+xThe only time I see a team disadvantaged in extra time is if all your halves and regular field goal kickers have been ruled out by HIA and cant take the field. Your only hope then is to score from a try, penalty or hold on for a draw. Unless of course an unknown hero steps up to the mark... A disadvantage could also happen if a teams best 4 defenders are off the field, replaced by players with 10 greasy thumbs for hands that can't tackle or catch the ball. The same thing would be an advantage if it happened to the opposition team the next time there's a golden point match. It might be an improvement if they allow an extra time match to be won by a field goal, but not stop the extra time clock as soon as one is kicked. It can work out unfair if only the team that receives the kick-off gets possession because they only have to get near the half way line to have a kick, as it can all be over in 1 minute. At least with a 2nd half (& they're only 5 mins each) the other team gets the chance to level the score from their kick-off if nothing else. It might put more emphasis on scoring a try, defending well, controlling possession for several sets etc rather than just a field goal which comes down to luck.

+x+xI agree it's not perfect. What I don't get is that both teams had 80 minutes to get the required points and came up short. Why should they get special treatment. I also don't like the duration of a game relating to a first score rather than a time. Their idea is that being a draw earns those 2 teams one last throw of the dice to get a win, but it can still finish a draw after extra time. Maybe it's supposed to be exciting for spectators or whatever. You could also argue that a close winning result after the regular 80mins could deserve extra time as well, especially if a 50/50 ref call determined that scoreline, but there's nothing we can do about it but add it to the list of frustrations & flaws. There's no shortage of those with the comp in its current state. This is exactly what it was about... I find field goal shoot outs awful to watch... Golden try, or play the full five each way...

If no one gets a try, they walk away with a point each. No, you can't have some games worth three points and some games worth two... It gotta be 4 a win, 0 a loss, 3 a GP win, 1 a GP loss, or stays as is...

Like most 'innovations' the NRLol implement or simply steal, they are never driven by what the fans want, they are driven by what the all powerful media $ wants...

However if we take how unsophisticated and reactionary NRLol leaders are, its more likely to end up with an online poll as to who gets what points by 2025...

Loving the Storms flow with the continual twisting, wrestling, being offside, and just being damned unlucky getting caught up in tackle....

It might be the conditions, but both teams tonight looked disorganised in attack some of the dropped ball was just general confusion. Poor Cowboy players really tried hard, but were a shambles in attack some of the time. Funny thing is that we look like one of the better organised more skillful sides, even playing with a young spine. Des must have got the gig as off season attacking coach everywhere.

Given our modest starting point I still think we can have a satisfying season. The expectations are not great but we have something to build on. With a lot of inexperienced players what we can't expect is consistency. Enjoy the ride and don't get too hung up on the occasional poor performance. A good year to sort the sheep from the goats.

Paul Green on fox sports news going off in the press conference over the injury It's a difficult situation. This was obviously a case where the game should have stopped. The problem is that trainers have often called for the game to be stopped for tactical reasons with little or no injury to the player. I don't know how you overcome it. Maybe if a game is stopped on a trainer's call the player should go off and be cleared by the doctor before returning.

Vossy and Anasta on FOX coverage were spot on.... it was clearly obvious and you didnt need to wait for a trainer's assessment. If 2 players go into a tackle and both drop away from it that fast, you can be sure as hell they have been injured and its sufficiently to hold up play. Its logic. Another thing logical is that the video ref should have authority to send a message to on field refs. The game went on for about 3 more tackles to the disbelief of all. The final nail in the coffin was that Cowboys had to cop a penalty for the game to stop. The Let it Flow edict went way too far on this ocassion. The NRL has to answer why player welfare was put at risk due to their inaction. Also, why does it seem that whenever an out of ordinary event occurs, they ALWAYS get it wrong.

A case of damned if you do and damned if you don't...the linesman who you would presume has direct contact with the ref and doesn't have to come hurtling in waving his flag like the old days should have shut it down but a couple of tackles is only 15-20 seconds at most and the trainers were in attendance...so can't see how the players were at risk. At risk usually means they could be caught up in the play itself. So IMO no big deal but the linesman should perhaps have told the ref to halt to play a little earlier. I really don't think the ref himself erred.

If you have ever seen the movie "Being There" featuring Steve Martin it is about a person with low IQ and no real world experience being elected US president. Truth is stranger than fiction, "Chancy Gardener" looks like a towering intellectual in comparison..... I'm not sure how we all decided the world would run better with idiots in charge, perhaps the problem is only idiots go into politics.
