Their sorry pace attack is making Short look good. This SCG deck is not a road.

Short sucks. This is a huge problem for India. I do hope they're simply being lack-luster else Khawaja, Finch and Smarsh may just wreck their best chance ever at winning in Aus...

Trevor Bayliss has called on CA and the ECB to "get together" to ensure a better standard of preparation for both teams on Ashes tours. Bayliss made this plea a year ago when England were touring here. He called then for each touring side to play a side at least the standard of an A team before the First Test.  Last time England toured here they faced  a bunch of CAX1 kids. Can ECB provide better quality opposition this time than last time the Baggy Greens toured?

ECB can and will. It is a question of whether Australia reciprocate in 2021/22...

England take their Lions very seriously... Aus seems to care less about Aus A.

Lions lost to Pak A in the test - but they're turning the tables in the limited overs stuff...

Agree nothing less than A standard. The squad ideally should contain a handful of your best youngsters in any case.

The Lions are a major team in English cricket. Our A side seems to be a a group of blokes cobbled together..almost an afteridea

I admire blokes who can bat time.. put a price on their wicket. But 34-125 balls is a little slow from Jake Carder against the Indians. Someone needs to remind the young West Aussie that this is now a three day game.

Ravi has also a moderate record here.. 21w @49. Jadeja surprisingly had not toured here. @49 av in England and a whopping @80 in NZ.

Yeah - the only spinner if any India should think about playing is Kuldeep - the wristie...

Jadeja has played plenty of ODI games in Aus - averages over 60 including a game against the UAE where he cashed in...

Shoulda said Jadeja had not played any Tests.

I gotcha the first time :P

I made this point to my Indian pals at cricforum yesterday...

I think the Aus attack is overrated. I prefer the Pakistani and South African attacks easily. But only South Africa has outbowled Australia in Australia of late. So at least at home, the Aussie bowlers know what to do....
Here's the problem with India picking spinners in Australia. If India play 6 batsmen, and Aus bat first at Perth, Adelaide, or MCG - India suddenly only have three genuine bowling options. SA managed to win despite the same problem, but they Philander, Abbott and Rabada...
India may play 5 batsmen and have a very long batting tail. Now even if you pick Ashwin or Jadeja to bat 7 and have 4 seamers. What is the point of playing Ashwin or Jadeja over a batsman? The spinner I would play is Kuldeep, because he will get some turn. Ashwin and Jadeja are by no means guaranteed to spin it outside of Sydney 5th day - and there is no guarantee who wins the toss in Sydney neither.
So outside of Sydney - I would either go for a 4 prong pace attack - and flag the spinners. Or if Kuldeep is confident he can be a threat, go 3 seamers and Kuldeep.
Of course Kohli will go with either Ashwin or Jadeja.
Jadeja has not played tests in Aus - but averages over 85 in NZ.
Jadeja has played 21 ODI in Aus - averages over 63. This is boosted by his 2/23 against the UAE there.
Ashwin 6 tests in Aus - averages over 50 with the ball and 27 with the bat.

I am not being critical of these players, who are champions in Asia. But this match is not in Asia. Australian pitches care little for finger spin, do not Lyon confuse you - he is an overspinner in AUs, not a side spinner. Even then he is going at 34 in Aus...
If spin is a must, look to Kuldeep... and a 3 prong seam attack. I do not like to gamble on a long tail, of 4 seam bowlers and Kuldeep - and if that is done then Kumar really has to play as the most useful bowler batsman. I do not see Ashwin or Jadeja being bowling threats when Aus bat first... Kuldeep however, well he has shown that he will get turn in Australia with his wrist action...

Scrap that. Vihari bowls!!!! This is what India need!
okay - my team:
1 Shaw 2 Vijay/Dhawan 3 Pujara 4 Kohli 5 Rahane 6 Vihali 7 Pant + 8 Bhuvi/Yadav 9 I Sharma/Yadav 10 Kuldeep 11 Bumrah
Gavaskar wants Vihari and 2 more spinners and 2 new ball bowlers. That's stupid. Adelaide may turn a bit, it will not turn to the point of 3 spinners required...
I am really worried about Bhuvi on roads, think he may be too slow and get devoured. If Bhuvi aint swinging it and the pitch is a road - just play Yadav...

If they wanted Kuldeep surely he would be playing in this game.

Must be some pitch breakup as Shami now getting some reverse.

Nothing is sure with Kohli in selection ever...

He will drop Pujara if he wakes up on the wrong side of the bed...

Why is Vijay not playing this game???

Kohli will make selection errors, but Kohli does when and how kohli wants...

Evidently Shaw has an ankle injury. So I got it amiss. I detected a hyperextension of the leg as he wheeled back. Reason I chose ACL injury.

