+xDC tell me a bit about Meredith. He has impressed me. Good to see the TCA using a home grown boy. Tigers need a wicket now before this pair get too confident.

+x+xCaught most of Tas Tigers v Vic yesterday. Tigers ended with 476 after making only 81 in the first innings . Both Doolan and Silk scored 90 plus each in a big opening stand. Paine scored a good 40. Jackson Bird reached 50 and Wade made 137. Wade and Doolan are two of the top run makers in the Shield with averages of over 50 and 80 respectively. Pertinently, Pattinson didn't bowl yesterday. Victoria need 282 to win in their second innings. DC do you give Doolan any chance for a recall? He is good enough when in top form. Looks like Greg Chappell or Mark Waugh. In troughs he struggles to rotate the strike, and, struggles with concentration to just defend a lot of balls when the bowling is good. Then again Hussey, Voges and Rogers all did well as batters selected at a mature age for Test cricket. I'd even say Doolan is better than any current Aussie batter in the Test team when in form. Ricky Ponting thinks very highly of him.

Wondering if Langer still thinks Harris is "mediocre with flashes of brilliance". The leftie needs for the new national coach to have changed that view if he is to feature in the Indian series.

Has he matured sufficiently since his last Test four years ago? I reckoned at the time he never got a fair go..with only the four tests. He came undone in the UAE like many Oz batsmen do and then was dropped.

+x+xTigers need to break this partnership.. and fast Double breakthru made.. Brilliant snare Timmy Paine. Do you have access to a speed gun on Meredith on the screen? He was making life uncomfortable for the batters, bowling a lot faster than any other Tassie bowler on a dead pitch. I was very impressed! He has the stamina to play FC cricket too. His action doesn't take as much out of him as the likes of Cummins. He also has more endurance than Stanlake. Meredith is shorter and skids on. One of the Tas staff says he has been recorded at 150 KPH.

I liked the look of Vic opening left handed bat, Harris.
He only has a Shield average of 32 though, but has been better this season.
He looked compact and correct today.

Tassie will lose now because their bowlers can not build sufficient pressure. Allowing at least one four ball every over.. other than Bird.

One of the Tas staff says he has been recorded at 150 KPH. Sounds like Mohammad Sami - short, stamina, skids on, 150+ - test bowling average of north of 50 :P http://www.espncricinfo.com/pakistan/content/player/41324.htmlAccording to cricket 101 - short bowlers need lateral movement (typically swing but seam will suffice). Tall bowlers who do not swing need to grip in the pitch (for seam) and not skid on to be successful. There's always exceptions (like a Wagner bounceathon), but this is the general rule. Short skiddy bowler need to swing if they do not grip and be slow seam (which is also very very very deadly - ala tall bowler McGrath). Quality intl batsmen are not beaten by pace - else Lee would not average over 30 in test cricket. Movement kills batsmen. Lateral movement beats pace. Thommo v Lillee. McGrath v Lee or Gillespie... Getting lateral movement matters more than pace. Pace only wins when there is no lateral movement...

You saw Paine's spectacular catch off Meredith in dismissing White. Even though I saw Meredith bowl a withering spell where he really hurried up batters' shots, and softened them up with some express short stuff, Tassie captain, Bailey, wasn't happy with his bowlers, apart from Bird.

Marcus Harris is being mentioned as a test opener. It seems as though he did well against Tasmania.

+xMarcus Harris is being mentioned as a test opener. It seems as though he did well against Tasmania. Yesterday Harris didn't took like getting out until he did. He was very annoyed with himself when he was dismissed LBW by Bell. He looked uncomfortable against some of Meredith's express bowling, but stayed in.

Frankie Worrall had the perfect recipe for bowling on these slow, flat decks where there is no discernible swing. . Keep the ball up and make the batsman play. Tremain also. Take a look at his hilites reel..
