Victoria XI: Travis Dean (c), Nic Maddinson, Will Pucovski, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron White, Matt Short, Sam Harper, James Pattinson, Scott Boland, Jon Holland, Chris Tremain.
Western Australia squad: Mitch Marsh (c), Ashton Turner (vc), Ashton Agar, William Bosisto, Hilton Cartwright, Liam Guthrie, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kelly, David Moody, Josh Philippe, Jhye Richardson, D'Arcy Short, Marcus Stoinis, Jonathon Wells.
Not only has dud Travis Dean been retained he is the new Bushie skipper. Go figure. The exciting but mentally fatigued Will Pucovski returns for the VICS. As does the even more exciting Josh Philippe for the Warriors.

Tasmania XI: Jordan Silk, Alex Doolan, Ben McDermott, Jake Doran, George Bailey, Matthew Wade (C) , Simon Milenko, Alex Pyecroft, Jackson Bird , Gabe Bell, Riley Meredith.
Queensland XI: Jimmy Peirson (c/wk), Joe Burns, Matthew Renshaw, Marnus Labuschagne, Charlie Hemphrey, Sam Heazlett, Jack Wildermuth, Michael Neser, Luke Feldman, Mark Steketee, Mitchell Swepson.
Tassie at home stays with their winning side. Sam Heazlett gets another crack for the Bulls.

Question: As this is Round 6 and officially the second half of the 10 round comp has the Duke ball been introduced? If not then the bowlers have been short changed.. and with an Ashes tour to England in the new year.

+x+xTassie with a terrible start on this odd colored Bellerive deck. Tigers 167.. Bulls 6/61. Must be a minefield. Wasn't there. Didn't realise it was on! The Bellerive wicket is too conducive to pace bowlers a lot of the time, and then it can really flatten out. The wicket needs to be prepared to encourage spin.

MCG looks the usual flat batting track. Bellerive is clearly a bowling track. The SCG is a bit both ways. The way a cricket deck should be.
Tom Cooper just blew the chance of his third century of the season.

Australia's heir to the gloves Alex Carey with a stylish ton to put the Redbacks in a strong position.

Larkin and Hughes are destroying South Australia with both heading to centuries. Hughes is one I missed from my list of FC averages in the test thread. He has a FC average of 38.01 and has a reasonable season so far. This would be his second century joining Cooper as the only players with two centuries. Needs to be a bit more consistent.

+xAustralia's heir to the gloves Alex Carey with a stylish ton to put the Redbacks in a strong position. That is an interesting battle currently with Paine probably around for a couple of years being he is 34 currently, and has been slightly injury prone. Carey would be the front runner currently, but is he? so an interesting couple of years coming up. The battle would be between 2... Carey and Peirson (Peirson is the younger of the 2) Peirson is the superior batsman with a first class average of 31 compared to Carey's 26, also considering Peirson plays the majority of his games on the more difficult wicket being the Gabba compared to the batting paradise that is Adelaide. Even this century by Carey is obviously on a batsman's paradise as seen by NSW openers. But Carey would be considered the better technical keeper IMO. Selectors have been known, especially recently, to go with inferior keepers in favour of a slightly better batting average. But one thing is certain the proud tradition of South Australia and Queensland producing exceptional keepers still continues. Remember Baggers that Peirson's promotion to captain was encouraged and supported by CA, and politics is very much alive in Australian Cricket.

He has a FC average of 38.01 and has a reasonable season so far. This would be his second century joining Cooper as the only players with two centuries. Needs to be a bit more consistent. The only thing about Hughes I don't like is that the majority of his runs he scores is confined to Sydney or Canberra. Struggles a lot away from home grounds, In Perth he scored 1 and 6. Melbourne 8 and 14 Adelaide 60 and 18 (That's only an 18 av from those 6 innings) but his average this year is currently 48 and climbing. Last year his big scores away from home were at No 6 for NSW but when he opened for NSW his scores were 2, 9, 49, 25, 30, 59, (av 29) compared to his overall average of 41. IMO I wonder whether Hughes may be more suited to No 6 and NSW may be doing him a dis-service by making him open. But with that same argument is one of the reasons I'm starting to come around to Patterson. Last year Patterson away from home scored 14, 0, 12, 16, 22, 17, 24, 16, 43 and 53 (217 av 21.7), but overall he scored 672 runs at 37. That is a big discrepancy and only 1 test a year is played in Sydney. But this year Patterson is scoring away from home with the century in Perth being his best to date, so though I don't think Patterson is ready just yet, he has definitely improved and maybe next year if this form continues he is worthy of being potentially selected.

