Most people on here consider it to be League One level and most A-League sides have improved from last season.

"Secondly i thought people would have learned by now it doesnt matter what league or previous team a new player comes from, it has been proven time and time again."

Sometimes that is the case but sometimes it isn't. This guy has a crap record in a league that is worse than the HAL.

Waz - 10 May 2019 7:19 AM

This comment just reflects the lack of football maturity in this country. If an A League club tried to sign Jamie Vardie from a conference side there would be uproar and yet that’s what Leicester did and the player went on to be a huge success. "

Vardy was attracting interest from Championship clubs and was steadily rising up the leagues. This guy has slipped down the leagues.

"In england there is an acceptance that there are very good players in the lower divisions and the right move can unlock latent talent. Berisha and Broich moving to Roar unlocked talent that hadn’t been seen before in their performances (no  doubt other clubs have similar stories, O’Donovan is certainly another good example - when he was signed the “internet experts” were all critical and yet he’s been brilliant). "

These talented players rise up the leagues. They don't fall down into League Two at age 27. As for Berisha and Broich, they were playing at a much higher level than League Two. O'Donovan hasn't been brilliant either. He's lucky he has been in teams that create lots of chances because he's so wasteful.

Also, Ajose turns 28 this year. It's unlikely he's gonna improve.

I just think it’s an over-reaction that’s not warranted or necessary that’s all. Ajose could turn into a decent player or he could be shite. No one actually knows and where he’s playing now won’t determine that.

Someone who came through the Man Utd Academy and played age representative football for England clearly had the talent at some stage.

Neil Kilkenny is one of the most influential players at Glory and yet he came out of the lower leagues so I just think we need to relax a bit.

My my only concern is how are they deciding how good these players are and what their potential is? Normally that’s a scouts job over several months but who’s been looking at this player and for how long??

Maybe thats one of the things Fowler will bring - knowledge of some rough diamonds  in England’s lower leagues, we’ve all been focussing on LFC/Sturrage when in reality maybe we should be looking at Bury, Bolton and Tranmere for our next players??

Because we didn’t get enough of Ross Aloisi telling the crowd/4th official/assistants/referee/anyone in ear shot to “F*#% Off” loudly during games?? 😬

JA would have been proud of the way Marco blamed the officials for his players being unable to take penalties.

His CV gives us a good indication of how good indication of how good he is.

Kilkenny played in the Premier League, Championship and League One, not League Two.

Bolton would be a good place to sign players from given that they're in administration an play in the Championship. I personally would try and sign some of the players that were released by Sheffield United.

Don’t know. I know the medical staff that do this stuff but they’re professional enough not to give details .... but mean enough to tantalise me.

My guess would  be first signings will be australian based players

Thanks.

Players like Martin Cranie, Ched Evans, Paul Coutts and maybe even Leon Clarke would be great signings (At least on paper). Connor Washington would be great too but would be pretty unrealistic.

I am less concerned with ability at this point,  we really need to focus on availability,  injuries to key players and visa players have really hurt us last 2 seasons.

I hope we sign players that are durable and have high levels of natural fitness,
I hope our medical staff and coaching staff have a long had look at themselves (can't blame facilities anymore)

Maybe the roar should look at what the broncos are doing in strength and conditioning, as some EPL clubs are using the broncos methods.

Europe is funding the war not Chelsea football club

The strength and conditioning at the Roar has been woeful for some time.  Way too many injuries and the players couldn't run out a game.

It’s inexplicable after last seasons dramas. Fitness was poor full stop (although the kids seemed fitter than the seniors).

Injuries I’m  less concerned about because I think we signed injuries and most were explainable eg Holman - knee; DeVere - knees and O’Toole - broken leg (not fitness)

i think we then then had some mental/attitude issues with some of the players TK and Mikklesen spring to mind.

Based solely on stats, he does seem to be able to score a few from midfield, which is something we are definitely lacking. Still only 27 as well. He'd be a decent signing imo.

Could also be headed to Western?

Yeah could be. Just picked up the announcement on twitter yesterday. I suspect we’ll have a largely Australian/UK & Ireland squad next season so this guy fits.

he seems like a player that never quite lived up to his reputation, but has racked up the appearances in league 1. he doesnt seem to have been a stand out in league 1 hopefully he has something to prove if the club signs him.

Didn't they also change the strength and conditioning coach as well a season or two ago?  I'm struggling to think of a positive aspect that was left by John and Ross.

I thought we lost a world class strength and conditioning coach, picked up someone else, went through a season of fitness hell when we also had the off field dramas, then got a decent strength and fitness coach after that. I am really not good on the backroom side of the club so I could be way off.

When I wear their colours, I am the club.

I believe this is referring to the appointment of Craig Duncan who was previously the Head of Sports Science with the FFA to oversee the sport science program at the club . He is still around, as he was a part of the panel who recruited Fowler. Our current strength and conditioning coach is Scott Smith who was previously with the Wanderers.

TK, Mikklesen, Lopez even have all been shite. Our poor recruiting of visa players has been largely responsible for our decline.

The biggest issue for for me is no one’s actually been watching these players play before they’re signed. That’s what I think Fowler and Grant will sign England based players who they’ve seen play.

the year of injury hell came when Karl Dodd was our "high performance manager" and we didnt have a strength and conditioning coach. I dont know what his qualifications for that role were but the results were not pretty.

Craig Duncan is a excellent person to have as head of High performance hopefully he has us running well next year, we definitely missed Mauk this season. I suspect that JA wanted to build the side around him so having him out for so long would not have helped at all

It’s interesting that a club needs a head of ‘high performance’. So is everyone else just focused on mediocre performance?

My issue and concern is that we may end up as Brisbane Phoenix or Brisbane Glory prior to this season. If we're lucky.

There's never been a successful team in Australia (to my knowledge) that's been full of Brit players and gaffers under one roof.

I'm hoping for the best but fearing the worst.

Understand and share that concern. I’d rather we had 5 Brazilians on the books to be honest.

But, there has been a coaching/playing revolution going in over there for the past twenty five years and the best young teams and players are often English and any player under 30 has come through a different system to those older; so reputationally it’s not a good look but who knows?

Tony Grant was Everton's European scout, so I would say he would be in contact with a network of people that span the continent and may be able to unearth a couple of gems out of Europe as well as the UK that aren't PL standard but would be good in the HAL.  I am going to remain optimistic.
