Love this thread. Certainly have thread envy haha

what do you guys think of the Fowler affect? Will he get top line players just because they want to play for him? I personally think someone like Aidan O’neill for example might not have come to Brisbane this year but with him as coach he goes there.

I genuinely hope you lot are successful next season, the whole league is better when you guys are on

I’m not overwhelmed at this point that’s for sure.

I can just see us making excuses why things have not eventuated after a third of a season but that’s being pessimistic although probably end up as true.

It’s still early and there may be some really good signings around the corner, so it could change - fingers crossed.

In a resort somewhere

It’s a great thread, plenty of really good contributors.

As for Fowler? Not enough evidence to be sure one way or another - we hope for the best and probably fear the worst?

His first appointment, Tony Grant, was a shrewd one so that’s positive.

He cleaned out the squad which is another good sign. It would have been easy to hang on to a couple more

as for the rumoured early signings - nothing to get excited about but he’s reinvented the spine of the side from front to back which is exactly what we were all calling for.

Hes said to favour “winning, fast-flowing football” and if he delivers that, we’ll be happy.

Surely DD and Stef have been travelling the country, rounding up the local troups and bringing them back to Brisbane?
Way too early to tell what Fowler will bring, and whether it is something we will want. He has said the right things, but will they be empty words?
He seemed to indicate he had his eye on some players during his unveiling, so I assume we are close to an/some announcements.
I for one am going to remain blindly optimistic until I have reason to be otherwise.

What else can a fan do  ? Each end of season we are all hopeful of next season being better than last season. Of late that hasn't happened.
Hopefully this year we start making a bit of upward progress....otherwise it will be a very long season .

I am still in positive mode with fowler but that is mostly because we are still in the wild speculation phase. nothing has been confirmed by the club so i am filling gaps with positive speculation. Ie george mells has actually signed and is going to be a break out star, same with Tom Aldred and o'neil. Roy (has signed) has learnt his lesson and will be a saint tearing up the league, scoring for fun from all the service that he gets from our beast of a midfield. Mauk has recovered from his injury problems and bosses the league getting bought for Moyy money by a premier league team at the end of the season. Fowler turns out to be Ange 2.0 assembling a squad that plays out of its skin and goes 37 unbeaten and brings Broich 2.0 into the fold. Hell while im at it original Broich comes back and joins the team as an assistant coach eventually taking over from fowler (when liverpool take him as head coach from his wild success with the roar) and broich leads the roar to back to back doubles, ACL wins and club world cup wins.

I am sure i wont be as positive by round 4 when we have been bundled out of the FFA cup, half our team is out injured, we have lost every game in the last minute of extra time and broich 2.0 turns out to be more Chinese Messi than Maestro. (but i still wont write the season off). the joys of being a football fan :)

Fantastic approach and I think I will follow it.  My positivity might only last until the first goal soft goal conceded. :)

Announcing the Gladstone match today, David Pourre said player signings would be announced “in the next week”

tickets for the match itself flew flew out of the door - over a thousand in the first ten minutes which is astonishing:

I guess they are waiting for Fowler to be in country before announcing, and sure that makes sense from a marketing point of view but as a fan it is bloody frustrating I want to start getting excited for the season ahead but there isn't anything to get excited about until we can actually field a team.

I imagine these announcements will just be who has already been rumoured, and we'll have to wait a bit longer for any potential bigger names.

that and the players themselves. it is holidays for them and a lot are overseas or just taking their time packing up and moving. Roy is in the states and i am sure will fly back and pack up before moving up here (assuming he has signed).

CLUB MEETING | The RSF met with the club on Friday to discuss pre-season where a wide range of subjects were discussed.

(Yes, we all want to know who we’ve signed and when they’re going to be announced - we asked, but Dave Pourre has a great poker face ..... but there’s also a lot of fan planning stuff that needs to go on).

Some relevant dates came out during the meeting, here’s the ones were allowed to mention (all dates are approximate and will likely vary):

* 25th June - players return for medicals and preseason assessments.

* 26th June - Membership Details announced

* 1st July - first day of pre-season training

* 9th July - Membership renewal opens

* 13th July - Fowlers first game v Redlands (H), 3PM

* 18th July, Fan Forum, (tentative date) XXXX Ale House

* 20th July - Game v Brisbane City (H), 3PM

* 21-27th July - team in Gladstone

* 27th July - Game v Gladstone XI

* End July - HAL Fixtures released

* 1st 2 weeks of August is FFA Cup

Some journo on twitter reporting Brad Inman is on his way back to Australia to sign with Roar: https://twitter.com/reluctantnicko/status/1140628008971190272

Brad Inman is set to become the latest player to move from England to Australia, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

He would follow Craig Noone, who signed for Melbourne City today, and Adam Le Fondre, who joined Sydney FC last summer.

Alan Nixon has suggested Brisbane Roar could be set to sign him, but other than that there is no other credible source linking Inman with a move to the A-League.

Brad Inman. Ex Rochdale (among others) on way back to Australia. Joining up with Robbie Fowler at Brisbane Roar.

— Alan Nixon (@reluctantnicko) June 17, 2019

The Australian has enjoyed a successful career in the lower leagues at Crewe, Rochdale and Peterborough and is now available on a free after Rochdale chose not to offer him a new contract, and it is thought that he is keen on joining Brisbane Roar, where he could team up with Robbie Fowler.

Inman started his professional career at Newcastle, but failed to make an appearance before plying his trade lower down the footballing pyramid. Since then, the 27-year-old has scored 28 goals in 194 appearances in League One and Two, but now could be the time for him to move abroad.

The Verdict

This would be an interesting move for Inman. He still has a lot to offer in England and it would be surprising if a League One or Two club doesn’t attempt to sign him. However, Inman may be tempted by a move back home and now he is a free agent he is available to move where he wants.

Brisbane Roar are an exciting prospect too. Robbie Fowler is in charge and the club can surely only improve after finishing second bottom last year. Inman would likely be a key player for the side too, which is added incentive for the player to move to the A-League.

Where is the McConville rumour from, I haven't seen that one.

If we sign all of those players we are still short at least 1 CB and a couple of wide players

I recon the 5 in bold are 99% Certs based on the sources.

There’s also a rumour on a second visa striker which I recon is on the money too

plus all 5 visa positions are taken so ROD, Alfred plus 3 others ??

Messi I understand has done a U-turn ... said if he couldn’t be Roars GOAT he was off somewhere he could be appreciated. Fair enough.
