+x+xAFL fox ratings for their opening game down 4.3%. just opening game everything else was pretty solid You're right, I was just checking out the sports industry site: "At the end of Round 1 of the 2019 AFL season, match ratings on Foxtel were up 8% on round 1 2018, to a total of 1.741m at an average of 193k." "For the AFL, FTA ratings in Sydney are up 38% on R1 last year, up 4% in Melbourne, and up 25% in Brisbane. Perth is down 3%."

Do we have any viability on viewers on Kayo? I feel like the younger savvy sports fan will be almost exclusively on Kayo which may be contributing to lower TV audiences.

Yep, I concede it was a top of the table clash - I guess in the past Perth haven't really been a top side (soz Glory fans) and they're the only ones who'll ever play in that 10pm slot. Just an interesting note is all.

This comp has turned to absolute rubbish. A major revamp is well overdue, otherwise fold the entire thing!

+x+xYeah it's in earlier the thread. We debunked that theory. we guestimated it to be about 25% I can't be bothered going back that far, but I think we surmised that the NRL had about an extra 30% people streaming on top of their TV numbers. There's no reason to think that A-league demographics would be any different (I'd even argue that we'd have a younger and therefore more tech-savvy audience), so at the very least it's safe to assume we're averaging 45k per Foxtel match if the 35k figure is true. Is it bad? Yeah. Is it as apocalyptic as some are saying? Nah. A 10% reduction from last year sucks but we can come back from it, we've done it before.

All this talk about pro/rel, independent league and a return of the NSL clubs clearly seems to be having a positive effect on the game. Clearly it is going to save the league.

You can just hear the conversation at ffa hq. "Yeah we got 25k to the big blue last night" "Great news the fixture deserved such a crowd for this match." "No i meant thats the viewers we got" "Oh..."

+xAnd another slap in the face to the plasticky HAL band-wagoners So whats your answer... if the A-League falls over as some seem to cheering for ... then what follows ... like the following year broadcasters will be knocking down doors and fighting each other for Football... crowds will surge.... rating and stream numbers will explode... Those death riding the A-League who seem to take pleasure in every negative thing that happens, very often cheering the latest metric, pointing & waving the finger saying I told you so... Consider if the A-League fails what will take its place and who will pay for it.... In truth we need to make the A-League work... there may be a lot wrong with it ... it may need to change ... but maybe its worth sometimes reflecting on what we have rather than the things we don't have ... Adrian Arciuli, from SBS, wrote IMO a brilliant article on lets get together and develop a plan and work towards making it happen… its worth reading and me thinks this is how we should start to frame future debates. https://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/the-bold-plan-to-transform-australian-football-by-2029
