I wouldn’t make mass changes as it will be detrimental. I think a few subtle changes may do the trick.

1.       Hoppa
2.       Smith ( R )
3.       Holland ( R )
4.       CHN ( L )
5.       Crichton ( L )
6.       Foran
7.       Lewis
8.       Tolman
9.       JMK
10.   Napa
11.   Jackson ( R )
12.   Martin ( L )
13.   Elliott
14.   Cogger
15.   Fualalo
16.   Ogden
17.   RFM

Close to what I would go with.

I might start Fualalo and move Tolman to the bench. (But we can try that some other time.)

I watched the first half of reserve grade, the 9, Cogger, Martin and Smith all good, Ogden was our best player.

Cogger throws a great pass to put a player into a gap, or give a player time, bring him on and move Lewis to hooker when JMK goes off IMO.

Smith fairly good and a bit unlucky, but I can see why you went with Martin,....

I don't think we have the quality in reserve grade to go with mass changes.

We have 8 off contract this year and I would only re-sign 3.  That leaves 5 spots they can improve for 2020 with better talent who are actually 1st grade standard.

If this is the list:-

OFF CONTRACT 2019
Fa'amanu Brown, Danny Fualalo, Morgan Harper, Tui Katoa, Michael Lichaa, Rhyse Martin, John Olive, Francis Tualau

I would keep:- Danny Fualalo, Morgan Harper, Tui Katoa,  Rhyse Martin

Very happy to see most of the others go....

I would have said the same thing last year, so far Danny seems better this year, he made 100 metres in both games, and looked reasonable in defence to me. We need forwards who can make yards.

I admit he is running better but still misses tackles, can't tackle hard and gives stupid penalties away. Players like him are a dime a dozen. Come to think of it we have a lot of dimes.

So why was Holland switched, perhaps Montoya can't play right?

Regardless, Holland/Smith worked well on the right last year, this is the team change I don't understand

Yes, I think when defence seems to be your biggest issue, you need to revert back to what worked out best for you previously.
That means Holland to right, Montoya to left and Martin at starting 12 with RFM on bench.

I could have sworn Montoya played left centre a couple of time last year before he got injured. No?

We either have to stop teams scoring more than 18 points, or score more than 24 ourselves.

Jackson is playing crap on the left also.  You can't change a side around to fit in a player that shouldn't be in 1st grade in the first place. This decision worries me about Pay.

You are right about Jackson. He has been rather poor in both games, but close to our worst in game 1.
Not sure what it is, but he is a shadow of his former self in attack and defence

The Bulldogs for approximately the past 2-3yrs now have really struggled when teams have the momentum to swing it back our way.... we don’t cope at allSomething comes over the entire team

Its our negative tactics Villi.
We don't play to beat the opposition, we play to allow the opposition to lose to us.

When you have the above mentality and gameplan, little things like the ref rules, weather, luck and injuries all have an immediate effect on your performance and end result.

What we need, is a gameplan that allows us to moderate the style to suit the gameday conditions. This is what the top teams can do. If its raining, they can switch from expansive to tight one out stuff, but when it dries up, they can start expansive play again. If they cop fatigue or injuries they can kick for touch and buy themselves time to re-adjust their positions and energy levels. If they are losing the territorial ground, they can kick early and send the ball into opposition territory.

We seem to still be very much 1 dimensional. We have a gameplan, but if it fails, that's it. We don't seem to have a plan B.

Just switching talk to AFL and the pundits had Hawthorn slipping this year while they expected Adelaide to be fancied as premiership contender.

Hawks comprehensively beat them in their own backyard on Sat night. Ran away with it comfortably.

I don't think that is the problem, our attack is much better, our defence is much worse.

Funnily enough both of our haves are way better defenders that most of the halves we have had recently.

Both of our halves are better in attack and our kicking game is better than it has been for most of the DesBall era. for once that isn't the problem.

But there are major issues in just about every other aspect of the team you like to mention, if the team was a car it is a rusty old out of rego banger we brought from a dubious character in a shady area on a dark night, we are just hoping and paying it starts so we can get out of there.
(not a personal experience .. well not this bit ... "from a dubious character in a shady area on a dark night")

As we are working on defence we should be doing 75% defence and 25% attack, attack is better but still needs polish.

We need an edge backrower who can run off Lewis...

Not sure about that.
You are right in that we need to focus on defence  but we have leaked lots of points from broken down attack.

We still look too eager and programmed to get the ball out wide, that we are an intercept waiting to happen. I'd I were defending against us, I'd probably score a hatrick in just intercepts.

Until we introduce some unpredictability in our attack, I wont be happy. This is why I always felt Josh Reynolds was such a key for us. He was one of very few (Kasisno the other one) that you couldn't predict. His over enthusiasm also got the team going after a big play. Nowadays we have no one. Maybe Lewis, but he is on his own and not at the JR level.

The rest of the team is completely predictable along with some real notorious ones in Tolman and Lichaa.

Look at Souths, Storm, Roosters  even Cronulla. In fact look at every other team and think about how predictable or unpredictable their players are or can be.

....you have now found your wooden spooners...

Martin will return on an edge in place of Raymond Faitala-Mariner who has been dropped to the reserves.

Nick Meaney will make his Bulldogs debut at fullback with Will Hopoate shifting to centre at the expense of Marcelo Montoya who has also been dropped.

Winger Jayden Okunbor is in line to make his NRL debut. He is expected to replace new recruit Christian Crichton on the left edge.

Forward Ofahiki Ogden will be promoted into the top 17 from Canterbury Cup and replace Danny Fualalo on the bench.

Jeremy Marshall-King will retain his starting spot at hooker ahead of Michael Lichaa, who will again start on the bench.

And where will Suaso Sue be in all this?

He looks small, underweight & just not the type of forward the Dogs tend to have...

He has been poor, especially yesterday.

Ogden is the only player that deserves promotion..... Meaney was poor yesterday, Jayden not much better.... but who cares, let’s try something different after leaking 80 odd points

Let’s be serious here about the Top 30..... how is Zac Saddler even part of it?

Don’t know the kid, never seen him play, but could be a year or two away from 1st grade..... put a player like that as a development player. Add to that John Olive who will never see 1st grade at Belmore

That free’s up 2 spots with still some $$$ left to spend from dog face Klemmer leaving to go after a couple of outside backs that are on the cusp of first grade elsewhere but wanting a chance to shine..... Come to Belmore & show your worth for a longer & bigger $$ deal.

Again just a suggestion as our Top 30 is in need of change now.

If true it is proving that Pay is concerned and losing patience fast.

That many changes is rather drastic, although bringing in Martin and Ogden seems a no brainer. They played the best part of half year last year and would stiffen up the defence.

They might be better off playing Reimis at centre and Meany on wing. That's usually the better way to bring in a young back.

Anyway, it should send a wake up call to all the players that the axe is swinging...
