+x+x[quote]Pointing to personal income tax as the be-all and end-all and using it as conclusive proof that we're taxed more just illustrates your lack of economic knowledge beyond trickle-down-tier talking points. If you literally scroll down to the next page, it explains how we're taxed less - zero taxes on social security contributions and substantially less on GST. Also interesting to note that the periods of lowest tax-to-GDP ratio came under the Labour governments, funny that. GST is a flat tax you dumb ass, everyone pays the same rate rich or poor. Many countries have high GST and sales taxes to counter comparatively lower personal taxation. Personal tax relative to GDP is the best way to measure tax burden as it’s a progressive tax, the more you earn the higher rate you pay. If you refer to the link below, you will see Australia has the SECOND most progressive tax system within the OECDhttp://comparativetaxation.treasury.gov.au/content/report/html/06_Chapter_4-04.asp And the 6th lowest overall taxation burden in the OECD. https://www.oecd.org/tax/revenue-statistics-australia.pdf

Simply measuring tax as a percentage of GDP is a dumb way of measuring tax burden as many countries collect higher taxes by deploying punitive and regressive sales and GST taxes that proportionally hit those on lower incomes harder than those on higher incomes.

+xReplace Fox News with Sky News & Murdoch Papers and you've pretty much got Australia Notwithstanding the guy presenting this video is (and I hate to use the term liberally, pardon the pun) clearly a bug man, and the fact it's a Vox clip, there's plenty of other bias right from the outset of this video, even on a subtle level- For instance, notice around the 1 minute mark with the illustration of the "Ideal" world, where the journalist sits in the middle of the woman representing the Democrat talking points and the man representing the Republican talking points. Notice how when the narrator talks about the journalist "sorting through what's important", the Democrat woman is talking and he is listening earnestly. She holds the papers neatly, pleading in an almost elegant fashion... Then notice how when the narrator talks about "partisan bullshit", it is the Republican guy talking, aggressively jabbing his finger on a piece of paper where one of the two words, in bold is 'Death'. That word straight away creates a negative image in the minds of most people- images of destruction, of ideologies that are fatal, maybe even the Grim Reaper himself? Also pay attention to the "Are you serious?" look of ridicule on the "impartial" journalists' face... Then (in not so subtle fashion) the journalist accepts the Democrats' talking points, while rejecting the Republicans' talking points. That's before even watching the rest of the video. Even on a subtle level like this, is the constant message from these news outlets that: Republicans/ right-wingers= bad, hysterical, irrational, bigoted, get all their talking points from corrupt, crooked Fox News. Meanwhile Democrats/ liberals= good, virtuous, rational, educated people who get the facts from news sources we can trust because they aren't Fox and tell us things we agree with= people just like us. Imagine this propaganda being fed to you every day of the week, every month of the year, year after year, and only associating with people who hold the same worldview. You would begin to make some pretty inaccurate (outright ridiculous) assumptions about your ideological opponents. You would begin to actually believe that "Facts have a liberal/ left-wing bias" (because somebody with the same worldview as you said so, and of course they were telling the truth because only Fox News/ Republicans/ right-wingers lie). And this is why their side continues to lose. Yet they lack the self-awareness to realise that the reason for this stares at them in the face every time they look in the mirror, so instead they think that by doubling down on name-calling and trying to shut down opposing views as "hate speech", that they can win the war of ideas. I won't lose a wink of sleep if they spend the next 50 years making the same mistakes. The biggest irony will be seeing the kids of today growing up to adopt more conservative/ right-leaning ideologies to rebel against their parents...
There are only two intellectually honest debate tactics: (a) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s facts, or (b) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s logic. All other debate tactics are intellectually dishonest - John T. Reed

Question: what would be people's stance if the Government proposed tax concessions for green energy initiatives? e.g. tax deduction for purchasing an electric car or solar panel etc?

You try and tell that to all the struggling families and working poor! And secondly, we seem to be going round in circles. You link clearly states that Australia's average tax level is 41% compared to the OECD average of only 26% You do understand that Australia has one of the largest GDP in the OECD don't you? It is artificially high because of mining.

Great vid. I really enjoyed all the salt. Nothing better than tasting that delicious salt from the regressives who thought they were 100% certainties. It just goes to show their delusions and the delusions of the regressive media that got everything wrong!

