+x[Posting in AF for visibility] G’day It’s no secret that activity levels on this beautiful and once-vibrant forum are at all-time lows. If you’re reading this right now, it means you care even a little bit about this place, and probably have some ideas on how we can breathe life into it again. Over in the mod subforum we've been brainstorming some ideas but really need a whole lot more brainpower, hence this call to arms. I’d like to request 3 things from everyone: 1. How did you initially discover the forums? 2. What’s kept you around? 3. Any ideas for acquiring new users? e.g. for me: 1. Article comments linked to the forum. This was how I and many others actually discovered the forum’s existence in the first place. I was a commenter for a good few years before even realising there was a forum connected. InsideSport still gets a decent amount of traffic who visit for the articles, and it seems like the lowest hanging fruit for getting new users involved. 2. Initially it was Joffa keeping everyone up to date with EVERYTHING. Legit, the FFT forums were almost entirely my one-stop-shop for Aussie football news because Joffa would scour the internet daily and collate all the relevant stories for everyone. Is there any way we can beg him to come back? (I don't know him outside of the forum) 3. Kind of already summarised above, but my two ideas are re-connect the forum to the articles, and bring back Joffa. I know we're all a negative bunch sometimes, but can we please keep all criticism in this thread constructive/as positive as possible? No negative comments about other forum members here please - save that for another day when we hopefully still have a forum to express said feelings... 1. How did you initially discover the forums? Searched on the Web looking to see if the same issues are occurring in youth leagues around the country. 2. What’s kept you around? I the hope that someone of authority will listen to real problems and solutions. 3. Any ideas for acquiring new users? Stay real and don't censor comments where possible.

+x+x+xIt would be interesting to know how some of the people who love conflict on the internet are in face to face contact off forum? My guess is they are angry, but too cowardly to confront others face to face and diss out abuse. The Internet is a great place for them to express how macho they can be by banging on keys. There is is a clear message on this thread about most wanting to discuss football in a civil manner on this forum. We have seen many posts from former regulars, which has been beneficial. We can do without your amateur psychology, decentric. And your wild guesses about other people's lives. Keep it normal... Why don't you ever start a thread about any issue in football, Victor? I've yet to see you do it in 13 years of football forums. You have plenty of ideas criticising those who do. What have you contributed to this threat that is proactive, champ? Your last post is evocative of your negative attitude. Here is an idea, why don't you provide a precursory synopsis of your last book on football you wrote? I'd eagerly look forward to it, instead of your constant moaning and negativity. On psychology, I have a degree in it. It's like nothing has happened over the last week or two. Decentric still resorting to abusive nicknames and criticising the posts of others. Forget about your proactive/active poster dichotomy- people are entitled to post in whatever style they wish. When you post nonsense, it needs pointing out to others. That's why my posts are apparently "negative" in your eyes. I've provided plenty of useful football information on here- which I'm sure was of great value to you years ago when you knew nothing about football. So get off your high horse- do you really think calling people Victor and Champ is in keeping with the reconcilitary atmosphere that now prevails?? Keep this up and I'll will be reporting you to the mods.

I think it will add to traffic and enhance the reputation of the forum.

Also there was a massive amount of quality posters and it made this place feel like home for some reason. I guess oz football was going well at the time as well helped before FFA ran the sport into the ground. 2/ I don't know any other forums where people discuss Australian football if i did know i would have left already. 3/ Try and get all the original posters back who made this place amazing ie Joffa with the constant articles he would find like bowmen said. 1 and 3 are good points. It is difficult to follow up the guys who have left though.

1. Initially it was the comments below the articles that brought me here.
2. Only real active forum about football in Australia.
3. Why I've been less active of late is the negativity on these forums, or that posts quickly turn to someone's agenda, of which there are 50 threads already on that topic. If the thread goes on subject, or two people engage in a petty squabble it quickly turns others away.
Prob needs someone to "chair" the forum better so that it keeps moving forward, posts are welcome but no one wants to squabble over the same issue in each and every thread. We'll sorry, one person will but this will drive others away. Don't need to censor them, just need users or a "chair" to keep threads on topic and not let them get drawn into the same old petty arguments. Think of how to chair an effective meeting, these are how moderators should be managing threads.

I used to be here posting daily, religiously, but I got a bit over it to be honest, too much garbage, personal attacks, multis, etc. I post here once a month now at best.
1. How did you initially discover the forums? Honestly can't remember, I think I lurked for a while before joining
2. What’s kept you around? The Aussies Abroad thread and also to read everyone elses opinions on current football issues, A-League, etc
3. Any ideas for acquiring new users? Not sure sorry!

Need to create more interesting threads too (the posts straight from 442 are not engaging enough, they don't ask a question or raise any discussion to ignite a thread either). Sure post the article link, but incorporate it into a discussion piece, ask a question, or for our thoughts/experiences etc. Hubspot provide some great insights to marketing on social media (and a lot could be applied to this forum).
Aussie Abroads is about the only thread I continually find interesting, outside of match day threads (but they have a short life span given their nature)

In fact the Peformance sub forum is one of the things that needs looking at on here - perhaps it needs merging or even being removed. I know you started it as a soapbox for your good self!

Lots of great ideas in this thread but it's devolved and therefore run its course. Thanks to all those who posted constructively.

I used to enjoy updating and maintaing the attendance thread, especially the spread of attendances and underlying trends.
used to love posting articles for discussion
loved the match day threads with there predictions and the dam levels
used to discussions about the state of the game, expansion etc...
graham Arnold as Socceroo coach, haven’t we seen that movie as breadth....yikes!
