+xgeez would take him in a heart beat, but surely we haven't convinced him to come back from the Championship He’s left Millwall so could come in as a marquee presumably he would fix the left side of midfield

+xJay Ingham has signed with Roar apparently Would much prefer we just promote a younger player. He obviously isn't good enough to push for a starting spot, so why not let a younger player come in and take whatever small amount of game time he would get?

With players like Ingham it's more about opportunity. He showed he can score in the ACL. When foreigners are ahead of you ,how do you get consistent game time to improve? If Nabbout had stayed at MV ,wouldn't people be talking about him the same way? Anyway if anyone can improve a striker it's Fowler. Another experienced forward is good news.

+xSo Roar have 21 players: 2 Goalkeepers 9 defenders 6 midfielders 4 Forwards Is that a normal ratio of players? Looking at it very simplistically, if we are playing a 3-5-2 would you normally expect more midfielders than defenders in your squad? At least one of the 5 would be counted as a defender (DM) making a 4-4-2 ratio so to have a backup for every position would see 8-8-4 in the squad. If we count our roving wide players as defenders that makes a 5-3-2 ratio so 10-6-4 would cover everybody's backup. That would mean we need another defender still. From last season's horror injury run and exceptional defensive setup I have no problems with lots of defenders but I am wondering if RF knows enough about the pointy end to have 4 forwards working well but is stocking upon defenders to make up for his own lack of personal defensive knowledge.

Note - I excluded goalkeepers from my ratio/count in the previous post. Checking the mighty wikipedia for seasons 10/11, 11/12 and 12/13 showed the following ratios for the Roar: 10/11 6(1)-10(2)-2(1) (Full Squad 20) Premiers and Champions 11/12 9(3)-9(3)-5(3) (Full Squad 25) Runners-up and Champions 12/13 8(3)-10(3)-7(3) (Full Squad 27) Fifth and equal Third in finals where the numbers in brackets are the youth players included in the total (so 10(2) means 8 senior and 2 youth). Surprising we only had a squad of 20 when at our best and only playing 1 senior and 1 youth forward, Theoretically a fit, clean team could play a season with 14 players in a squad giving 3 subs a game. Not that anyone could or would do that.
When I wear their colours, I am the club.

Just for comparison, from Wikipedia SFC last season had: 8-10(2 scholarship)-8(1 scholarship) (Full Squad 29)

+xJust for comparison, from Wikipedia SFC last season had: 8-10(2 scholarship)-8(1 scholarship) (Full Squad 29) better comparison would be to perth who play a similar 3-5-2 with 2 wide defenders (really a 5-3-2). this will be a similar set up to what we have this season. in their squad of 22 listed on wiki they had 8 -7 -5

+x+xIs this a thing or are you just putting it out there? Thing Does make sense, English connection. Would make the left side stronger. Sucks for Powell though, he looked competent last season and he'd now be 3rd string on the left.

Sucks for Powell though, he looked competent last season and he'd now be 3rd string on the left. Powell is only 17 and he’s not ready for a full season of HAL, nor by the looks of things is O’Toole. It should be O’Toole as starter and Powell as occasional alternative but it’s not, they’re not there. Reardons development went went backwards last season when he was thrown in at the deep end and he couldn’t cope so you have to be careful with very young players. It’s no coincidence that often when really young players do make it they often have the “arrogant” tag attached - mental resilience often lags footballing ability.

No. I always thort Nabbout had something and always seemed s threat when he came on. Just haven't seen that with Jay Ingham. But he might prove rove me wrong.

I believe the squad is at a point where now it only requires top shelf signings.
Theres enough young players, average players, unknowns quantities.
No no need to add anything unless top shelf.

And with Poppa's defensive intelligence it sort of rules out my wondering about RF bolstering his defensive thinking too.
