Well contested topic, MD Crowe, Kohli, Root, Tendulkar best batsmen in their team but liked to be shielded at 4. Even Smithy more often likes to be at 4.

Whereas Bradman, Ponting, KW, Dravid et al made the climb anyway. Sometimes they want to, sometimes it because there are more senior players locked into their spots (KW had Taylor, Ponting had the Waughs).

Obviously, the further one slides down the middle order, the easier it is for batting.

I am definitely for shielding your best batter, you don't want to risk them getting out early when the ball is doing a lot.

The Indian batsmen haven't done their research, they keep playing the drive when it just isn't on at this pitch early in the innings.

Totally agree that's how Hazlewood gets most of his wickets, playing stupid shots at wide deliveries, probably because of T20 influence. The loss of Kholi is a big blow.

Getting tired of visiting teams fulfilling their obligations by touring Australia, garbage so far by India. It's not like they're facing the bowling of Johnson, every dismissal could have left alone. Predicting 4-0 to Australia and not a single test getting past 4 days.

Three Indian batsmen dismissed on the drive. They haven’t adjusted to Australian lengths yet.

What do people think of the Channel 7 commentary? I think it’s been pretty good so far.

After watching us struggle overseas in SA and Asia this year it is a contrast to see us on top in a game!

The Aussie public have no idea what we are like overseas, because only about 10percent of the population see us in action away from home!

We haven’t batted yet!

Oh India... What have you done?

Paddles I think I may follow suit. This is a non biased commentary of the last dismissal

"OUT! Caught. Josh Hazlewood to Ajinkya Rahane. Out-swinging length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, outside edge to second slip, by Handscomb. Another catch behind the wicket, India aren't learning from their mistakes. It's wide from Hazlewood and swinging even wider, but Rahane can't resist a feeble waft when he should be leaving well alone. It's a poor stroke in the circumstances as the visitors sink further into the mire."

easier wording.....Garbage delivery, garbage shot, garbage game. Simply this bowling attack got spanked recently overseas with poor returns for all, here they look like world beaters. This Indian side is showing nothing of their performance in England, they never wafted at wide deliveries over there. As for us not having batted yet, really if that's the saving grace "a poor batting performance by Australia"....then turn the television off, life's too short to watch garbage.

When a batsman allows it to go through to the keeper with no danger to his stumps because it is to wide, you don't score runs (thus low economy rate to bowler) but you also don't lose your wicket (thus Hazlewood's poor strike rate nearly 60 isn't it? Compared to Cummins 48, Pattinson's 39 (amazing) and Starc 50. No I would say pretty poor line no need to play afterall it is test cricket economy rate isn't important, score at 2 runs per over who cares, as long as you don't lose your wicket.

Nuts.  Count how many balls per over are left alone compared to having to play in a days play of  say 20 overs . I am betting the batsman has had to play at least two thirds of deliveries.. Other blokes are taking the wickets from pressure he is building with his metronomic bowling.. not my words Glenn McGraths.  So his strike rate looks moderate.. and it is.

Indians are falling for the wide one. Kohli too.. what a blinder from Ussie.

Yeah, I do and watch nearly everything, including the Caribbean league. But I was watching 7 this morning, because Mark Waugh is on Fox and his commentary brings me to tears. I'll give 7 longer even though they bought Slats across at least I don't have to listen to the speech impediment high pitch voice of Michael Clarke any more. And I like Simon Katich though he should have punch Clarke harder, afterall if you're going to be dropped for your actions, might as make it worth it. Plus Ricky's there and of course Mel's there too.

Just remember McGrath's from NSW as if he would have anything to say against a fellow NSWman. At least your consistent Baggers with the old his pressure leads to wickets at the other end. Just like he did in South Africa, Bangladesh, India, South Africa in Australia, Sri Lanka.....Hang on a sec we didn't take wickets there, Josh obviously wasn't doing his job well enough.

I prefer the Fox commentary team. Pity they did not snare Ricky tho.. so I will be switching back and forth. I am pleased James Brayshaw is back behind a mic. I like his wit.

Was coming here to say Sharmas taking the game away bit by bit. Harris catches him over the boundary so Sharma goes the same shot but edges it and Harris completes the catch. Horrible match awareness there. Take a nice single after the six.

They continue to throw away their wickets. Are they still in limited overs mode. Is the pressure of never having won in OZ driving these rash shots?

Meanwhile Pujara putters along watching the carnage from the other end.

At least some of the drives you could give some credit to the bowlers for getting the batsman driving early in the day. Sharmas was just a horrific way to through away a wicket when he was looking good. For test cricket after hitting the six the pressures off and you either tap the next one for a single or are happy to block the over out.

Sharma is the biggest culprit for it, he is such a good batter but mentally he is woeful at test level. Pant is another one, just likes to bat like its an ODI.
