BN as you are aware once you post something on the internet, whether it be on FB, twitter, or even your own page it leaves a permanent digital footprint that can never be erased. I do agree with you though that on your own webpage the netnazis can't spy on you and target you with their bs. There is one thing that concerns me and that is my wife has one of those "hey google" things, that she streams music with. I don't like them one bit and call me paranoid but I think they are capable of listening and recording every sound that occurs within a certain radius of the contraption.... Big Brother syndrome.

And btw, scheduled in Russia parliament in the next month or so - and official resolution defending the invasion of Afghanistan. SURPRISE! Previously it's been the official position of The Russian Gov (post USSR) that Afghanistan was a "tragic mistake".

So they change their story, and Trump is parroting it before they even make it official.

Is there anyone out there who still doesn't see it?

That's true. But the difference is consent to. Whether it's here or twitter or wherever. The poor folks using FB think they're sending a private message to their clacker adviser or someone & next thing Ronald McDonald starts selling a gravy container in the exact shape of said clacker. OK, parden me, could've thought up a better example...

I'm not sure what google thing you're mentioning there, but being google says it all, you're right to be paranoid. It's the same with phones, your microphone & cameras can be used without your consent. Same with PC webcams etc. Most TV's have camera's & voice recognition nowadays & it's no surprise they're full of apps for you to connect to the internet...

Just a music question for you, the other night I found an old album on Youtube. Someone had played their vinyl album, recorded it to computer & then uploaded it.
Was I listening to vinyl or a digital file? Both?

He was referring to Google Home.

Here's one to get you even more worried....
There was a tech guy on the Today show the other day, and he mentioned how Alexa (another similar voice AI device) can tell the status of your relationship with your wife as it listens in on conversations......

Cool stuff aye?

It would be digital Rod. The only way to listen to pure analogue sound is listening to a record, tape or live. Everything that you see and hear via the internet has been converted to digital.

I've been using FB a hell of a lot lately, last 6 months or so. I'm moving into a house next year and getting a dog, been waiting way too long to get a dog again. So I've been communicating with breeders almost every second day.. And I really HAVE to use FB because for some weird reason breeders don't seem to answer emails or phone calls, but hit them on FB and they're right back to you.

And I haven't had one advertisement for dog foods or dog related products pop up on my computer.

I really think you're over-stating the issue BN. I got no doubt they do everything you say they do I'm just not so sure it's for any sinister reasons that you seem to have convinced yourself of. So they'll try and sell you products, give your name to someone else trying to sell you products...

And.......?

Is it compulsary to buy them?

If you want to close yourself off from FB, Twitter and all the rest of them that's fine and that's your choice. Just be aware your severely limiting the ways YOU can do business too. I bought a portable AC about a month ago, 20% cheaper than it's selling at Harvey Norman - found it on FB.

I'll take the private messages to my clacker adviser. All's I have to do is delete them.

That's what I thought. A record player relies on the natural vibrations & whatnot. Once it's been converted to millions of 0's & 1's something just wouldn't be right & something missing. Then there's the compression which alters it further. It had the crackles & things of vinyl but that narrow sound of a tiny digital file.

There'll be an RSPCA ad next week featuring a character called Zef, hehe.

I know what you mean, but it'd really be a last resort for me to have anything to do with FB.
I've used it a little in recent times for updates on circuit boards & whatever, but now from this week they're forcing me to actually log in to do that. Just to read an update that a schematic has been changed or something, so now they want to record that I do that & sell the knowledge that I did that. I just don't like it. Logging in to actually post something, that is understandable, but just to view, it's wrong.

BN you're correct, as clean as the sound is, digital files have an extremely narrow stereo separation. That's why I prefer listening to lps, a larger sonic footprint, greater frequency range and greater channel separation. My only whinge is clicks, pops and crackle therefore I keep my records as clean and static free as possible.

It was a good old album, but I was constantly needing to tinker with the EQ & trying different presets all the way. Not as simple as setting the bass/treble knobs.
Youtube has plenty of great old albums, many rare & impossible to buy. It's just what you have to put up with to hear them.
The trouble is most have the life compressed out of them to shrink the files & not many uploaders try to keep them as clear as possible.

Do it for the BDP Kohli...
Only because the weather has been cooler, the Indian bowlers had a break + didn't have to work too hard, the Aus batsmen couldn't get a strong total, plus it could finish the series, put the BDP at ease & out-mock all mocks.

Cloudy with 50% chance of rain for the final day. It could be reduced overs again, even for light if it doesn't rain. If it finishes a draw, I'm putting my hand up 2nd to say technical loss...
Hazlewood is no batsman but it's the 2nd time this series he has hung on to get a few valuable runs for the last wicket partnership. With the match shortened by weather, might just be enough to stop an outright win. Series is lost, but there's still something left for them to try for & it makes the final day more interesting than it could've been.

Zef specifically said you do the opposite of what the opposition wants you to do. Handscombe is quoted as saying that NO team wants to follow on.
Which is my point exactly....if it's there and available you need a bloody good reason NOT to enforce it. ....and there arent many good reasons. Just superficial ones. And FOFO. That's all.

Yeah but technically what he meant was you don't want to put yourself in that position where its possible.
The rest of the article makes it clear they are looking forward to redeeming themselves tomorrow which only the follow on would allow... So, they actually do want bat.
If we hadn't lost time to actual rain (as opposed to the potential if it) India would've batted again.
Simple fact of the matter is ur 0-3 when it cones to making the appropriate decision re follow-ons in the last two summers..

Marki........ gob-smacked. I'm suuuuuuuuuuuure you're trolling, but I'll bite. No team wants to follow-on, yes I'd give you that - nobody goes into a Test Match hoping they get a chance to follow-on.

Just like nobody wants to fall off a bike, or fall off a horse. But then having done it what's the first thing you then want to do? At least if you got any heart in you whatsoever.

What would YOU want to do, honestly. Having failed would you jump at the chance of redemption or would you rather avoid it as long as you can?

Honestly, really.
