Ha ha.
I recon we’ll have more members than wanderers this season and that we’ll both finish higher than them.
I recon this year it’s a Roar/City fight for first and second place and Aloisi with sweet revenge in the GF.
The good news is City will at least qualify for the ACL ... at last ...

I think I did cross-check a bit, but going by last season's thread also difficult for now, so thanks for clarification Midfielder, maybe I'll re-try closer to the date with the figures I had gathered last year: https://forum.insidesport.com.au/FindPost2587014.aspx

+xJust to continue Pat Jennings' good work, but with more up to date/corrected figures, following Midfielder's table above: The HAL is down by 1.4% or 1386 from where it was a 1 week out from the season last year. 95,647 vs 97,032 CCM are down 1353 (-25%) MCI are down 1157 (-12%) SFC are down 1379 (-11%) WSW are down 1178 (-7%) Glory are down 415 (-6%) Victory are marginally down by 355 (-1%) NIX are marginally down by 58 (-1%) ADL are up 993 (19%) Jets are up 1491 (20%) BRI are up 2026 (32%) Sorry my table shows last year at the start of the season not a week out. If you look at the last line of the table it shows the season starting figures, What PJ did was look at the figures a week out. As I said mine have the Friday the season started last year... only so much you can get in a table without making it confusing

+x1385 to beat last years starting total. 4353 to hit 100.000. even if we do, it doesn't look great consideirng the season starts 2 weeks later. and consideirng the later start, there is less likely to be an increase in post Round 1 membership numbers

“it doesn't look great consideirng the season starts 2 weeks later” ... what’s that got to do with it?
“and consideirng the later start, there is less likely to be an increase in post Round 1 membership numbers” ... why?

There is still 26 rounds to go after round 1, as there was last year.

I think the point is that even though the season started later, the sales and marketing of memberships started the same time as previous years, so it will be interesting if there is the usual increase after round 1 or whether that growth has been used up already. This was something I was also thinking about.

Wanderers will be interesting to watch. They don't have a home game until Round 4 so late sign ups would be expected but if they get off to a bad start that might not happen.

@AJF
That’s drawing a long bow. The membership numbers are effectively “flat” on last year and might go over by a bit but it’s nothing to get excited about.
Christmas still occurs after R1 which is where clubs get their biggest kicker from with people buying presents and for the second half of the season.

@Waz, speaking from experience, MV were much more active in pushing their membership this year and they did start marketing at the same time, including multiple direct calls to organise payment over the phone. Other people I know were the same and there isnt too many holding out so dont expect much growth after rnd 1. But we will see.

@ AJF
I think the same can be said of Roar, way more organised than last year and better pricing and promotion all round.
I’m not bullish about attendances this year but membership suggests the slide has ended but that the recovery hasn’t started.
Personally I think we’re on the same trajectory as last year - there’ll be a lift in memberships post round 1 based on individual team form (remembering more than half of memberships sold are for 3 or 5 games which you don’t need to buy before R1) and another lift before Christmas
I also think the clubs will get a lift with the new 2-3 game miniroos pass which are technically membership. If they do that there’ll be a significant uplift but hopefully that happens late in the season so we can do a like for like comparison.
But this “2 weeks later thing” is irrelevant I think, people anchor their purchasing decision around when the Season starts not the calendar

MV called me before last season to renew, but didn’t call me this season even though I left it a lot later.

Roar announced yesterday they are adding the 6,500 ‘Roar Rascals’ to their membership numbers. Not sure if it will be added to today’s total but Roars membership number will jump to nearly 15k when they do.

I’m guessing most clubs will have the equivalent of Roar Rascals as it’s built out of the free MiniRoos tickets.
It’s a 2+2 game family membership. 2 free games and 2 games for $95
At the start of the week they had about 6,500 of these sold and might push 10k when they start pushing it again next week.
I’d rather they left the addition of these numbers until later in the season though, it will distort comparisons with previous seasons (although the club will argue it’s just an extension of the membership options and a legitimate connection to grassroots which people have been arguing for)

That sounds like a lot. Any other clubs announce there figures for that option?

All clubs offer various tiers and membership options. I'm sure MV would still be on top for full season members but would be interesting to see by how much and how the list changes if we only count full season members.

Victory have a lot a five game and country members as they get support accross regional Victoria. I have heard they have a many as 5000 members in Geelong. You would imagine a lot of those are not full memberships.
