+x+xWaiting for AFL data for Sat Afternoon and Sunday, but AFL up across the board. Metro up more than 10%, Fox up 5% and total ratings up more than 10%. All capitals and regionals up. @footyindustryAU Crowds down in AFL and NRL......Fox revenue down about 10% Sports Industry tweet reckons it's the first time that the AFL has got over 300,000 attendances for each of the first five rounds of the season. They are about to make it six in the row with the ANZAC Day weekend. So if their crowds are down, it wouldn't be a a lot.

If you care to be positive, we still have more possibility for growth than any other sport.

We have yet to see that the A league can do the same.

We have yet to see that the A league can do the same. pretty sure average AFL crowds were regularly over 40,00 before expansion. they're under 40,000 now, but more people are going to games because there are 9 games per week instead of 8. they also play a lot of the blockbuster games early to gather momentum.

ok, so they never reached a 40k average, but there was a sharp drop in averages when the 2 new teams started. also a sharp increase in recent years, probably due to richmond having success.

That’s pretty interesting. They were about 36k, introduced 2 new teams and went down to about 31.5k, and are now back up to about 35k. Wonder what our 2 new teams will do for us. BankWest surely a factor next season as well.

BankWest surely a factor next season as well. Part of the recovery in average crowds is due to the Adelaide oval redevelopment, and the building of Optus stadium. Both Perth and Adelaide had games where demand exceeded the available stadiums capacity. Bigger capacity stadiums then lead to bigger average crowds in both cities. I dont think averages are back to what they were, if you allow for the effect the new stadiums have had. They certainly havent lifted because of what the new teams bring to the table.

Its OK if you guys refer to AFL as "we" instead of "they" I don't think it is a secret or anything.

A bit like the NBL Yes, and they've done a terrific job in trying to get back a little bit of relevance, but it remains a long, long way from where they were 25 years ago.

+xYes, and they've done a terrific job in trying to get back a little bit of relevance, but it remains a long, long way from where they were 25 years ago. NBL ratings are still well below HAL, yet according to the media they are undergoing a revival. but one thing their sport has going for them is that the national team is more competitive than ours.

NBL got a huge pump up this last season. Similar to when Kewell came home.
