FFA seeks independent review into Stajcic sacking from Matildas

Football Federation Australia is set to conduct an independent review into its controversial sacking of Alen Stajcic as coach of the Matildas after months of public pressure and calls for greater transparency.

The Herald understands the review could begin as early as next month following the Women’s World Cup and is likely to be conducted with an external third party.

I mean I'm open to it being something like sexual harassment/assault and they are respecting the victims privacy by keeping the reason hush

but absent something like that it seems a terrible decision. So many times I was frustrated by the position of our midfielders and fullbacks in defence. I don't remember too many goals that were well worked. All the problems you would expect if the coach got replaced (and probably with an inferior one)

In one sense, I can see benefit in the Matildas having a poor showing at the FIFAWWC (having been told to suck on a goal-fest against one lowly team).

Of course, as an Australia supporter, I felt sorry at the loss to Norway.

But on the other hand, it gives a glimmer of hope that there will be an investigation into why Stajcic was sacked. After all, can you imagine a Stajcic inquiry going ahead if the Matildas had won the World Cup? Everything would have been white-washed. At least now, we can get down to a sense of fairness, and get to the bottom of it.

Collectively, we Aussie supporters will have to live with the bitter pill of "what if" Stajcic had not been sacked, and the Matildas had gone into the World Cup with the playing format and form that they had in the months before this nightmare occurred with Stajcic's demise.
