The super rugby competition is one of the things contributing to Rugby Unions demise in Australia. A domestic competition played across 4 continents is absolutely stupid. Should be a lesson to the A-League as to why we shouldn’t even think about expanding into Asia, Australia is already big and hard enough to try and get around. It would be a logistical nightmare.

That's why Super Rugby's next tv deal will be close to $100m a year next year. The money is in Asia and the HAL needs to get some asap.

The only logistics the owners care about is how to move money from SE Asia to their bank accounts.

What on earth are you on about? NZ and RSA are the only 2 countries that care about Super Rugby, and even they are caring less. The Japanese team has been kicked out after being a total disaster so there goes any Asian money for the Super Rugby deal

should we be expecting an announcement today (or in the coming days) re the indepenant HAL? I assume there will be a commission-type setup to represent the interests of the HAL and the clubs with Greg O’Rourke as the head?

Would be a breath of fresh air if they just released a written statement.

Australian sport is so over the top with the pageantry about every single trivial (and big) thing.

Low key please.

Still nothing... no mention of this anywhere which is strange. I would think officially signing off on a-league independence would be big news, particularly for the usual suspects such as Vince Rugari. Could they still be ironing out the final details? They did have a meeting with Fox recently, I wonder if that has anything to do with it (the inactivity)?

Nothing on their official site

Last statement was 1 July

“...FFA will retain a 20%, non-diluting and non-voting, ‘carry’ equity share in the League. Importantly, if a portion of the Leagues are ever sold in order to generate investment funds for further growth of the League then 20% of those proceeds would be allocated to FFA for investment in accordance with FFA’s objects.”

What have we missed

"In the A-League it's all quiet with the Head of A-League Greg O'Rourke and his staff now reporting to the A-League clubs and not FFA, while fans wait - still - for the 2019-20 fixture list".
Football Today understands that, just as when a government changes hands and points the finger of blame on the prevailing budgetary situation at their predecessors, the A-League clubs have taken over to find that the underlying financial position is 'worse' than they were led to believe. City Football Group 'consultants' are running the ruler over simply everything and are the chief source of advice and recommendations to the now independent A-League clubs. Let's hope CFG's consultants understand the Australian football environment a little better than Melbourne City has to date demonstrated. However, in their defence, CFG would claim that commercial self-determination will make the difference. Sauce

Can anyone tell me what the point of having a multi is ?
I have no idea who is or isn't but you would have to question the motives of anyone having one .
Its like a person having multiple personalities ...and that is considered a mental disorder...

My understanding is the clubs found out quite a while ago that taking over the League would not see as much extra cash available to them as they originally thought.  Is that what this article is alluding to?

With independence, we need to market ourselves as the English Speaking League OF Asia.
So much social media is in English. MLS is killing it in latin America partly because, whilst they broadcast in both Spanish and English, they are getting their content out there on social media.
Take a look at the Argentine Superliga English Twitter feed and they even have MLS content on it about Argentine players.

We should work with the government on this.

Just start a competition with a permanent residency visa up for grabs, all they have do is watch an A-League game and find the code and then send it into the FFA. Have the code running for every match, bonus entry if they like or follow all the A-League clubs' social media channels and buy a membership to any A-League club.

Guarantee record numbers across the Asia-Pacific region.

From The Summit

JJ wants A-League Team Owners to take full charge on Independence(No Ownership Yet)

"The address from Johnson, who has been in the top job at FFA for just over a month, was not antagonistic unlike the many exchanges between the governing body and the clubs during the Lowy-Gallop era, according to the sources, who described his comments as a more conciliatory call to action that came with the support of FFA. It was received well by the clubs."

"Scudamore conceded certain elements about the A-League were still in a "halfway house" because it is still legally tethered to FFA."