+xQuestion: what would be people's stance if the Government proposed tax concessions for green energy initiatives? e.g. tax deduction for purchasing an electric car or solar panel etc? Depends on your philosophical leanings. Fossil fuels in Australia are rebated and subsidised heavily to the tune of billions of dollars annually. If you apply the same principles you could argue that renewables are heavily under subsidised. Which I believe is the case now. The government seems to be arguing that they want to let 'the market decide' and yet artificially skew the 'market' in favour of fossil fuels with rebates and subsidies.

Perhaps this link will help you. https://www.ato.gov.au/Rates/Individual-income-tax-rates/Let me put this in simple terms for you. Someone on $300k a year pays about 36 cents in the dollar as a percentage of their yearly income. Certainly not an onerous amount and by any 'pub test' you'd care to run, a fair amount. (By my reckoning.) But I'd hazard a guess that you'd say anything above 20 cents in the dollar is over the top. So Rusty, cock on the block, what tax rate as an overall percentage of income do you think is fair on a wage of $300k a year? 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%.???? No goalpost shifting thanks. Just an answer as a percentage. @Burtzur The facts are Australia is a low taxing country. It's borne out by those documents and any objective measure you'd care to look at.

It's actually 45 cents in every dollar over 180,000 that is taxed. So if you are earning 300,000, you will pay: 180000 to 300,000 = 0.45 x 120000 = 54,000 in tax plus 90000 to 180000 = 0.37 x 90000 = 33,300 in tax plus 37000 to 90000 = 0.325 x 53000 = 17,225 in tax 18201 to 37000 = 0.19 x 18799 = 3,571.81 in tax So if you earn 300K pa, you pay $108,096.81 in tax/. That is quite a hefty sum. If you don't think that is enough then what is enough tax? Where will you draw the line to avoid it not being worthwhile for this bugger to work 14 hours a day to get that kind of money? Where do you draw the line where it starts not becoming worth the stress, late hours, travel and working your arse off?

+x+x+x+x+x+xReplace Fox News with Sky News & Murdoch Papers and you've pretty much got Australia And this is why their side continues to lose. That couldn’t be more wrong. As a young adult, I can assure you that kids these days are Overwhelming progressive. I literally only know one young adult who is conservative. Hence why I said growing up. A majority of those growing up are progressive. Don't worry, age doesn't diminish progressiveness. It's a lazy generalisation to say as you get older you become more conservative. I'm more fired up over social inequity than I've ever been. Yeah and most likely the next gen will be even more progressive than the last. It's what has happened with the last 3 generations of my family at least.

It's what has happened with the last 3 generations of my family at least. What will happen is people will fight against Get Up, Greens and so called elite and educated inner city people. So no! This is what everyone say's but even in the 60s there was the hipster movement full of baby boomers that would listen to Rock N Roll, smoke dope, take LCD, take ecstasy, spit on Vietnam War vets, but those very same hipsters are more likely to vote LNP today because they have seen the error of their ways. People are actually rebelling against the regressives. The regressives have alienated the ALP's base - the working class! They have also alienated families, farmers, rural people, and religious people. The fact that you guys are not self reflecting is actually good for us because it guarantees Trump another term and it also means ScoMo has a chance to be Australia's next long term PM because he passes the pub test and is the first politician people can relate to since Bob Hawke and John Howard.

A majority of those growing up are progressive. Once you start working and paying Bills, you start living the real world. You do understand that ALP's primary vote was only 33%? Coalition 41.81%, Labor + Greens 43.47%. The loonies that gave Palmer 3.38% and Pauline 3.04% tip the scales back to the Coalition when you give them their assumed preferences. Why do you call them loonies. These are the disenfranchised, and calling them loonies does not help you at all. You might as well say they are stupid. These people are LNP voters in the most part. And the reason why they voted the way they did is because the LNP had Turnbul and was not reflective of conservative values and they were not yet convinced by Scomo. It was a protest vote and that is a legitimate way of voting. The ALP has disenfranchised many more voters who vote for the LNP because the ALP has veered and continues to veer off course and is not representing its base and that is why they lost and will lose again and again if they don't go back to the ALP heartland. Now, if you want to call voters looney, then those who voted Greens are not exactly lucid either when you look at their looney policies.

Two party preferred votes between the Coalition and Labor (votes, not a poll) was 51.63% to 48.37%. https://tallyroom.aec.gov.au/HouseStateFirstPrefsByParty-24310-NAT.htm

BTW, I edited my previous post. I'm not here to defend the Tree Tories, even if their preferences usually flow the right way. I was just trying to point out that your point about Labor getting the primary that they did didn't paint the whole picture.
