Here's one for Dman and Zef….. On the FOX commentary of this 3rd Test (I think it was day 2), Adam Gilchrist and Mark Waugh brought up a stat from the equivalent SCG game in the early 2000's whereby India batted first, scored 705 in first innings, declared after 187 overs (session 1 of day 3), Australia then scored about 474. India decided to NOT follow-on and batted for another 210 off runs before finally declaring and it ended up costing them a win as Australia saved the match losing only 6 wickets.

You're talking about a game here there's almost 1200 runs in the first inns as if it's an example of anything?

You know the first mistake, the big mistake, the ONLY mistake that matters of that game - scoring 700 f***in' runs. Why bother declaring at 700? You're already playing for the draw so you might as well try for the 1000.

I'll add Mark Waugh and yourself if it's your argument are absolutely right to be gob-smacked as to why India didn't enforce the follow-on. But that's only because having stupidly batting for 700 runs into the third day - what else could you be playing for?

It's double stupidity, but the original stupidity is the critical stupidity.

India would've been better declaring late day two at 550ish. Then you can still give Aus their 475, take the 75 run lead, India go out and get the 200 they got and be out of there to give themselves two sessions min (probably more like a day and a bit) at the Aussies and let them chase 275-300ish.

The bait's there, that Aussie team would've bit, India couldn't have put themselves in a better position for a day 5 result.

(Zef extend arm and drops mic)... Your spot on, he wants to say stats are flawed yet pulls that one out...

India's mentality has changed a heap since that time... They've gone from a side that was more concerned with ensuring they didn't lose to a side that wants to win...
One of the reasons being they believe they can actually take 20 wickets away from home...
Theres been a few times at the SCG I thought they were playing for 1000...
My memory is fading and I can't be stuffed checking, but I think at my first test India were like 3-600, with Gavaskar getting out for close to 200 bowled by Dutchy...

That series they were down 2-0 already with SCG last test... With their mentality back then playing for a draw makes perfect sense...

I'm not the first to say it, but this Indian team is like no other they've ever fielded based on one thing, the thing they've been generationally criticised for decades, the thing they've never brought to Aus before.

Professionalism. Ultra. No compromies. The standard, the benchmark.

You can see it in  everything they do and nowhere does it show more than in their fielding. Remember, traditionally, most cricket jokes and stand-up routines revolved around Indian fielding and catching. Now they are the best fielding team on the planet, they drop one now (like Pant did yesterday) and we're surprised.

They are fit, real fit. Prepared. and nailing the 1%.

They're not only the best team on the planet at present, they've got potential to be one of the great generational teams that everyone remembers like The Windies of the 80's and Aus of the 00's.

Fielding has been exceptional... Bob Simpson was the instigator of our time in the sun with his focus in fielding and the 1%...
We had a hard edge... India have it now... I blame part our general softness on a generation of snowflakes, and administrators reaction to negative press...India don't got snowflakes... The majority of em are too busy trying to eek out a living to spend time feigning outrage (to make their social media profile relevant) at every little thing except the result...

Facebook has become much worse as of today too. I don't use it myself but sometimes I view a page of a business or person to see what they have to say.
Usually the popup nag screen appears pleading with you to sign in. Click minimise & you can read enough to get by. But now that nag screen covers the whole screen & no option to minimise & impossible to read the page. But don't worry, they don't sell your private information to anyone, they swear by it. They just sell access to your private info to countless 3rd parties. I hate them.

@dman, If someone like Marki had a Facebook account, then got himself a Netflix account, the Netflix people, because they're one of many that pay off Facebook, can then access all the data Facebook has accumulated on him. Every click he's made on there, all his searches, every conversation, every private message, all his browser history, email accounts & whatever else Facebook pillages every time he signs in. It goes way beyond tailored ads.
Google isn't any better. If you install their browser, it pillages any other browser you may have, sends all your other browser history, bookmarks & whatever else straight to google for the database they have on you as well. Mobile phones are just as bad regardless of brand.

