Kingsman said it was the city colour.

Our City's sporting colours have long been white with red piping . Brisbane representative Soccer and Rugby League teams always wore white and red .Also had a red Poinsettia emblem.

Since when do sporting teams in Australia have the colours of the flag ? Can't imagine the National sides being red white and blue. ...and to be honest ....if Brisbane's flag is to be any colour it should be Orange !!!!

The point is the CEO at the time made a statement when the blue and orange kit was released. A statement that was even posted on the club’s official social media Twitter account.

The statement was that the blue kit with orange was to pay respect to the Dutch heritage.

The CEO at the time also made the statement, in an open fan forum with about 60 fans present, that the blue was the same blue as the colours in the city’s flag. Sadly poor old Mark rests in peace and the only person who would know for sure is Bossie who was Marks right hand man at the time, he now works at Suncorp Stadium in charge of corporate sales so there’s a chance someone will bump in to him in game day - they should ask.

Theres also a couple of other possibilities too; the first is that the blue conveniently provides a nod to both the Dutch past and the City colours. I for one don’t believe it was a random colour choice so either or both explanations fit.

The second is that Mark was a master of the marketing spin and if you wanted to believe it was a nod to the past “then it was”, equally if you wanted to believe it was a link to the city “then it was” also. Mark would smile at the thought that three years later Internet forums would be arguing over it lol.

Looking back over this thread - it’s clear we’re all bored to death of the close season if we’re debating 3-year old change kits 🤪

I think you’re missing the point.

no not missing it ....purposely changing it ...as you say ..we are bored . Do we play anyone else before the CCM game ?
.....and ...Brisbane  has a flag ? ...if I have seen it I must have forgotten it as irrelevent...I am assuming it has blue on it ...
back to the subject ...
Brisbane Lions colours were and are orange and royal blue so that old training jacket was the true colours. .It was difficult to get anything in full orange back then so the Lions jackets were often either blue with orange piping or sometimes a completely different colour. I played for them in the mid 1970's and I still have (I think) a full bright yellow tracksuit they issued us !
The next season they found someone who made an orange and blue one . (thank God)

Not injured as far as I know.

Holloway still recovering from a hammy and Jack chomping at the bit to get back ASAP before Neville locks down RB.

Bowles is the unknown - recon it might be longer term!?!

Just to shift the off season debate a little ....I wonder if the A-League clubs could run a "Who is your other club campaign ?"
i.e. if we want to raise our supporter numbers by harvesting people in the grass roots , why not try and show a connection between the Roar and the local clubs ?
I have not fleshed this idea out but maybe some of you can think of ways to do this ?

Maybe The Roar can ask all members ( a survey ? God forbid ...ha! ha ! ) who their main "other club" is and do some sort of cross promotion with local clubs who share the most supporters.
Personally.... I probably don't have a local NPL club anymore but I and my son are connected to my local club Ridge Hills and I played at Mitchelton for 17 years so I still have soft spots for both. To be honest I don't go to senior games of either anymore but if the Roar was doing some cross promotion I may be more tempted to go along and swell the local clubs numbers a bit .
Anyone think something like this might work to help both local and a-league numbers ?..or is it a silly idea ?

Personally I would really like BR to spend some time and energy on building support in Gold Coast.     So much effort seems to be going to the north in the Sunshine Coast when Gold Coast has a bigger pop, especially including NSW Tweed Heads region, and easier access with less travel time.

GC is not worth the effort. Yes they got the population, but no one goes to games. This is for all sports. Look at the titans or the crushers? Before them. The biggest sport in the area, poor crowds and near financial collapse.

North coast and west out to Toowoomba and further they will go to games.

Gold Coast is not that hard to understand.
The problem is the people who make decisions, dont live on the GC and arrogantly think statistics are all they need .
The Gold Coast is full retirees and tourists. The actual number of people who follow and attend sports is not that large and they are not that wealthy.
But there are sports fans.
30k stadiums should not be there. They are a waste of money and too expensive to hire.
A 15k boutique stadium would have been perfect.
Plus the stadium should have been at the southern end of the GC.Near the Uni would have been perfect.
people from southern Brisbane / Logan then could easily get there.
GC v BR in a 15k stadium would have rocked.

So all that money wasted on dumb large stadims in dumb locations.

Interesting that Oscar Woods is also a Brisbanite who played at Burnley like AON.
Also he plays RB or M.
Adding depth to the right defence.
If we get Meridith that would nicely balance the team.

Just to add my 2c re: the Gold Coast debate, I'm not sure it will be worth Roar's time and effort anyway. After living here (GC) for a few years and connecting with some locals to get their views on it, they feel like Brisbane doesn't represent them and they would rather see time and effort invested into an NPL club to grow it over time (Palm Beach, Knights, etc.). People here are generally proud of this city and don't want to be thought of as just an extension of Brissy.

I agree with all that. The recent GC Derby between knights and United showed what local interest in local teams can do and that to me is the best option for the future.

Roar will always draw some supporters from the coast, partially down to migration, but attempting to convert locals is probably a doomed effort.
