I thought I read WSW only had 8 000 plus for a home game in this or last week's round.
What has happened to all those loud, raucous WSW fans who used to attend home games and create that great atmosphere?
Didn't WSW average about 16 000 per game from their HAL inauguration until a year or two ago, when they had the old home ground that was supposed to be rebuilt?
If I'm wrong can WSW fans throw some light on the subject?

Sydney is an event city. Western Sydney is no different. They don't go for the players. They go for what they can get out of the night for themselves. Its about them, not the club.

No doubt it would be shit to follow your team around and never really having a home, particularly at spotless stadium, i for one would forgo a attending membership and go for a social one until they returned home, then just got to a couple of games. Is it true that if you wanted a decent seat at the new stadium you had to purchase equivalent at spotless to be at the front of the queue. I find it crap alternating between marval and aami, id hate to to be in the wanderers supporters shoes... though the new place will be fantastic.

stupid response Enzo bearzot especially coming from your mob, the hardcore supporters left after ongoing problems with security and the club board hungrarian salami and JT never listened really red and black bloc had its days. Will there be a rise of the bloc again maybe and the Wanderers crowds yes our forest year at spotless and and we had decent crowds 14000 or so but the stadium treated us like farm animals. People got sick of it kids getting metal detected and the capo getting kicked out for simply starting a fuck the FFA chant. Half of the problems were with security and police club did nothing really never defended the fans as they want to keep the lowy show happy.

I've still got mates that went to the first ever game v Nepean some still go others got sick of the bullshit and left but are still supporters of the club. I've talked to the ones who don't go anymore they will probably come to a game or two at the new stadium that's it. Once we move into new parra the crowds will come back the bloc will be full voice and capacity new dawn for the club rise of the club come next year.

Look your not always gonna get sell outs or big crowds as they say go to countries like Brazil italy Croatia Serbia Spain France etc they don't always get big crowds. They get shit crowds for playing regular teams that are shit but once they play big clubs everyone goes to those games happens everywhere. I went to two games in Brazil Palmerias and Grêmio Palmerias played a team that's in the relegation zone and won 3-0 crowds was a bit below average but there supporters still showed up. Same with Grêmio below average crowd and played a shit team and got a shit crowd like in their stadium it's a 60k seater so they got 17k in a 60k arena it looked similar to the WSW game v ccm but in a bigger stadium. But if Grêmio play bigger clubs they get bigger crowds same with Palmerias.

The whole match day experience for West Sydney fans is trash and not worth the money atm. Might as well wait it out.

I prefer going to games tbh better feel and vibe, next week will be big just hope those moronic ESFC fans sit in tier allocated bay and don't end up wandering into enemy territory. we've had the coorprote box morons, last season the rainy derby where 5 ESFC fans got into the away bay at Allianz and tried to fight the rbb, lucky security got their first because it could of gotten very bad for them.

I think that when Lyall Gorman was CEO there was a conscious effort to attract young families to the game. In the first few seasons nearly half the home games started at 5pm. There was a family friendly vibe at games with pregame music. In the last few years there has been a decreasing amount of early starts. This season there are no 5pm starts, and more Friday night games than ever before. This obviously has not impacted the RBB, but those that sit in general admission surely notice much less kids at the games. It also doesn't help that the wanderers have been a terrible team to watch in this time.

The novelty of being a new franchise has worn off. The stadium situation is not helping. Expect similar issues tor the winning melbiurne bid over the next 3 years.

12,000 (first season average) 14,000 12,000 14,000 17,000 (boosted by that 61k ANZ crowd) 12,000 8,000 (this season)
And they only need a 24,000 crowd on Saturday to regain a season average of 12,000.
In a season with one home derby they average 12k, when there’s two it’s 14k.
So the “large crowds” haven’t really gone anywhere, WSW are just proof that you put a 12-14k average in a stadium like Para and it looks great but you put them in a giant bowl like Spotless and they look shit.

The derbies are artificially pushing crowd averages up at homebush. At Parramatta the derby crowds were only 20k. A fairer comparison between years would be crowd averages minus derbies.

Agreed I’ve always argued that average crowds less derbies gives an indication of the health of attendances as even a 20k derby crowd puts 1.5k on the season average attendance
I can’t be bothered to run five+ years of history but my guess would be if you take out the derbies from that data WSWs average would settle around 12k ... which is not bad but some people have this mythical idea that wanderers have drawn big average crowds in the past when they actually haven’t.
They’re a well supported club with a 12k average

Funnily, Spotless has a capacity of 24k but the viewing experience is so much worse with an oval. At Parra, there was a proper match day experience of getting a meal/drinks etc pre game. That doesn’t exist at Homebush.
Coupled with poor results and you have the drop.

Agreed.
And if it falls below that because they have a poor season on the pitch so what, that’s what happens to football teams the world over.

For my friends and I, it is all down to the stadium. The Showground is the worst stadium in Australia to watch a rectangular code in, with horrible angles, a long distance to the ground, and absolutely zero atmosphere. A crowd of 10k at the cavernous ANZ is better than at the Showground. We all just go to the pub and watch games now.
That said, the crap football we've played the past few seasons can't have helped with crowd numbers either.

Playing on an oval does that for you.
The whole experience is completely cheapened yet the ticket prices remain steady?

its a combination of several factors but the main one is the stadium related. this also happened around the same time popa left. and the recent poor performance of the team hasnt helped.

Stadium is the major problem we should be playing out of Penrith and anz for derbies. But some of our thicker headed supporters decided spotless was good enough 😤
