Has anyone read exactly when the players have to be released by clubs prior to the Asian Cup?

Tournament starts on 5 January.
Apparently Australia may play Oman on December 30 in the Middle East.

This would be unwise. Nabbout is even less dangerous in attack. He'll run himself into the ground, but he won't score. He's just not a natural number 9.  I think it's obvious that we have absolutely no choice but to stick with Juric unless and until we pull a proper striker out of somewhere.

Nabbout would be the utility man across the front 3 for me. Throw him on late in games and use his pace and energy to create things. I'd start Jmac or Giannou depending on the team we are playing, there's no need to bring both Juric and Giannou as they are similar players and we just can't rely on Juric anymore regardless. Always injured and his form has fallen off a cliff.

Giannou has looked uniquely hopeless every time he has played for the socceroos. Juric has at least had several good games and scored quite a few goals for us, so I still trust him more. But you're right, injuries have hobbled him and he seems to have regressed. I just have no faith in Giannou at all.

Maybe he will still be poor, but he deserves a shot to see if he has improved. Playing for a good club in the europa league.

Giannou scored a well taken goal against Kuwait. It demonstrated a striker's instinct and considerable skill.

I should have another look at the game to see how many shots he had over the match.

From first observations he appeared to create few chances for himself, even if he created chances for others and was integral in build up play that led to chances for others.

agree with this. who would you take?  it would be great to pair someone up with luongo as a pair of 6's.  i'd even consider brillante because he fits the role well.

Arnold knows Brillante's game well, but has  preferred others so far for the role.

McGree, O'Neill, Brillante and Antonis stake a good claim as the A League midfielder. Risdon, Deng and Grant going for the RB spot.

Players like Ikon and Hrustic are on the outer. Hopefully Mabil and Arzani fulfil their potential.

Does anyone know the cut-off date for Asian Cup squads to be submitted?

Ten days before kickoff of the first match, which would be 26 December 2018 based on Article 24.4.3 on page 36 of the Competition Regulations.

It also stipulates a preliminary list of up to 50 players from which the final squad must be named, however it is coy on the deadline. Last time it was one month before kickoff of the first match: Article 5.15, page 32.

Gotta say I'm really glad Goodwin and Ikon are not only playing, but playing well. Goodwin has the foot and Ikon takes on the man. Leckie must be converted to RB now surely and Kruse's days are quit numbered despite being Bundesliga 2. Mabil is also on fire and Ryan Williams has done everything asked of him.

International window very soon. Want to see

Ryan, Vukovic, Langerak
Deng, Degenek, Sainsbury, Williams, Milligan, Behich, Gersbach
Mooy, Rogic, Luongo, Irvine, McGree, Antonis
Leckie, Maclaren, Giannou, Mabil, Goodwin, Ikon, Juric

Not so ideal at RB but I feel Leckie must be RB or then Deng and Degenek/ Williams in an emergency. Antonis has the form and brain while Ikon, Goodwin and Mabil need a chance against Lebanon especially.

No mongrel in midfield - it needs someone to break up play

Mass and Irvine have played together twice now as twin 6's or 8's depending on how you see it.
First time against Chile where they bossed it with their aggression and mobility.
Second against Kuwait it was more of the same playing that O'Neil/Brilliante role buzzing about picking everything up.
Question is how do you fit Mooy and Rogic

Mooy...............Luongo

...........Rogic

This is it the Defensive Midfield triangle variation in a 1-4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.

Rogic seems more comfortable  in a free roaming number 10 role, rather  than on the pitch  as a twin number 10 or Attacking Mid.

Irvine isn't  good enough - yet. He doesn't appear to  be busy enough and pick up the number of possessions, and actions, that Milligan, Jedi, Mooy or Luongo do in the role.  The main asset he has over the others is his aerial ability, if we continue to use a relatively short CB in Milligan.

Milligan is now also the preferred captain - and- probably the most experienced international player on the pitch now Jedi has retired.

If we cop a long, high ball, aerial bombardment from an opponent, Irvine is useful in aerial duels - like Jedi was.

If we have:

............Sains....   ...Milligan.........

..........Mooy.............Luongo
...................Rogic

It gives us considerable  distribution quality on the deck.

I saw a fair bit of Taggart's game against Glory.

He doesn't seem to be in the same top form he was a year ago, just before he was injured.

I don't have an opinion on what sort of form Taggart is in, but I'm not sure how you could make an assessment based on the Perth game.  He was completely isolated up front and saw very little ball.  For the very small amount of ball he did see, it seemed like Brisbane were trying to use him as a target man to hold the ball up, and I don't think this is a strength of his.

Just read this, very interesting, just a question. I can't recall us ever playing the Uzbeks in a friendly, why is this?? One of the best sides in the region and they've previously had some pretty decent players. Except for when we smacked them in 2011 they've tested us and beaten us at youth level. Think a game against them would do a lot better than Lebanon.