I don’t mind the Bellerive deck offering something for the quicks. Our batsmen have to learn to bat in green swinging conditions.

+xI don’t mind the Bellerive deck offering something for the quicks. Our batsmen have to learn to bat in green swinging conditions. It is refreshing to see 2 attacks actually aiming for the top of off and quite a few Bowled, LBW and caught keeper. But also how much did the batsmen struggle when the bowlers did that We see that at International level, with the Indian bowlers troubling the Australian batsmen with accurate bowling (what was it 6 caught behind 2 bowled and 1 lbw) compared to Australia's bowlers that got 1 bowled by Starc and 3 caught behind and so far only 1 caught behind in the second innings. This wide of off stump bowling which is apparent in current Australian bowlers hoping for loose shots to get wickets is a becoming detrimental to Australian batsmen that can't play top of off attack well. The other two matches WA is in trouble and we see 2 bowled from 5 wickets and the other game is just a run fest or is it poor bowling.

Adelaide is not a batting paradise, it has changed a lot. According to Ed Cowan it is now the hardest place to bat against the new ball. Carey would not be facing the new ball much but it probably carries through all the batting to some extent. Sam Whiteman was being talked about as being in contention before he was injured. Not sure what is happening with him now but perhaps he could be an option. Carey is being favoured in the shorter forms of the game which has been used as stepping stone for the next keeper in the past.

Yes he and Peirson are probably battling it out to take over from Tim. Carey is impressing more and more with the bat. A Shield century will add plenty to his resume. I admire they way he takes on the spinners. Hitting inside out over cover. We need someone to take on the spinners.. specially in Asian sub cont. His keeping can not be faulted. Technically as good as Tim himself. After all he came to the notice of selectors by breaking the domestic wicket keeping record.. what was it the season before last or one before? Sam Whiteman has dropped down the pecking order since suffering a similar finger injury to Paine. He has missed at least one full season.. I still do not know if even now he is back keeping. Josh Inglis has taken over his gloves for WA and he only played as a bat in the CAX1 match against India.

0/233 is shouting out a road at the SCG. Do we really want to to replicate this for the Test match? When two state cricketers can each score unbeaten tons. Imagine what the likes of Kohli, Pujara, Rahane or even Vijay could do on it. Even the worlds best attack could not stop that Indian juggernaut.

His team mate the affable George Bailey has posted a very gritty ton on a tuff Bellerive deck. That is a message to selectors that Bailey is far from done and dusted. Dropping the captaincy and changing that awful stance is paying dividends. Just when he hits some form.. the Shield is in recess. Silly bloody policy to break up the Shield season imho.. Momentum is won and lost during this time history shows.

They earn that in 1 year. No wonder they push the big bash, money has to come from somewhere. And we know the current bowlers are on similar payments. What the hell is S Marsh on? Maybe I should dig out my pads, I'm prepared to put in 80 hour weeks training for that amount of money. They really do have to look at player payments especially now, for these contracts are ridiculous for the quality of play they are providing. These are the highest paid players to don the baggy green. Honestly unless you get one of these ridiculous contracts you have no option but to look elsewhere for money and if T20 provides an opportunity I can't blame state players for taking the cash, not while the CA money goes to a very select few and selectors are obligated to play them otherwise it is wasted money.

Last four Tiger wickets fell to the leg spin of Mitchell Swepson. Will Tassie regret not picking a specialist spinner. I know DC says Bellerive does not turn so does not warrant a spin selection.

Incredible. I reckon a good whack of that 7.6million would be endorsements. Do not expect too many corporate people would be lining up to have these two advertise their products now. Specially Warner. I agree you can not blame the state players taking T20 dosh. When you actually sit down and think about the fact that out of all the kids that pick up a cricket bat and ball and aspire to one day play for their country or state. There are only a mere 50 or so who will actually achieve this at any one time. So that is a lot of disappointed young cricketers whose dreams are dashed.
