I think it would be violent conduct but the ref shouldn’t enforce it if it’s self defence. Retaliation is different though.

He'd be no better than the thug if he retaliated and would deserve a sending off at least. He did exactly the right thing. He showed class.

A well landed hit to the head can kill you. He has every right to retaliate in a legal sense, especially when the stewards are incapable of preventing fans from doing this sort of thing.

He could defend himself, but retaliating would rightly be frowned upon. Let the stewards and the cops deal with it. The moron will never see the inside of a football stadium again. Plus he got imprisoned for 3 months. The justice has been done in the end.

Lets just hope City didn't go to the short term LARS route for his ACL get him back quickly but putting his long term health at risk!

Yeah that is a worry. However, I'm not sure just how much difference there is in speed of recovery between allograft and autograft methods of ACL reconstruction.

He is on course with the normal rehab times for all 3 different methods I am pretty sure.

The speed at which the individual/patient returns to normal motion and activities, really is defined by individuals reaction to treatment, training regime and personal factors such as.

One mentioned already: age would be a huge factor, he is at peak age for muscle regeneration. (declines after 40 yo)

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and stem cells are the newest techniques that are now commonly being used in professional athletes.
If you read: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5000850/

This would be the factor determining his fast tracking back to playing again with regards to all methods of ACL recon. However, as you've said etc, would not be rushing it out there.

That LARS route (articifial tendon) is the worse of the 3 techniques by far as grafting success rate higher with individuals own tendon as the donor. Strength of this ACL technique when fully recovered has proven to be weaker with allograft. Really would be dependant on the PRP and stem cell factors. Maybe they've improved this way beyond we previously thought, but yeah LARS is the shit option strength wise proven beyond a doubt in the research and reinjury higher also. Cringe he hasn't gone this route

Allograft and LARS reconstructions have a shorter rehab time than hamstring or patellar tendon ACL reconstructions.
http://www.hipandkneesurgery.com.au/acl-reconstruction-with-allografts-and-lars-ligaments.html

This article states the above, but I really don't think there is much difference in rehab time. Even the autograft methods can be quite quick.

This shocking incident happened in the Villa game. The bloke who did it is a fucking coward, ran up behind him and hit him in the back of the head. The dickhead then started to celebrate and blow kisses to the crowd when being taken off the field.

https://mobile.twitter.com/SoccerAM?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%

Serious question:  If Grealish was to belt the fan back, would he get a red or would the ref let him off because he was attacked?

Yes. It is a send off offence under LOTG to hit anyone be it the opposition, your own teammates or a spectator.
