Look at some of those names! That's excluding a lot of the good A League based players. We know not everyone will kick on but we can ensure a solid future if Arzani, Folami, Iredale, Duncan and Italiano fulfill their potential. Great to see Laws, Armenakas and Kalik have been considered. Don't know anything about Bouman, Del Grosso or Flottman.

Great to see Laws, Armenakas and Kalik have been considered. Don't know anything about Bouman, Del Grosso or Flottman. Bouman is playing in the Eerste Divisie for SC Cambuur. He’s a forward, who banged in the goals for Groningen’s youth team last season, but he’s struggled for first team minutes this year. Del Grosso is playing for Cittadella’s youth team (Serie B and managed by an Aussie), having just signed from Inter’s youth setup. Flottman plays for Sydney FC, and seems to be their 3rd choice CB atm, having resigned for the club after a short stint at a 2nd division Thai club (Air Force FC iirc). Overall, the squad seems to be an attempt to assess some lesser known European based players, hence its location in Qatar being more accessible from Europe, while also bringing some HAL-based players in who are not first choice at their clubs, which explains the non selection of players like Mourdoukoutas, Wilson, Brimmer, Ivanovic, McGree,Toure etc.

Really glad to finally see the including of some of these o/s based juniors like Francois, Bouman and Cleur. Will be really interesting to see if they person well enough in this squad to make the final squad.

Nowhere near our best... got to be 20 players missing. Maybe these guys are just going to be looked at. no way any of those 3 keepers will start for Aus.

I concur with all the comments regarding seeing all these names being called up into camp.
Especially intrigued to see how Cleur, Bouman, Del Grosso and Francois stack up to the other guys.
Cleur has been playing consistently for his Serie C side, played 66 minutes at RM last weekend, bit more advanced for him than RB, where he is accustomed to.
Bouman has been struggling to break into the first-team who are doing extremely well, but did score a BRACE for the reserves a week ago.
again, don't know much about Del Grosso, but being at the Inter youth academy is a good sign of his abilities, and he's at a good place atm with Cittadella, according to his Transfermarkt he has just scored a goal against Milan U19's today, in a 1-1 draw. meaning he's scored 2 goals from 4 apps from DM.
And I think Francois' seasons at Fulham speaks for itself, IMO should have been called up for earlier squads. But nonetheless super happy about this squad.
I'm not a fan of Armenakas being there NGL, I don't think he's in favour of the manager at Pana. and don't know if he's even playing reserves atm. It would've been nicer to see Theoharous' name instead.
I can't complain overall, finally we're doing something to keep our Euro boys happy and in contact with FFA.
Honourable mentions that missed out:
- Deni Juric - Antony Martis - Con Ouzounidis (Don't think he's playing atm) - Isaac Danzo - Josip Zelic

+xProbably the best u23 team we can field barring deng and souttar Huh? Barely any of these guys would make the squad for the Olympic qualifiers. This is just a camp to have a look at the European based players.

+xProbably the best u23 team we can field barring deng and souttar Definitely not. Almost all of these players have played little to no first team football - Iredale, Bouman, Francois, del Grosso, Calderbank Park, Maynard Taylor, Armenakas, Timotheou, Laws and Ryan are notable examples of this. Players like McGree, Vujica, Mourdoukoutas, Ivanovic etc. would be better than most of these players.

Pretty generalist comment that when most of these young players have already played over a dozen games in their respective leagues and leagues which in terms of quality and coaching are light years ahead the local NPL competitions or A-league friendlies that have gone on. Anyone know if they are actually scheduled to play any matches in qatar or is it just a training camp ?

Apart from Cleur and Kalik, and to a limited extent Iredale, none are getting any actual first team football.

No disrespect to the some of the overseas lads but some of them are not even playing any sort of football whatsoever.
At least they are casting the net wide but this should be seen as a good lesson.
Never judge a player whether they are playing, equally respect every talent we got accordingly whether they at home or overseas.
I bit like that Alex Robertson SBS piece after the Joeys World Cup squad got announced a day earlier, it’s so disrespectful to the squad selected it’s not even funny.

EDIT: Didn't see Zach Duncan on there, he should be in the Socceroos squad given he's playing first team football in the same team as Mustafa Amini!

At least half a dozen players named should be in our next team sheet. Players like Arzani, Iredale, Duncan, Gersbach, Folami, and maybe Italiano and Francois would all be either starting or bench players for the Olyroos. We have no-one better than them. Experience doesn't matter, talent is all that counts.

Maybe but I'd reckon it's more to do with the culture that existed at Heartle$$. 3 players involved were contracted there. The other will most likely get blasted by 2 of the 3 Tony's at BHP Western Australia. But if McGree was installed as Captain of the Olyroos then there is a culture problem. The other big issue is that this is for Olympic Qualifying and future funding is dependant on results and appropriate behaviour.

+xSuper vague article. I wonder what happened. After the FFA investigation of the Stajic debacle, who the hell would trust them to handle any investigation transparently and with due process. Especially when, as the article states, the investigation took months to complete due to its ‘’complexity”. Maybe it took a while to get the surveys back
