+xThis could be genius from Fowler or he could be getting it ask very wrong underestimating the league. Holloway's highlights show him being a big strong player. With Roy and him up front we are going for a very combative forward line. Halloway kind of reminds me of berisha on the ball. He looks a bit awkward but refund the ball through fight and strength. I'm amazed that apparently we payed a transfer fee for him. Gellesphy is interesting. Young and has a decent youth pedigree but hadn't been tested in a high league in seniors yet. Interesting they he would want to come here so young Having watched the rumours develop over the weeks it’s obvious Fowler/Grant have a plan and these players fit it. Whether it’s a good plan remains to be seen. The next 4 signings are all Aussies (I think we know who they are) so we’ll have a better picture by Thursday. Although there’ll still be 3-4 signings to go.

+x+x+x+xThe roar release or player signings described him as a forward. Also he played almost every game as a CF last season. Most likely, as stated, he’ll be a hold up player focused on bringing the other attackers into play. 3-5-2 I’m telling ya. That’s a perfect description for the central midfielder in the 5 With the rumoured signings and current squad Young Aldred Bowles English CB Neville- O'Neill-Mauk-Inman-O'Toole O'Donovan-Amadi Holloway
Bench: Freke, Hingert, Pepper, Mells, Wenzell-Halls i quite like that line up (assuming these signings are above average for the league). i would still feel more confident if we had a better cb than bowles as starter Gillespie , Pepper, Aldred, Bowles , will sign one more CB I’d say if playing 3/5/2

But the English system is teaching three st the back with two 6’s. Theres a realisation that wingbacks are always out of position.

Bench: Freke, Hingert, Pepper, Mells, Wenzell-Halls Like it. A couple of thoughts: - I don’t think Bowles will be getting a look in this season. Recon he blotted his copy book last year. - I also don’t think he’ll play wing-backs out wide (Neville/OT), I recon he’ll play with two 6’s instead so based on what we think we know: Young; Neville, Aldred, New CB; New, Inman, Holloway, O’Neill, New; ROD, DWH If Inman signs it'll be interesting to see what RF does with him. IMO he's a big talent and easily the best signing so far - potentially. Injury plus 2 other things have held him back, namely, being played out of position and a poor attitude. He's best at CF/AM I'd say. As for his rumoured poor attitude, welcome to the world of management, Robbie.

Good signing! 25, European experience, knows the A-league inside out, versatile. Can’t wait to get rid of duds like Bowles for fresher talent.

Getting more excited/ Not only does Fowler have a plan, this dripping pout the names seems to suggest that the back office also have a plan. Good on 'em all round.

Plenty of debate over whether Fowlers plan is a good one or not but for me that’s not the point - he has a plan and he’s backing himself. We’ll know how good it is by Christmas. And the marketing of this has been excellent. Nice to see the back office put some thought in to it and work hand-in-hand with the football department to create an exciting week for fans. Memberships go on sale soon (I think the announcement is today) and I’m told there’s a “surprise” in there for the new season so be interesting to see what they’ve come up with.

So the rumours for the next 2 days are 1 defender and 3 midfielders, also when are we going to announce Freke has been signed I can't see us picking up anyone else to deputise Young.
So for the Defender I am expecting Neville and hoping for McGing
Midfielders seem pretty locked in as Inman, O'Neill and Mells.
If we sign McGing that 3-5-2 / 3-2-3-2 is looking pretty likely

The names linked are Inman, O’Neill, Mells, McGing and Neville. That’s 5 so which one is false. There was also also a tweet yesterday saying O’Shea was joining Roar (from his neighbour) Freck - he’s already contracted to the Academy. Remains to be seen whether hes the back up to young

I suspect we will sign 4 more with one being a keeper

So when they start preseason training next week they should have 16 first team players plus the youth. Still aways to go

So I count 15 signed players including the 4 to be announced (16 if you include Pepper, but I haven't seen anything official), plus Powell on a scholarship. Assuming we sign O'Shea as well that leaves us with between 3 and 6 senior players to sign as well as 2 potential scholarship players as well. Still plenty of signings to come.
I would hope we add Akbari, Freke and Muratovic and possibly a couple of NPL players to fill out the squad

Three games to Dolphin Oval's a smart move. Take the lower drawing games (Nix, City, Mariners) there and also let Suncorp know that they're not totally irreplaceable for regular season games.

Done musings I've Fowlerbeen having.
Fowler seems to have a plan that these players fit. It makes me nervous, with very little to go on, it could be a complete flop but if it works out he is a genius. Time will tell which way it goes but at the moment I would rather this something radically different to the absolute garbage of repetition we had with ja (and to an extent other managers since Ange). And let's be honest if it fails then the HAL gets firmly placed at above league 2, most of league 1 and SPL standard. Players who excel here should be held to a higher standard when transferring looking at championship or bigger SPL clubs.
If he succeeds then Fowler has shown to be a great manager who can identify unutilised players worth a shot at a higher level and probably gets picked up by a championship club making the HAL look good for any one looking to make a name for themselves or to pick up a wobbling career. Let's face it if Fowler fails that is his management career over. He has more to lose than anyone else no matter the outcome the HAL should come off well. (It might just suck for us fans for a year). The worst outcome for everyone would be for Fowler to be middle of the road and finish 5-9 without challenging anyone

Modern English football is built on quick play, rapid transition, and getting as many people forward as quickly as possible. The speed of play is way higher than the HAL. I loved Ange but watching his teams play was like watching a chess match at times. Can Fowler pull this off is the question?

I think we’re all nervous with Fowlers recruitment so far, well at least I am. Unless there are more skilful players from other football cultures in the team the Roar will not be a top contender. If we’re happy just to be fast and competitive then that’s all we’ll be, fast and competitive. I’m concerned.
In a resort somewhere
