I also think he's a match.
Think about what those Cronulla teams of his were known for. Think about what we used to be known for.
He can bring back what's still there somewhere in the woodwork.
I honestly think with a squad he has a large say in assembling he could have as immediate and dramatic effect on Canterbury as Warren Ryan did and leave the same legacy.
And I count Warren Ryan as having the most influence on what The Bulldogs are only behind Bullfrog. Only here for four years but the culture he brought lasted 20 - before it died v Brisbane GFQF 2006 courtesy of the f***in' gangstas.

+xI wouldn't say no to Shane Flanaghan. I can get over the peptides and all the rest - and he is doing the time for it. So do the time and the slate's clean as far as I'm concerned. He ticks the boxes: Teams constant Top 4 or thereabouts presence. Teams perform to or beyond expectations. Players improve under him and play to their potential, some beyond. Premiership winner. RECENTLY. If there's anyone else can front with those creds or better then so be it. If not determine the ban and get him here sometime in '20, beginning of it would be nice. I agree Des also ticked a lot of those boxes, but we were a bit unlucky with Des, i can't see us repeating the same mistakes with Flanaghan, and they are different coaches with different styles. And the club can oversee recruitment professionally. If we had Des on a tighter leash we would not have had the same problems. I also like the fact that under Flanaghan Sharks are a club with a much tougher edge that can scrap for wins, when things are not going their way and are very good at winning close games. Out of Flanaghan and Kevvie I still prefer Kevvie, but there will not be many experienced coaches who we can get. Certainly not many premiership winners.

For the record, I also like Adam Elliott. He is not extraordinary on the field but he is an honest toiler and behind a strong pack may surprise. Off the field he is a decent human being with his heart in the right place and definitely a good ambassador for our club and its' image (except when low life journalistic grubs secretly and slyly take unapproved photos and illegally splash them over the tabloids). As far as Flanagan being mentioned, I agree the past is the past. He's paid for his misadventures and he is a good coach. I like Dean Pay, but unfortunately Dean is not showing that he is quite up to the task as yet and maybe make a fine assistant.

I agree on Wok, and it was also player he bought to the club like Peter Kelly and players coming though the ranks like Folkes that made a significant contribution. What you need is 1. Admin, 2. Coaching. 3. Players, in that order. .. if you have the right admin they typically get the right coach and the right admin+coach recruits and develops the right players. I think we were trading on our culture 2000-2006 admin was largely a shambles in that area and right up to now. While I rate Folkes is just about every way I don't think he was a great coach, somehow our culture and they players we had on board, got us over the line in 2004, and I'm very glad we won... I has been an ordinary 14 years since it would have been even worse if we didn't win in 2004. I suggest we can quietly consult Flanaghan on recruitment unless NRL rules prevent that... if nothing else that is a valuable extra opinion. We can also think about the kind of players we are recruiting, that is where Wok and Flanaghan got it right.

I would not put too much faith in the media reports ..... I'm sure our board members occasionally talk to a lot of people.. We would have to know the fine print on his current ban,,,, if he isn't allowed to talk to NRL clubs, I would not talk to him, not worth the risk, for him or us, as the NRL could extend his ban if they wanted to.

The other stupid part of no doubt 6L of red wine induced drivel is why the fvck would Sharks let their #1 back up half go while they are in the hunt for a premiership (with SJ wing injury prone) to strengthen one of the main contenders???...
As for Flanagan as coach, I think we have enough issues with the media and NRL without engaging him... He is however probably the best option (not currently engaged, and living in Austrslia) for us in our current state on field...

I suggest if we are thinking about the kind of players Wok or Flanaghan would sign Elliott is one.... You don't need to watch Elliott play for long to see he hates losing, gives it his all, plays with passion and tries to make a difference. Jackson is similar I just think Elliott is a bit more likely to make an impact running the ball, but you would keep them both even if one comes off the bench..... Chris Smith is another guy I would keep if the price is right and he improves, again I sense he wants to make a difference and self preservation isn't high on the agenda, ... he does need to improve but the attitude is right. I would like to see Renouf T get promoted and give a chance , Ogden is another definite keeper IMO. Stimson seems a good fit and CHN has talent but needs to lift his involvement. I would keep CHN as in the right team culture he will come on board. If I could, I would ask Wok or Flanaghan what they think of the rest of our forwards, i suspect I know the answer...

I put zero faith in media reports especially re rugby league... Your last paragraph is most likely how the 'story' still, a bulldogs official asking someone from the NRLol about the 'fine print', then that person from the NRLol leaking it to the media... Then again knowing the Terrorcrap, it could be completely fabricated... Tough week for sports lovers with 3am finish to the Windies game, Ash Barty, and tonight the Indians...

Sharks could play Moylan in the halves of SJ got injured, but why release players to help the competition.... especially mid-season.. Only do that when you have problems and need the SC space to recruit someone, I think the Sharks have most bases covered, I'm not seeing a need to strengthen the side.. Flanaghan junior can play reserve grade, he will be in reserve grade at the Roosters, when they are a full strength, If he ends up going there he can learn from Cronk next year...

I'm happy with DWZ, quality player, fullback, wing and (hopefully) centre.... Maybe he gets the fullback gig for now, with Meaney being demoted. In terms of attracting other players to our club, this is the kind of signing what will help. ... it terms of playing with more aggression and passion it should help...

EXACTLY the aggressive type of back we desperately need He runs hard, hands let him down sometimes, can sniff out tries & loves to belt the opposition No more nice guys signings..... TF

Pay needs to play DWZ at 1
This guy has no fear in running hard, loves to go looking for the offloads too, so get Renouf T into the side too ASAP.
These 2 combined will give us 2nd phase play big time.
I take it that Crichton & CHN would have been in DWZ ear about the club.... good signs them 2 ex panther boys are happy at Belmore
