LMAO. Outrated by the AFLX we shouldn't be surprised by that, AFL fans just tuning in out of curiosity, I'm guessing not too many sat through it all, I flicked at HT of Mariners v Roar, it was pretty ordinary

500k+ total tv viewers, and 24,000 at the stadium, proof the afl can put together garbage and people will still watch and attend. Victory v City will get a similar attendance but with no tv audience.

No surprises there. AFL could put on Cockroach racing and still get 400k.

In this day and age the concept of an "ÄFL fan" doesnt exist. Maybe once upon a time when people only followed one code and there were only 3 stations controlling what you could see. But today people follow multiple sports and even multiple football codes So why did more sports fans opt to watch the AFLX instead of the A League or even the womens one dayer (57k) I started watching the AFLX out of curiosity and turned it over after 3 minutes. It was the most embarrassing sport I have ever witnessed and it should be classified as a national disaster. Take everything cringeworthy from every sport and roll it into a single event and you get the AFLX. And these gimmicks are the push from Australian sports administrators including those from our own governing body But sports fans with Foxsports still preferred to watch it to the A League

NPL Victoria YouTube livestream, Avondale FC vs Port Melbourne, 191 views.
Disgraceful.
Is the reason why the viewership is so low because people are not interested in this closed league full of plastic teams?
If this League was opened up to promotion and relegation would it have outrated the AFLX that was on commercial free to air tv last night?
If you believe some on here, the answer is yes to both questions.

silly thing to say, the winter season is under way now, a lot of junior teams are training today, many npl games were on, the football community is scattered around, 200 viewers is imo pretty good for a Saturday arvo. The reach last night was a few thousand.

This may sound nuts at first But I'd seriously look at moving the football season back to winter head on with AFL and NRL
In winter there are only 2 direct competitors and with clever marketing football should be able to differentiate itself clearly to have a market, plus on will be aligned with the whole pyramid underneath it including juniors whilst they are engaged with the sport, whereas on summer they switch to other Sports.
Summer is now over saturated with cricket, tennis, basketball, and all the other gimmicks during this period
I'd seriously look at it

+xThis may sound nuts at first But I'd seriously look at moving the football season back to winter head on with AFL and NRL There's no such thing as clean air, and there is enough money going around to at least make our game viable Winter vs Summer should only be about stadia availability and season logistics I prefer a last week August start so we dont need to stop our season for the world cup (normally) or Olympics

Moving to winter would be disastrous, and it’s not so much from competition from afl/nrl, it’s actual competition from within our game, competing with the npl, state leagues, juniors etc would be disastrous, at the end of the day last nights derby had about as much clean air as you could possibly get.
If you think the metrics are bad now sure move it, and enjoy the fact that no A league game will ever rate in the top 20 programming ever again.

Moving to winter is a waste of time. Hiding from other sports is a waste of time. What we need to do is make Football better to watch and make fans more engaged with teams. We need to get smarter with scheduling .
We all called that the HAL was as boring as batshit ,when teams played each other three plus times ,three years ago. What is happening now is the result of FFA doing nothing but watching the game die and at the same time actively killing it through its war on Football.(players,fans,owners,media..you name it)
Thats why ,i strongly believe at some time soon we will need a complete overhaul and reboot.
We should start the season earlier.
Starting in August in line with the European season would make sense ,because its a defined time known by football fans.
Half the fans of other sports are disengaged with their losing teams.
It's cooler ,so Football is better and fans are at home watching tv.
Finals for other codes are limited to a few places.Schedule games in other places if necessary..
August start means ,we get a good run of around 18 games.Well into the guts of the season. We can finish finals in March, meaning February has more interest as teams fight for finals births.
ACL extends interest from March to April and beyond.
January we can have our festival of football with games thick and fast.
We can get our 30 games, with less overlap at the end ,when other sports are starting and overlap at the beginning when other sports are losing games because of finals.
We should reboot.... by having a shorter season when we go to 12 teams ,so we finish in March and then bring in another two teams and start in August with 14 teams. 28 games plus finals finishing in March.

Yeah winter would be a disaster for me. I’d cancel my roar memberships and probably only get to 5-6 games a year .
Bad enough last night, we had a pre-season friendly kicking off at 6 so missed both games.
We need an 8 month season starting in September and finishing in April imo.

I've always wondered why everyone wants to align with Europe. Why not align with Asia?

I dont see how the timing of other leagues can be a problem to playing in winter. No other professional sport has a problem with playing at the same time as the lower leagues

Aligning with Asia, means playing through the winter. That's not viable.

Hold the FFA cup during the winter break. will probably never happen, but I think there is some merit to it.

Owners must urgently address A-League's TV slump: Wanderers chairBy Vince RugariFebruary 25, 2019 — 7.00pm Western Sydney Wanderers chairman Paul Lederer admits club owners face an "urgent" task in halting an alarming decline in television ratings and bringing excitement back to the A-League as they seek to take control of the ailing competition. Crowds have held steady across the board this season, but ratings figures on Fox Sports continue to nosedive and the pay TV operator's appetite for domestic football appears to be waning. Fox's attempt to withhold a $5 million increase to the A-League's broadcast deal by arguing incoming expansion team Western United are not based in Melbourne – as well as their opposition to a longer 30-round season – suggest the competition is skating on thin ice. There have also been fears that Fox could use the A-League's pending split from Football Federation Australia as a trigger to renegotiate – or, in what would be a doomsday scenario for the sport, tear up – the $58 million-per-year agreement which effectively covers the salary cap and expires in 2023.

That’s an interesting point. The FFA know they are gonna lose the HAL and probably don’t care what happens to it. This is why it’s being driven to the ground

Thinking out aloud, Fox would have made the deal with the FFA, so I guess the question becomes whether the new A-League body wants its own deal directly with Fox, or whether they just have an agreement with the FFA to funnel the TV money directly to the A-League.

FFA cup. ACL). that probably means the TV rights deal would have to remain with the FFA for the life of the contract if they wanna avoid breaking any clauses.
