to represent them - because o'neill has lost his backing?

What a bunch of fucking scumbags.

I think the title of the article is a little misleading. Capital Football chaired by Mark O'Neill was the only one of the nine state federations who didn't show up. The article also mentions... "one source privy to discussions said was “held in a very positive spirit, though Capital Football’s absence was duly noted”. Mark O'Neill's position seems to be in stark contrast to all the clubs that are part of Capital Football, and may have his own revolt to deal with.

the irony in this is Lowys whole  schtick has been we can't allow one bloc to be able to control the game but here is a group representing 13% of the game doing just that in Lowys name.

if ACT don't show up why does it matter ? If the others can be convinced to vote for the reforms it will pass....and ACT will forever be known as the ones on the outer....they could say good bye to any thoughts of an A-League team anytime soon.

But seriously.  The womens vote isn't divided like that as I read it. The 3 women nominated have 1 vote each.

Recalcitrants would need to control 1 of them.

How the Feds nominate the 3 would be the key

and the State Feds 55% isn't necessarily divided up equally, the CRWG suggests they work it out themsleves

Could well be the 4 minnows get nowhere near 6.11% each

Sport Australia enters debate over changes to FFA constitution

The fight over changes to Football Federation Australia’s constitution has become political with Sport Australia weighing into the debate.

The Australian understands Sport Australia has circulated a letter to FFA’s member associations and the A-League clubs expressing concern over the recommendations issued by the Congress Review Working Group last month.

In the letter, seen by The Australian, Sport Australia chief executive Kate Palmer said it is the “view of Sport Australia that there are a number of recommendations in the (CRWG) report that do not meet Sport Australia’s governance principles.

“A full implementation of the recommendations would be of concern to Sport Australia.

“A detailed and public statement in regard to our view of the report will be released next week.

“Sport Australia understands that some member federations also have concerns about the proposed recommendations. Accordingly we recommend that the issues and concerns be worked through in time and good faith.”

Ms Palmer’s letter is understood to have brought critical reaction from the parties who are pushing for a change in FFA’s constitution.

The CRWG, which had the backing of world governing body FIFA, made a number of recommendations including a change in the voting structure of FFA’s congress as well as supporting an independent A-League.

A resolution calling for the implementation of the changes have been set and will be put to FFA today with an EGM likely to called for September 28 or any time after that date.

Sport Australia’s involvement will not please FIFA, who insist on no government interference in the workings of their member associations.

Sport Australia?WTF?
We are looking more like a third world dictatorship everday.
Where have these idiots come from?If they had any interest in Football, they would be giving us funding proportional to our position on the sporting landscape. Now they want to give advice on governance?WTF?Since when did Lowy ever listen to them?
Time for FIFA to issue a strong rebuke to tell them to F..k off .
Everything thats happening suggests Lowy is prepared to let FIFA push the nuclear button.

Government interference from a group which was involved in the CWRG report. How much political clout does Lowy have? FIFA will not take kindly to attempted government interference. We have already been warned about it.

FIFA sanction fears as federal government weighs in on FFA war

SEPTEMBER 04, 2018

THE fight for control of Australian football has taken a new twist amid allegations of government involvement of the sort expressly banned by FIFA.

A day before major reforms to widen the franchise at the head of the game are due to be submitted for an extraordinary general meeting, the major government agency for sport has written a letter warning of unspecified “concerns” over the reforms, and calling for them to be “worked through in good time and in good faith”.

FIFA has often taken a hard line on perceptions of political interference, suspending countries such as Kuwait and Pakistan and only this year warning Spain and Nigeria that they faced a similar threat.

In the letter from Sport Australia CEO Kate Palmer to members of the Congress Review Working Group, the federal government’s interest in the CRWG’s reforms is noted and Palmer promises to publish a “detailed and public statement in regard to our view of the report … next week”.

The CRWG’s blueprint, put together by a coalition of A-League clubs, members associations, the players union and an FFA director, have already been approved by FIFA as a way to close more than two years of bitter infighting over the balance of power at the head of the sport.

The majority of the state associations, the clubs, the union and representatives of the women’s game have backed the reforms, but FFA chairman Steven Lowy has said he will stand down if they are passed.

The letter, to members of the FIFA-backed Congress Review Working Party, appears to contravene FIFA’s Article 15 which insists its member associations must “be neutral in terms of politics and religion … [and] independent and avoid any form of political interference”.

It’s understood that Sport Australia has been warned by at least one recipient that it risks breaching Article 15.

So SA have given 48mill over ten years to Football. How much have they given to other sports?

Between 2004 and 2011/12 they had given $73m* to the FFA but that includes special assistance in the years when the FFA was in huge trouble financially.  Since 2011/12 I think we have only received the "standard" allocations that all NSO's get based on participation numbers and elite youth development.

So the FFA were never going to call the EGM. Waited for a Fed to ask for it then left it to the last day. FIFA will note this. Now it comes out Sport Aus visited FFA HQ before sending the letter of objection and little Stevie knew nothing of it and did not ask for it. Key being it will take a week for SA to reword Stevie’s points of objection.
Stevie still has his block voting pac sitting in the wings for 2 October