Shaw is undoubtedly the next big thing from India. But he aint faced an endless flurry of bouncers yet... So he is still an unknown prospect this tour.

I rate him. A kiwi pal said he was suss to the short ball in the A tour (but I saw him smash some pull shots).

He is like Sehwag - he goes for the bowlers. Sehwag sucked in NZ and Aus, though...

See if you can find some footage of Aaron Hardie. I will tell you he looks a good all round prospect. I know we use that term a lot. But he looks the real deal. For a big bloke he has a good solid technique. Loved how he twinkletoed down the track and deposited Ashwin over the long on rope.

I just saw Shaw in a moonboot. 4 to 6weeks out I am guessing.

He is from a wealthy family.. married to a Bollywood actress. The Shrey Helmet Co is owned by a member of his family.. pretty sure those facts are correct.

I am not sure of the  Shrey Helmet part or whether that was a much wider or different Kohli family, his dad was a criminal lawyer and his mum a housewife,  but well of course he would have a Bollywood wife... And of course he is rich af by now.

Michael Clarke and David Warner can tell us ad nauseam what it was like for them being star cricketers in a cricket obsessed country in Sydney's west as they drive their Lamborghini's, date supermodels and celebs of SBW's level  and how despite being cricketing celebs in their teenage years - how life never gave them anything easy... Because everyone is a multi millionaire in their very early 20's just like them...

Wake up Baggers...

This is cross cultural - there is no Asia vs Australia vs England vs NZ... the star sportsman lives a different life from everyone else - white, black or purple,  it doesn't matter where they're from... or what their parents income is... and this life takes real shape in their early teenage years... even later when Smithy and Botham didn't even finish school... they were already destined for riches and greatness.. and they knew it!

All superstar sportsman, born rich or poor, it makes no difference, by the time they are old enough to realise money - they are already sporting stars... freebies, complimentaries, bonuses, free entry, scholarships, status, fame, and gorgeous women by the throngs etc  and as such live a dream land charmed life...

The tragedy - is when they get injured before cashing in...

Brand Kohli could buy his own apparell company tomorrow - diadora, avia, asics... and we all know it...

If you want to hate on Kohli - there are better reasons than these... Personally - I don't like how he blames his bowlers so often for losses when I think the batting could have done better...

"Shrey Helmets" as the name suggests, was a range of helmets launched in 2013 in the memory of the youngest member Shrey, of the Kohli family.
I misunderstood about Shrey helmets. Yes it appears it is another Kohli.. unless the cricketer Kohlis family owns  the sports company that makes it.

All superstar sportsman, born rich or poor, it makes no difference, by the time they are old enough to realise money - they are already sporting stars... freebies, complimentaries, bonuses, free entry, scholarships, status, fame etc  and as such live a dream land charmed life...

Wake up Baggers.

"Wake up" is like "get real" - its an expression or euphemism similar to  "get upto speed". A polite way of saying - "you're behind".

I like and respect you - and Kohli has a lot reasons to be disliked. I do not believe his childhood or wife is one... This is by the by for any sporting superstar... It is ubiquitous that sporting heroes marry women most men only dream of...

I know of a beautiful doctor, from a family full of doctors, who couldn't wait to drop her knickers and become the solo mum of a sports star's baby... It is what it is. I think even Brett Lee was once married to a doctor...  He was seriously beaming over waist height there... There's a lot of benefits to being a "baller"... Female gorgeous lawyers will swoon over a completely illiterate pro-rugby player... even if his definition of romance and intimacy is a public toilet...

Sportsmen - the very good ones - live in a world that is completely different to everyone else's bar pop music and movie stars... Born rich or poor, trust me - they all had more fun than you or I did in their teens or twenties... For some like Nathan Lyon, it takes longer, but it does come around eventually... Yeah - you know what I'm talking about :P

The complimentary bottles pop, the knickers drop...

I think the best way of summarizing it is - when we're older we dream of being sportsmen to shag the supermodels, but when we were kids - we simply dreamed of being sportsmen - before supermodels were on our agenda... Almost all sportsmen (regardless of where they're from) - rich or poor, lived a very rich life...

150 partnership between Hardie and Neilsen. Suck it up India. This pair would not look out of place in the Baggy Green side.

It appears only the Swami Army comes out for T20s. The ground is all but empty bar the archaic members Stand. ..and even that is only half full.

This non declaration has p***** off BCCI and Kohli. They wanted Vijay to get a hit out.  Is this poor sportsmanship by CA and the skipper or just  good psychology? Comments.

Aaron Hardie has announced himself. 4 wickets and a polished 86. WA should pick him in the next Shield game.

Fallins should not be any easier to dislodge. Has just come off a Futures League century.

I know what wake up means.  I do not have a hate on Kohli. He is a touch arrogant. But I admire him as a sportsman. . his passion for the game. Same as Steve Waugh's.
