That trialist is apparently flying in today. No name yet but should be running around at Tuesday’s training ...

Funny enough crimson I did wonder whether it would be him, I hope not - we’ve got at least one youth player as good if not better plus Charlie ... we need to be looking at players that offer something different

Babalj > Charlie skill wise.
Charlie > Babalj fitness wise.

Well,Babalj offers something different up front. He can hold the ball up and he is tall. But reminds me of a poor mans Juric.Never known for playing full games.

Yeah, can’t see him staying beyond the end of this season but no harm in him training and getting some game time alongside DWS.

Height is certainly something that has been missing from our team for a long time. Perhaps with Babalj and Tongyik playing, we could actually pose a threat from set pieces.

Not really awe inspiring 35 senior games in the last 7 years. Im pretty sure injury (and chufing off OS too early) ruined his career. However, he is only 27. I remember him when he made his debut fro Heart and thinking he has a lot of potential. big, strong and makes good runs. hopefully he can be a david carney. have shit all senior games but come back to the a-league and dominate.
hope he does well.

Lets look at the facts, he hasn't scored more than 1 goal in a season in 7 years. We all think back to when he was young and had 1 maybe 2 decent seasons for Melbourne heart, since then his career has been an absolute train wreck. He couldn't crack it in the Indian league. No thanks

Our season is done, let’s face it. If he’s okay to play for 5-7 games and actually contributes, then we have first dibs next season. If not, new coach comes in and he’s done.

@ Mrmcjpants
First off he’s only on trial, in a squad that’s losing players weekly to injury that in itself is not a bad thing.
Like you I think he’s moved around too much resulting in inconsistency in everything - coaching, playing style, medical etc. he’s not unusual in that (DWH will go the same way if he has a good season next year).
That doesn’t mean he lacks talent though.
Ange has built a coaching career bringing the best out of players at a crossroads in their careers. Whether Babalj can be turned in to anything useful remains to be seen, and whether Roars coaching staff can do it also remains to be seen (but Mikklesens form lately has to be a promising sign)
Worse case this means a vote of no confidence in D’Agastino who will likely be the biggest loser in all this

Babalj?? This is disappointing.
Ok for second striker, but we got 2 of them already, why the $&@k do we need a 3rd.
Give us someone with some pedigree at least.
If he aint cracked it by 27, he ain't gonna. That's a fact.
Rather stay with DWH, at least he gives it 100% and has knocked some in, and assists.
Waste of money and time, hope it's bullshit.
Prove me wrong ? ?

Can daggers, nothing showing there, has to go. but you're right about Mikks.
These last couple outings have shown something of him that we hoped for at the start.
Was it the climate change for him or what, I'd love to know.
Probably combination of many things. Climate, new country, fitness, family, and then throw in the 2 Aloisis. It all makes sense maybe.
We wish the guy the best for the rest anyway. And if he repeats those performances I reckon I'd keep him.

@waz yeah it's not the end of the world but I do think the ship is sailed and I'd rather we give our youth a vote of confidence over this bloke

All for giving youth a chance and investing in the club's future, but some youth (D'Agostino in particular) have been given a good shot at it and come up short. There is nothing wrong with a blended squad of young and old (as opposed to some of Alois's squads of older and geriatric).

Agreed aok
And competition for places doesn’t hurt either. If the trial of Babalj shakes Charlie, DWH and definitely Daggers up a bit, that can’t be a bad thing.

It would have been a tough time for Tobi at the start of the season. a new country and a new baby right at the beginning of the season. thats got to be tough, no wonder he did not perform (apart from a few silky touches in the CCM game). no doubt that has all settled a bit now and he can concentrate on playing. he has looked good in the last couple of weeks. so hopefully he can really kick on. i would be ok with keeping him

If WSW released him??
Fine if we didn't have Loko and Daggs, by why add to that level of players. Pointless.

I don’t think Scott is on the agenda. In forwards we have DWH (who has to be the priority game time wise), D’Aggers, Charlie and now Babalj (who is a trialist, they don’t normalky get paid and I’m not sure if they’re even allowed to play in the HAL?)

When I saw reports of match fixing in football, I scoured the pages looking for the Roar's involvement. Unfortunately the way the team has played and the monumental collapses we've witnessed this year can only be blamed on poor coaching and poor play. :Whistling:

Speaking of Babalj, if you can keep him fit and get his attitude right, then he could hit the heights he reached a few years ago.

The problem for Babalj has always been his size.Carrying that bulk around must be difficult.Unless he is a superb athelete, which i havent seen. You cant expect him to run all day and he will always be injury prone if he extends himself. Sad really, because he does have skills. Maybe he should move to defence?
