+xObviously we’ll take a 1-1 but how we didn’t lose that by 4 or 5 goals I don’t know. These two games should bring the Matilda’s down to earth a bit - theres no need for panic but it’s a reminder the quality in world football extends beyond the USA and Brazil, and that our available squad depth needs extending, and no matter who is playing we need to cut out the friggin basic turnovers. Amazing result, England played all over Australia. The English had an offside goal ruled out, not even close to offside. A clear penalty shout dismissed, another possible penalty shout also dismissed. England were by far the better team.

Waz, You just said USA and Brazil. Brazil haven't been a top side in some time... USA, France, England, Netherlands, Spain are the top sides currently with a whole bunch of euro sides coming up strong.
Score should be 3 or 4 to our 1 today. The ref was absolutely terrible. .

Scoreline flatters us big time. We need to improve a lot between now and the world cup to be in contention. Average performance at best. Thought Fowler was good coming on late. Pacey lass with skills.

@ chondro
Fair enough and I agree although I think you misunderstood the point I was making which was results in the Tournament of Nations (against Brazil and the USA) have bred a sense of complacency - not just in the footballing public but also in the Matilda’s set up.
The quality in Europe (in sides as you say like France, England, Netherlands, Spain) are where a real test lies and it’s a reminder to everyone in Australian football that we can’t rest or become complacent. Women’s gootball is advancing at a remarkable rate.

Most would agree that this is the best 11?
Williams Carpenter/Polkinghorne/Kennedy/Catley Butt/VanEgmond/Kellond-Knight Raso/Kerr/Devanna
Subs? GK-Next best 2? (Arnold, Campbell, Dumont, Whyman +? are options) CB-Next best 2? (Crummer, Alleway, Cooper +? are options) RB-likely Raso as secondary position LB-likely Kellond-Knight as a secondary position DM/CM-Harrison, Luik, Sayer CM/AM-Gorry, Chidiac, Simon RW-Foord (Gielnik and Ibini as other options) LW-Logarzo S-Next best? (Fowler, Siemsen, Heyman, Yeoman-dale, Vine, Ayres, Flannery, Lloyd are options)
Looks asthough the Goalkeeping, centreback and second or third striking options need to be sorted out a.s.a.p. Attacking midfielders aren't in great form either.

Nz u17 WC team through to the semi final. Beat Japan on penalties.... a team that destroyed us in qualifying. Credit to the kiwis. Not sure they can beat Spain but I'm rooting for them.

We'll be playing Italy Brazil Jamaica in that order in Valenciennes, Montpellier and Grenoble respectively.
Looks like I'll be in the air during the Italy game.
Winning the group will get a 3rd placed opponent then a likely clash with Netherlands England or Japan I reckon. Hate these 24 team tournaments.
