@ crimsoncrusoe
“The new Board has a big job in front of them”
Maybe they do, but the whole point of an independent A League means that wont be a part of the Boards job. One of the central arguments is the clubs will be better than the ffa at running this thing, particularly in terms of promotion and commercial aspects. We’ll see.
“FFA have focused on trying to do everything to make the broken model survive”
I disagree. The ffa have done everything to cling on to power and have done very little to help the HAL. And if that meant putting the HAL through an “acid bath” to try and weaken the club owners position they were prepared to do it. They have basically done nothing to help the competition for about 5 years meanwhile, club owners are powerless under the franchise agreements to do anything.
There’s a lot of other stuff in there worthy of discussion but those two points are relevant because the new board needs to keep its hands off the HAL (and Div 2) because it cannot have the time and skills necessary to run the professional game and do all the other stuff it needs to do.
It’s not just the HAL that’s in trouble either, it’s the game from top to bottom that has been neglected under Lowys power management. That’s the big job in front of the Board - the whole frogging game.

@waz, I can't disagree with anything you said. My point about the S.Lowy regime doing whatever they could to make the broken model survive, was not meant to divert attention from their own power play. But since it's inception the franchise model has taken precedence over all aspects of football. That model is inextricably intertwined with the HAL clubs. They like the rest of the football community are losers because of it.Yet they are conflicted, because they have money invested in it ,through licences and have lost so much money because of it. They are not getting their fair share of revenue and that is a byproduct of the model.FFA keep control and keep the money as franchisor. The model finances their existence and helps them keep control and stay in power.
FFA have hidden behind the Sustainability mantra to maintain the model and hence control.
An independent HAL means a new model and hopefully a true football pyramid.A new model means FFA lose a lot of power and control.

Fair points. I think what many misunderstood at the time frank took control (though certainly not his critics who did warn us) was that Frank was about power and control and doing it his way, andonky his way.
The HAL model is simple enough to unwind, and the owners will all have their views on what’s best but expansion and a Div 2 will follow with no objection from Hal club owners.
Pro/Rel is a blessing and a curse. If you want to see the curse look at NPLQ which introduced p/r this year and killed its northern state teams, so it can’t be done tomorrow but it will get done eventually

You have 2 leagues going nowhere with franchise teams. You can't go up and you can't go down. What's the point? If you don't have any access to the first tier and you are only getting relegated to a league not to different to the one you're in.

The SelectFew, Yep,NPL qld is not a good example of how a true second tier should work.NPLQ is a classic example of not a true football pyramid. Clubs who havent earnt the right to be there and The problem is lots of people want the football pyramid..BUT....with a little tweek to protect some aspect ,like a region or manipulate some outcome. They want to keep some bias or control. The true football pyramid is complete survival of the fittest. As it should be.If you are good enough you go up.If you aren't you go down.

+xDoes anyone have the FTA rating for the last two weeks. No one appears to be reporting them. I cant even get it from my usual sources. At times one wonders whether a directive from Oztam has gone out to reporting agencies.

The Mariners wont rate higher then that for the remainder of the season. Not even a few thousand extra streamers can save those numbers.

They arent making cutoff for multi channels, which is around 100k. Mediaweek, DeciderTV and others either dont have the data or appear unwilling or unable to publish it.

We are deep deep deep trouble from a ratings stance... a huge job to rebuild ..
Something that got under my goat was almost a total lack of media pre game and even more annoying was where was Gallop and why was he not out selling, doing door stops in the two weeks leading up to it.

Because Gallop is only looking out for his wallet. He does not care about football.
