I think given the Joeys have qualified for the World Cup we should have a separate thread where we can discuss squad selection and how eligible players have gone so far this season.
Obviously there are a few players who are all but set in stone to be selected (Teague, Kirdar, Botic, Pavlesic etc.) but are there any players that you have seen in NPL or Y-League that you think have performed or developed well and should be considered for selection.
Also interesting to check up on the progress of eligible players currently playing abroad.

Yeah. Add in Alex Robertson, if he is willing to play and we could have a pretty good squad. I know there have been a number of decent performances by non-selected eligible players in NPL this season which could bring them into contention.
Just want to see if anyone who watches NPL could provide some info on these players and their progress.

Starting with Goalkeepers - Adam Pavlesic has played across Sydney FC's 1st, u20 and u18 teams this season, however he has played most regularly at u20 level, where he has accumulated 10 appearances. Similarly, Zenden Hart has played across all 3 grades, playing 15 and 10 games respectively at u20 and u18 level for Central Coast in NPL2. Oliver Kalac has also played 15 and 10 games respectively at u20 level and u18 level for Western Sydney in NPL2. Ahmad Taleb has made 20 senior appearances across NPL2 East and West, as well as 17 appearances at u20 level for Melbourne City.

Have to also add the team before Asian champs, several players missing not on the list.
Savas, Markovic, Craus etc etc.

Yeah, I think Savas might have a shot for the World Cup, I mean he was their key striker before seemingly being removed from the squad for other reasons (behaviour?). He's played and scored regularly at u20 level this season.

Something to mention about Botic is that he trialled, seemingly unsuccessfully, for Manchester United this season. He scored in a 4-0 victory for United's u16s against Newcastle in March.

Wow thats still a decent effort. regardless of him not getting a contract. At least he knows his level. Which is pretty damn good.

The thing about Botic, is that he is still at Rockdale which I assume means he's turned down a number of A-League clubs. That would probably mean that he's holding out for a move to a foreign club, which could be facilitated by good performances at the U17 World Cup.
In general, it would be fantastic to see a couple of the Joeys get signed up by foreign clubs. Our youngsters are definitely good enough, something which can be seen by City's performances at the Suning Cup in 2017 (beating Red Star and Koln), Sydney's performance at the ABN Amro Future Cup last year (beating Sporting CP) and Western Sydney's performances at the Guangzhou International Cup last year (beating Dynamo Kyiv, Guangzhou, narrowly losing to Palmeiras and Villareal).
I know at least a few of the players in this age pool have had trials abroad, some successful, and apparently Lachlan Sepping is lined up for a trial with Dortmund (through Marconi's partnership) - https://www.centralnews.com.au/2019/05/10/563621/potential-talent-selection-in-marconi-partnership-with-borussia-dortmund

I was about to say that Marconi put out a statement in a media release that Sepping was going to be selected by the Joeys for their upcoming camp.

https://twitter.com/marconi_sfc/status/1144122528299749377

We'll see if the FFA give us an idea on who is selected for the camp, but not holding out for it...

That's fantastic news about going to Dortmund though! It's funny, I've noticed since the partnership with Dortmund, that Marconi have recently been playing a lot of youngsters and keeping their bench spots mainly filled with youth players... They have a cup game tonight so will be keeping an eye on them!

A lot of twitter feeds regarding joeys, some real, some phoney. Hard to tell.
Earlier in the year Craus was linked with Stuttgart and Bournemouth.

We already have a thread for our youth teams so I don’t think we need a seperate one for the Joeys exclusively.

https://forum.insidesport.com.au/2193189/Australia-U172023-National-Team-Tournaments-amp-Discussion-Thread---U16-AFF-CHAMP

Anyway I’ll be intrigued to see how these guys go considering it’s the first group to go through the whole national curriculum from the SAP programs and onwards, well that’s what Trevor Morgan said about this 2002/2003 group in particular.
Arnie is wax lyrical them too saying he’s hasnt seen players like this in his time in Oz football(not sure about the real quote) then again it’s arnie.

Also on top of that Trevor Morgan has to manage the 2004/2005 group later this year in starting with the AFF u15 Cup I think in July/August? and then the AFC u16 qualifiers in September so he will be busy!

If he does well in the World Cup it won’t surprise me that he might get a trial over at BVB youth, this link is purely set up for play development terms only too.

One thing that is noticeable is that Melbourne City certainly seem to have a significant amount of talent in the academy/youth structure.

Hopefully this year more players get a chance for senior football though, as that will certainly help to accurate their development, and the national team structure as a whole.

Definitely. I don’t know why they keep signing mediocre visa players (Berenguer etc.) when they have such a great stock of young Aussie talent.

About Alex Robertson - none of England, Peru or Scotland have qualified for the U17 World Cup, meaning if he wants to play, he will have to play for Australia. This bodes well for his commitment to the Socceroos - hopefully it persuades him.

Thoughts on the squad? Familiar names from previous teams based on that list.

For some reason I’m not buying the hype on Alex Robertson...yet.
He seems to be getting a lot of hype from the media and the connections to Micheal Owen so I’ll remain skeptical for now.

Thoughts on the squad? Familiar names from previous teams based on that list.

For some reason I’m not buying the hype on Alex Robertson...yet.
He seems to be getting a lot of hype from the media and the connections to Micheal Owen so I’ll remain skeptical for now.

Alex Robertson is good...you don't get a scholarship + 2 year pro contract if you're not, not to mention getting capped.
The squad looks fine - I did a bit of research on Raffie, the Fleetwood lad, and it seems he's highly regarded there and his brother is at Man City. Apart from him and the Caroutas the guy in Spain, almost of these guys are not new in the setup. Would have been nice to see some more new faces. Hopefully the camp just reinforces some onfield chemistry.
