All of a sudden the voters of Wentworth know what they're doing

Re-counts is giving votes to Phelps so fingers crossed. Really not that important though, the damage has been done.

Just like everybody else on the Left, if they don't agree with you, they are wrong.
Personally, despite being a Liberal voter, I am glad to see a strong swing against them at Wentworth and I hope it carries through to the election.
I know it is said a lot when referring to politicians but the Liberal party are so out of touch. How they came up with the decision to remove Turnbull as PM, which will see more than half of them unemployed after next election, astounds me.

Someone from the right *cough* rusty was suggesting that they had no idea what they're voting for, not me. There's also been a bunch of conservative commentators with the same talking point.

But yes I agree, the parties policies aren't reflecting the values of that electorate and voting in a Liberal Party candidate has been ineffective at influencing policy even when their local member was Prime Minister so why wouldn't they vote in an independent who isn't beholden to the hard right?

Oh I see.  Whenever someone disagrees with a greenie, it must be because they are "less intelligent than them".  I probably only have a tafe qualification and work a blue collar job as well right?  Maybe I should check my hands to make sure I've got 4 fingers and a thumb.  Then again I probably can't even count.  Only stupid, unintelligent people vote Liberals, while all the aristocrats who get B's in high school and did a unit of law at university vote for the intelligent, ethical party's like Labor and the Greens, and virtuous independents like Phelps.

My guess is that the Liberals panicked because donations to the party had dried up and they didnt have the war chest to compete with Labor the unions at the next election.  Although the party is made of wets and dries most of its funding comes from the conservative base, and most conservatives hated Turnbull for his cozying up the ABC and policy focus on boutique issues like gay marriage, NEG and the barrier reef, while demonstrating a lack of fight on bread and butter issues like borders and mining.

My opinion was that Malcolm wasn't a terrible prime minister and he definitely had policy successes, in particular reducing the deficit and passing tax cuts, but failed to engage his conservative base and was totally impotent articulating an ideological narrative for centre right politics and Liberal values.  Instead he tried to play both sides of the fence, took his conservative base for granted and steered the Liberal party towards a lite version of Labor, competing with Labor on issues like energy, education and health, rather than fighting on them borders, economic growth, etc.

I wont be upset when Labor smash Liberals in the next election, the Liberals need to understand that kowtowing to the left and trying to make friends with everyone in the press gallery, while it may get you slightly calmer waters in the media, doesnt mean they will ever vote for you.  Hopefully we can do a massive reset and they can elect as leader somebody who can articulate an ideological narrative while uniting both sides of the part.  Morrison isnt it.

I’m almost covinced , like many others , this is a false flag organisation designed to influence the upcoming mid terms. The red flags here are the timing, days out from the elections as momentum shifts towards the Republicans. Secondly there’s a mass of migrants coming from Honduras which is bound to work in Trumps favour, so the bombs serve to distract from that. Secondly none of the pipe bombs detonated, which indicates they were indeed, fake bombs. Thirdly and most tellingly, the left media, in particular CNN, is all over the coverage like a fat kid on cake. They are running stories conflating republican verbal attacks on leftists with the actions of terrorism. One of the leading articles is titled “Here’s how many times Trump attacked bomb targets”. Note also the lack of hysterical coverage and blame game when Republicans congress were sent envelopes containing ricin, and when a looney left marched onto a baseball and started shooting at Republicans. You just can’t sense the double standards, it’s a round house kick to the face.

Finally Mcjules, the left is so deranged and diabolical, that it is totally foreseeable they would do something like this to influence the election. This is just the starting point too, the more the lefts pernicious tactics fail , the more likely they are to turn violent. Real bombs will be next.

So ScoMo  wants to help farmers by repurposing 3.4 bil set aside for the  NDIS. and  trying to sell it like they fully  funded the ndis despite them not doing so. Instead of pitting two  groups who need it against each other.  Change  politicians pay and retirement payments.

How?

That's just moving an embassy to the Capital of Israel. Plus it was just a public debate topic, not actual policy just yet.

Why are some people so easily outraged?

Those are not.

Climate change isn't something subscribed to just by the left. It is bi-partisan. The approach is the only differing point - one side wants sustainable transformation to Green Energy over time, and pensioners to be able to afford to turn the heater on in winter and the aircon on in summer's stifling heat.

As for Human Rights abuse. Australia's approach has saved literally hundreds of lives at sea and there are less people in detention than ever before as opposed to 50,000 illegal arrivals in 15 months.

That side is in bed with the coal company. We could have had clean energy years ago.

Australia's approach is the illegal act. Seeking asylum is a human right and is not illegal.

That is your perspective!

Everyone knows that coal has a lifespan and that one day, it will have a diminished role, but not when China and India are building hundreds of coal power plants.

This side only advocates for a sustainable transition so that we can have a reliable and cheap energy source rather than the average power bill now being over $1000 per quarter. A lot of people can't afford that.

Asylum isn’t a human rights issue, its a economics and politics issue. Look at the current caravan of migrants trying to enter USA from Honduras. Mexico is a signatory to the UN refugee convention, but for those leaving Honduras Mexico isn’t good enough, they want the lifestyle, privileges and all the bells and whistles the USA offers. When your goal is not only sanctuary from persecution or death but to attain a better standard of living, you then cease to be an asylum seeker and you become an economic migrant. Its the same here in Australia with boats and so forth, ulimately the migrants bypass these safe alternatives in favour of the Australian dream, and the Greens and Labor are only too happy to oblige them even if it means they give their life savings to people smugglers for a return trip, or even worse death. The Greens/Labor want the moral high ground and the asylum seekers want to dole cheque, so its quid pro quo.

Also foreign processing of those seeking asylum has been suggested by advocacy groups to help "stop the boats" but the government (both Liberal and Labor) have not wanted to do this.

It's also good to support immigration through the proper legal channels so that Australia is better able to assist genuine refugees rather than have a lot of economic referees which result in those genuine refugees who are abiding by the rules and laws to miss out.

In addition, if Australia signals that it is open for business for people trafficking, hundreds of them will die at sea.

My point is that generally the biggest whingers about refugees are also the most vocal about not giving out foreign aid when logic would tell you if we help these countries out there'd be less refugees to start with.

Look at Trump saying he's going to cut off foreign aid to Honduras and Nicaragua and other countries in the area.  Well shit, that's just going to make the problem worse.
