Side strain.

Poms have an opening batsman who excels in Asia in Jennings - but he completely sucks in England. Like hilariously awfully bad against swing. Burns seems to be solid with him.

1 Burns 2 Jennings 3 Bairstow 4 Root 5 Stokes 6 Buttler 7 Foakes+ 8 S Curran 9 Broad/Woakes 10 Leech/Ali 11 Anderson

England players are under real incumbency pressure right now all the time. Bairstow was dropped from the last test. Curran was dropped earlier in the year after already starring in the series as a motm! Ali has been bowling sublime - but Leech may take his spot. Rashid looks to be gone after Asia due to Leech. Woakes scored a hundred versus India and must be breathing down Broad's neck when fit again for England.

Basically anyone in the England team bar Anderson, Burns, Root and Foakes is droppable. Despite Leeach and Curran starring... Burns and Foakes have only been around 5 minutes, but they already have more incumbency now than Stokes, Ali, Bairstow, Broad...

This is not common in winning teams.. unless they're captained by Virat Kohli :P and England has been winning... A few ego's are going to be tested with this development...

England before the last test tried to claim Stokes and Ali were batsmen and not allrounders, as Rashid and Curran were the allrounders. And Leach and Anderson the bowlers!  It is damn hilarious. I think these England selectors and coach are doing well though.

The funny thing is - since they've been telling Moeen that he's a batsman - he has bowled so much better. He skittled India in his comeback. ANd helped to skittle Sri Lanka as well. Bairstow is unhappy about losing his gloves finally...

This England cricket team is very entertaining. The ODI side is clinical and predictable, this test team is just a hilarious bunch of misfits who have been thrown together out of the spare parts bin to try and resemble a test team - and they fight and win. It is hilarious and entertaining. Woakes was batting at 7 earlier this year against India! But he scored a hundred!!! Seriously, Woakes, Stokes, Curran, Ali, Rashid, How many allrounders are needed? Buttler as the second keeper to Bairstow, Buttler now as the third keeper in the team to Bairstow and Foakes! How many wicketkeepers are needed?

Four keepers.. shows you what a shambles the Poms are in. Lets hope they remain that way for when we tour mid next year. Dunno much about Foakes. A flash in the pan perhaps? Have heard he is England's best keeper tho. Always believe you should play your best gloveman in tests.

Foakes has been knocking the door down for quite some time. He was on the last Ashes tour as a squad member. Alec Stewart predicted great things from Foakes years ago... Buttler said Foakes has raised the standard of wicket keeping significantly. Easily Foakes is the best keeper of the 3 - but it's his runs that have made the spot his. Century in debut innings under pressure in a foreign dustbowl. Then an unbreaten 65 in the next game on a dustbowl.

The top order has been a shambles bar Root, but at 5, 6 and 7 wickets down - that England tail just keeps producing runs and runs and runs. England has just basically given up on Stoneman, Vince, Malan - and said stuff it - we'll play allrounders and wicket keepers then to try and score some runs. They tried Pope earlier this year who is a wk in county as a #4 specialist batsman in test. That failed. But - I have to hand it to their selectors, they're prepared to try new things. Sam Curran was an inspired selection and he has repaid them ever so handsomely. Just 19 years of age at the time, weak FC stats but dripping talent, but recent success for the Lions, just an inspired selection.

Equally as inspired is Jos Buttler as a batsman. He's averaging 45 for England this year. Not bad for a guy who averaged 30 at county and test level as a keeper before his recall.

6 bowlers, 3 wicket keepers, draw lots to see who bats 3, the England way. Disapointingly England only has 5 bowlers in the next test. But an additional keeper. :P

Why pick Agar and not give him a game? He could not do any worse than a couple of our so called super bats.

Rain saves Aus again.

Now onto the tests. And the Aus "world class" but weaker than Pak, SA and Eng (and maybe Ind too - wait n see) attack takes on Kohli and friends..

By 'world class' I mean it wins at home sometimes - like WI, Bangla, SL and NZL lol. How's SA doing...

Okay - I admit I'm joking. I don't think Aus's attack is world class by any away from home standard...

Sorry :(

I just know SL won in Pak and NZ dont lose in SL UAE and Eng for the past 6 years plus...

Shall we call it the 'okay class attack' at home...

In a stirring mood tonite Paddles?

Starc is the weak link in our world class attack imho. Hazey and Cummins would like some grass on the decks. Will CA oblige?

I've been stirring this for over a week and yourself in particular....

Haze, Starc and Lyon average over 37 this year so far...

I simpy do not get the world class attack claim you keep making, at all...

Safrica outbowled them.. Pakistan outbowled them... and India bowled better in Eng and SA then them...

I really want you to define 'world class' - do you simply mean in Aus - because if so - that's clearly and undoubtedly the SA attack that is world class...

