Club and international football is very different, one is a week in week out pressure to perform or you will lose your place in the squad as usually you'll find yourself in a team with teammates of similar or even higher quality than themselves. While for the NT lets face it at their positions there isn't much competition for places with any quality.

It is just a different mindset and skillset required at club level which is why it is very common to find players who only play decently at international level and vice versa. And in the case of Sainsbury at least, he looks like one of them.
