The whole thing is a train wreck and still not finished. We need such a high profile and experienced coach to save this.

@Jumo8
I think the best thing to do is not to over react. The damage has been done, the train is already wrecked and although we all hoped for a bounce with DD the fact it didn’t happen is no crisis
We need a coach that has a clear idea on how to get players playing, someone who can actually coach and not merely commentate on what happened, and crucially someone who can attract good players.

I still prefer to see a Davies team over one from JA. It’s still a nightmare however, reflected by the small crowds.

Yeah DD has done better but clearly that squad is not right so there’s only so much he can do. After years of hearing JAs excuse (everything from the training pitch is “too hard” to the VAR) they basically lack any level of belief and confidence.

With the season a no go, surely the only benefit from these games is to assess what ability any players have for the future coach. It stands to reason that all players should be given an opportunity to show their wares under these circumstances. Yes, some are more likely than others, but what would the benefit be of excluding any. Especially as we are so low on numbers. Just throwing 6 or 7 Youth League players on the pitch doesn't achieve anything and probably is detrimental to the club and their careers.

I don’t get why TK is in the squad and Caletti isn’t?

Yes Waz that's what I mean. A coach who is able to attract players BECAUSE he has a high profile, experience and connected.
A tough call but hopefully that's why it's taking a while because Roar cannot afford to screw it up again.
And if we are fortunate to get a coach with that history, chances are he will get huge respect, support and be able to put it together
Fingers crossed.

Considering our midfield is a big problem,it would be nice to see what youth can play there.Even if its one at a time.Surely one of them is faster than TK and one of them can make a tackle more than McKay and Caletti? I get the impression DD is intimidated into playing senior players.

Maybe its more to do with being around the senior players for too long, maybe too friendly with them, like one of the boys. A new coach with no history is good thing in that regard, no bonds, no familiarity, can't hide and only your football skills on display for him to make a decision to keep or dump.

Maybe DD is adding some more youth elsewhere and thought the experienced head of TK was needed to balance that out. It gains youth players nothing to get flogged enthusiastically (only so many times we can 'learn' from a flogging). Having a wise head may give them the guidance on field that they need to develop while they have an old head available. Please not Bowles and Pepper again. Please.

....bit of a thought outside the square......what if the new coach has been selected but can't be named yet for some reason (at another club?) ....and he is asking DD to play different players so he can get a feel for what they are like (could be a bit unethical I guess but who knows how these things play out in reality) ?

I am worried if the new coach wants to see TK play :( It is a nice thought that things are happening for a reason, but I doubt there is as much consideration to the goings on. My thought is DD is giving game time to players who may find this their last season and letting them play out their contracts/careers - rather than crushing them as an interim coach by dropping them. Who knows, they may get a run with the new coach (arrrggghhh!!!) and if DD is still around in an assistant role that would be awkward.

Lol What can you really take away, about one player from watching the whole team play rubbish? I doubt any coach watching the Roar now would be able to conclude much more than the entire team is hopeless and maybe its the players are all rubbish or maybe its the coach or maybe its the squad or maybe its a bit of everything.

@BRFC_92 Pepper and Bowles to both play, with TK in front. Bowles stupid yellow in first 20 minutes, Pepper to do a trademark brainsnap (yellow or red), Central Coast to keep their emerging attack developing and our defence unable to handle it. Score 3-1 (but we were lucky to jag the 1 as their keeper slipped on the follow up to a brilliantly blocked shot). Daggers to be pushed by Pepper into the path of the ball deflecting off his left knee into goal. If I plan for a bad outcome I am more likely to be satisfied with anything better.

@Crimson If someone was interested in a defender playing with their backs to the wall in a disorganised rabble, they can learn a lot. If they are interested in a forward who can take a losing game by the scruff of the neck and create genuine scoring opportunities under pressure they can learn a lot. For our team, neither really fits those scenarios, so I would agree it would be pointless.

Tongyik needs some more direction, but he was a tall rock in our defence tonight - both aerial and on the ground. Hard to close mark someone like Simon who attempts to be fouled all the time, and who will tug, nudge or trip you out of position every chance - but I think the quality Tongyik showed to shut him out contributed to the frustration, petulance and aggression Simon then passed on so discreetly to the ref. We miss Bautheac next week for too many yellows...? That will hurt in our table climbing mission next game against Wanderers. Eric was a massive part of tonight. Lopez and Mikkelsen lifted - or were just given the time or space that better sides don't allow. TK off the bench was not as good as TK on the bench. Pepper seemed to be the nearest player for the two CCM goals that did not stem from TK - whether that made it his fault or someone else should have been there I really don't have the technical nous to say - but he looked to be the one who could have made a difference both times. Seems a consistent pattern there week after week. Young did an awesome job again and still can't kick the ball back into play :)

Tongjik was awesome. You gotta credit the guy, second game and has made a difference, just owned Simon for 90 minutes. I know CCM ordinary but Simon is a handful regardless.
Not surprised tho as he showed it in the few games with City a year or two ago.
Great job son.