And I've told you before - India will eat your boys on grass - you need to road up to have any chance in the tests... India has swingers and seamers - CA hasn't seen one of those since McGrath/Clarke retired and Harris/Pattinson broke down. India will beat you on grass. They bowl better than CA in Eng and SA...

Sorry for stirring - I freely admit that I am - but I have watched so much cricket of late.... I know where I'm coming from...

Aus is so far behind on grass - its not funny. Forget SA, NZL, Eng Pak or Ind - I don't even know if you have Holder and Gabriel of WI beat right now tbf with their Dukes ball  as of this year... Aus cricket has gone so far backwards of late - it isn't funny anymore...

Your batsmen don't play lateral movement and your bowlers do not bowl it... Grass, clouds, dust-bowls, Dukes... they're all your enemy now...

I am trolling... but I really do not get why you think Haze, Starc and Lyon are "World Class".... at all...

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/the-ashes-2015/engine/records/averages/batting_bowling_by_team.html?class=1;id=2018;type=year

tbh - most of the world does not get it. And we get Bradman > Tendulkar... that's an easy win for the Aussie cricket fan... but we do not get this Aus attack reputation with Aus media at alll...

I've seen it referred to this week as "glass jaw" attack... Nothing away from home is suggesting otherwise tbf...

They were world class against the Pommies 2017/18.  Ditto against India 2014/15. Other than SA 2016 our home record has been very impressive. Taking wickets on Asian roads appears to be the biggest problem for our world class attack.. specially Hazlewood as quality seamers need grass. Did you not say at CF  you rated Hazlewood. (btw Paddles CF have invited me back. Go figure)

So by world class, you do simply mean on Australian roads, and not in SA, Eng, or any Asian conditions including like the UAE whereas Abbas stars/dominates? I mean whats his career average - like 15 playing on Asian roads :P 14 in England... That does make more sense. "World Class in Australia"...

Because India has outbowled your Aus boys of late in South Africa, England and India. And they get the job done in Asian conditions... England seems built to be able to play anywhere but Australia right now, they have absolutely demo'd Sri Lanka 3-0.

Yes, I used to rate Hazelwood - but he's fallen far behind where I rate the Pak or SA boys and I've never thought much of Starc in tests. Pattinson is the Aussie bowler I really like. He has a lovely outswinger. I agree that the only attack better than Australia's on Australian roads is South Africa. Everyone else seems to struggle with the lack of  spin, swing or seam on offer.

But having said that, Pakistan is really upping their game with Hasan Ali and Shaheen Afridi about to be released onto the test scene. Amir had a much better year too. It will be very interesting how Abbas goes in Australia. Plus all their spinners, Shadhab, Yasir, Bilal... Two drawn series in England for them now, and a tester in SA coming up which I predict will be a seam bowler shootout...

Yeah - I told Raja that you were locked out...

CA has allbut destroyed Hazlewoods career by taking away decks that assist the seamer.

Thanks anyway mate contacting CF.. I cuda used your help coupla months back. Did raja offer an explanation why I was locked out?

Based on Finch's efforts against spin I think we are in trouble come Test time. He, Short and McDermott tossed away their wickets with poorly executed sweeps. Thank goodness those latter two are not in our Test squad. Maxwell is lucky to still be there.

Brakes have well and truly been put on our flat track bullies since spin was introduced. Oh how the Indians must gloat when they see the way we capitulate to the turning ball. Without Smith and Handscomb our Baggy Greens are in for a tuff time.

India must be wishing they had five spinners in their side. Once the spin carnage was over our late order regrouped to give us a competitive score. Carey continues to impress.

Sam Whiteman, the Western Australia wicketkeeper-batsman, or should it be the former WA w/b, will lead a  CAXI against the India touring side in a four-day tour match at the SCG on Wednesday. There are a smattering of talented youngsters in the squad in Param Uppal, Jon Merlo, Dan Fallins and David Grant,  but the majority are shield discards or blokes that can not crack a permanent Shield spot. I see this as somewhat of an insult to the second ranked nation in the world. For instance Darcy Short has played 9 Shield matches since 2016 @23.  A week needs to be set aside from Shield cricket to cater for the form state to take on the touring team.. just like what was done in the past. It unable to set the round aside then the team can play catch up later surely. I must admit  am pleased to see the game being played at one of our iconic Test venues.. which was one of the key Review recommendations.

Cricket Australia XI squad: Sam Whiteman (capt), Max Bryant, Jake Carder, Jackson Coleman, Harry Conway, Daniel Fallins, David Grant, Aaron Hardie, Jonathan Merlo, Harry Nielsen (wk), D'Arcy Short, Param Uppal.

Pity our ODI boys dont wear the same uniform as the T20 ones. It actually has some style and the colors are far more striking than that garish yellow.

This 2007 WC ODI strip would look good on our boys today.

Actually India is number 1 ranked but this is a very nice CA XI. One of the better ones yet.

This is why tour games are a waste of time for the touring team.

Has Whiteman given away keeping? Shame if he has as he is one of the best in the country.