WTF Cricket Australia!!!... I'm only a casual BBL fan but do u think I can watch either if the two games in tonight???... While no huge fan of Crocket I'd watch every game when home... Final nails in Crockets coffin for mine... The original willy wonker is more entertaining than 50% of the games anyway and I guess ch7 realise that...
No ODIs, some BBL... Pathetic attempt to promote the game...
Has Sutherland left yet???... He should be re engages so he can be sacked again... Pathetic leaser who rode the coattails of the teams success...
Lol just as an add comes on for 'BBL league of heroes'... Where, when, who???

Credit where credit is due India are well prepared and have improved heaps.

IMO India have replaced the West Indies as the top team in world cricket.
The Clive Lloyd WI side is still the best team I have ever seen, they were scary which is all India is lacking.

But the West Indies fell by the wayside, I don't see that ever happening with India, I expect India to keep getting better and better until they get bored with winning or the younger generation develops another interest.

For Australia we did well to match India in the first 2 tests, but fell in a heap in Melbourne.

I still sense that we are struggling for unity, cohesion and purpose.

Everyone sticking the boot in probably isn't helping, but I agree that the way we are playing is frustrating it is hard for fans and ex-players to refrain from commenting.

Appart from selection, captaincy, coaching issues, we need most of all to build team spirit.

Prove the critics wrong with an ashes win should be the focus.

In England it is important that our top 4 can all handle the moving ball and our bowlers can use seam and swing.
It is odvious what we need to practice and practice, and keep practising.

CA has to arrange the schedule to give test players the right preparation. That might mean key players sitting out some short form tournaments.

I agree with Dman I have seen no evidence CA has a plan, without a plan we stand little chance.

I hate it most when some tosser does something idiotic  and the news quotes facebook as if 1)the person they are quotng has something newsworthy to say or 2) anybody gives a toss

Best thing people can do is just get their own webpage & avoid FB. That way all material remains your own. You don't have crims owning what you say or do. There's nobody else editing or deleting or selling you out. No psychological experiments done on you & no tailored ads. You can have your own contact forms, chat rooms & email.
A lot of people use the excuse that their family is on FB, but you can just email them, phone them or visit them. The world doesn't even need FB, it's such a con.
It's amazing so many journo's & presenters promote it all the time. You'd think they would've found out it's so crooked by now. Don't they read the papers or watch the news...

The thing is, the debate rages whether music sounds better on an lp or digitally recorded. To me it all comes down to personal choice. I find that mp3's and CD's are a much harsher sound (although much cleaner and crisper) than analogue recordings. My ears are not designed for digital sound therefore lp's do me quite nicely. Plus the artwork on an lp gatefold is a treat in itself.

Trump watch.

Some interesting things that the right people are starting to ask some serious questions about.

Not long after he took office, he asked his his intel chiefs for info on Poland's plans for Belarus -  like Poland invading Belarus. Everyone was WTF?!?!, never heard of that one. And in fact it's never been mentioned by anyone else in the world (especially U.S Intelligence) apart from Putin. Who surprise surprise wants Belarus to move closer to Russia, hence the scare about Poland.

There's an attempted coup in Montenegro. later proved to be backed by Russia who don't want Montenegro to join NATO, which they subsequently did. Later on Hannity Trump says that Montenegro is a very dangerous country that could start WWIII through aggression in the Baltics, again stuff that no U.S Intelligence service has ever briefed him on nor believes. And if you remember the famous video of the bloke Trump manhandles out of the way so he can shoulder past at a NATO summit - that was the President of Montenegro.

And now only a week or so ago, Trump parroting Russia propaganda on the cause of the Afghanistan war. Word for word down to "terrorists" and all the rest. Again stuff no U.S Intelligence service has briefed him on nor believes - in fact they declare it outright propaganda.

So the serious question some serious people are starting to ask - Just who is briefing Trump?

Putin's dog.
