Pourre saying there’ll be four kits. Do we have a rough release date?

No, spoke to him a few weeks ago and it’s depending upon umbro and when they ship the kit. Noticed they were training in last seasons kit though so still not here.

“Earn the Orange” suggests they won’t be training in Orange?

I hope they earn the orange this season as it didn't appear hard to earn last season.

The maroon shirts they’re in are new aren’t they? The rest looks old though.

Speaking of jerseys I was in rebel sport the other day and they had so many Roar home shirts in there, like quite a bit on sale and couldn't move them.
Sadly the orange shirts probably only sell well when Brisbane are doing well, orange is not exactly the best colour to wear outside of Roar home games.
Hopefully the 4th kit is a black one.

It will probably be red, white and blue with funny crosses on it.

So even though Crocombe has played for New Zealand a few years ago, and has an Aussie passport, he is essentially another (very) low league English player/squaddie (moved to UK from NZ when he was a boy). Surely there has to be an Aussie keeper of at least equal ability out there looking to test himself?I was hoping that Roar would get someone who could put a bit of pressure on Jamie Young, as I think his game deteriorated last season (although the way the team was defending didn’t help him). Someone like Daniel Margush would have been good.Or otherwise I would have liked to see a relatively young but upcoming NPL keeper get an opportunity.

Isn't Crocombe the GK who got sent off for urinating behind the goals in public during a match?

He’s coming from basically the same level as Jamie Young who’s one of the best keepers in Australia, so where he’s playing now is irrelevant.

They had ex-NPL Keeper White as reserve last season so clearly they are prepared to run with an NPL keeper but really, most of the NPL is run at the same level as English park football played on a Sunday so our mate Max is coming from a higher standard than NPL anyway.

And theres very very little ability for a good reserve keeper to push a first choice keeper anyway. Put a good keeper on the bench and 6 months later with zero game time they’ve gone backwards - reserve keeper has to be the worst position in a squad surely. All you get is Air Miles.

The NSD will help in this regard, 8-10 Aussie keepers playing professionally at a better standard than NPL.

Crocombe - 5 games in League 2, about 90 in lower leagues, and none last season for a 5th tier side.
Young - 180+ games in League 2, 1 in League 1, 1 in the old first division. A number of games in non-league sides in the season prior to returning to Brisbane.
Doesn’t look comparable to me.

Pretty comparable though.

Both in the lower leagues and Young was playing in the 6th tier of English football when he was signed by Roar.

The reality is is there are good players in lower divisions, Young and Paartalu are obvious examples but there’s many more.

Who sits on the pine this season in reserve to Young is the least of the challenges facing this team. We have one of the best (and longest serving) Goalkeeping coaches in the league - he hasn’t let us down and if he says Blind Freddy from Barnet is worth a go, he probably is.

Waz, your definition of comparable is not the same as mine lol.

I agree that second keeper is not the biggest issue for Roar, which is why I wonder about getting someone like Crocombe, from England, to take that role.

Anyway, let’s see how he goes (or possibly not see, depending on Young’s fitness and form!!).

little disappointing in not going from brattan, with Sydney most likely going to pick him up. To me its the type of player we needed in our midfield, pick up a lot of fitness being at city. We see how these new recruit go, its impossible to know these visa players, but puts massive doubt in your mind when other teams are picking up players with epl experience or top flight on the continent. with the roar picking up players with only league 1 and 2 experience. It seems to impossible to tell these days

People look back at Ange ball and think (rightly) that it was a revolution and the perfect way to play. But sitting in the stands the most common thing I heard was "shoooot. Stop bloody passing it and have a shot". I would generally answer them saying no keep possession

The general crowd clearly did not have the appreciation of Ange ball at the time. Or realise that the rain it was successful was that it was based around continual possession. The chances cane from wearing down the opposition.

I hope RFs system is based around possession and slick passing

.....which is why players should never listen to clowns in the crowd yelling shooooot !!

Can anyone rock up to their sessions?  I'd tend to think 99% of training sessions would be closed doors otherwise you'd have teams spying on each other and shit.

Anyone can rock up for training sessions. What access you are given is down to the coach of the day.

Aloisi would close off one session a couple of days before the weekends game where he had the team practicing tactics (who knew he did “tactics”?) but other than that they were all open.

If youre in luck the gates are open and you can sit in the shade and close up to the action, this is the bit they normally close off. Failing that, you can watch from behind one of the goals or climb up the small hill on the far side and watch - there’s public access to these areas so no restrictions.

Training is at at 1000 each day but there is a routine of rest days and at this time of year, double sessions and sometimes they can be over the road in the gym so anyone travelling far would be wise to call ahead and check.

Also David Pourre is often out and about and always chats to supporters who are there.

Also this Saturday at 3PM is the first preseason game v Redlands United at Logan

I cannot see anything about ticketing for the Redlands game - do you know if it is simply turn up, some sort of donation, or if there is ticketing?

Should be interesting. Last seasons first game (v Logan Lightening I think) was a dour affair. We didn’t look coherent, didn’t look like scoring many, and even though we ran out 4-0 winners the problems we had in that game we went on to have in the HAL.

Given that the players have only been together for 2 weeks, what sort of output is expected in the first game? How effective are they going to be with such a limited preparation?

Always hard to say right. Can’t see Fowler taking any chances on fitness or any unnecessary selection risks.

However, he comes from the English system that starts preseason in July and the full season 5 weeks later so will be looking for his side to hit their straps early (I remember Aloisi saying A League players don’t get full fitness until about R8 which is just bollocks imo).

Last season the “fingerprints” of what was to follow were there in most of the preseason games, not just the first which started out with defensive uncertainty, nervousness in front of goal, and disjointed build up play.

So im guessing Fowlers “fingerprints” will be on how they play - I’m guessing we’ll get an answer to three at the back (or not) for example even though it can’t be anywhere near the finished article.
