I thought the Sydney fc game At Leichhardt looked great for the number reported. Both games there and Kogarah look better on TV then Allianz ever did.

Even in the derbies ??

If you're a Sydney fan you probably should know this, but SFC have handed WSW 2 home games this season, but will have the favour returned when the new stadium is complete.

Melbcityguy - 22 Oct 2019 8:15 AM

ffa cup final 15k

BR v MVFC - 12k (they've only passed the 15k mark once in the past 3 years)
Jets v Adelaide - 9k
WSW v SFC - 27k (sellouts never seem to mean full house anymore)
Distance Derby - 7k
WU vs City - 9k (kick off time sucks I agree)

By the rate they are going with the construction, they will owe us a few favours. Can see us getting three a season for about three years.

Yeh to be fair alliance ( sfs ) wasn't the worst stadium at all.

It was too big though for the games excluding the derbies, which is why Sydney FC games now look good on tv even though crowd numbers are pretty much identical to those at alliance. Ditching SCG in the meantime has been the best thing that could happen.

I wish we had fucked off ANZ Stadium and Spotless Stadium as well once it was clearly obvious for all to see it just didn't work after the first season.

Sorry should have been more specific, watching from TV it looked better, might be more a personal opinion of mine but I like watching games both in person and on TV at suburban grounds. The derbies and finals at Allianz were fantastic and the games I attended at Allianz weren’t bad.

Not without substantial redevelopment. It's a suburban ground with a hill. Good enough for the next few seasons but the new Moore park ground will be a substantial improvement assuming the 30k club mode is the real deal.

err, for Roar it’s Suncorp (52k) or QEII Stadium (53k) ... at least they chose the one with the lowest capacity.

Other than the early time slot, there is no reason why they shouldn't/can't get to 15k+.

-first home game
-good energy around the club
-vs Melbourne Victory (usually an entertaining fixture)

Not surprised to see a comment like that. It is a bloody Sunday 6pm in a game out in Geelong. There's a V Line about the second the game finishes assuming no delays but A League games are always late, if you miss that you need to wait a hour for the next one. Which then takes about another hour just to get back to the City at which point the trains run at a much slower rate since it is a Sunday night.

It is just flat out stupid scheduling if the league wants any solid amount of away fans.

I struggle to understand the logic behind anything thinking there is benefit in playing this game on a Sunday.

We have the Sydney derby on the Saturday and it would have been ideal to have this Melbourne derby played as the 5pm Saturday game.

But overall I totally agree with Sydney1987 that it is just stupid that Western United play home games in Geelong to begin with.

I disagree. lets imagine they find a few fans after 2 years in Geelong and they have 3,000 Geelong based members that stick fat by the time they move into Tarneit. and lets say they find another 2,000 in Ballarat (which has a larger football following than what many people may think). And imagine they find another 5,000 members based in the western suburbs of Melbourne. That'll give them more members than most other teams with huge potential for growth in a vastly growing region.

This immediately makes me think of the counter factual where they aren't able to properly engage any of those 3 distinct areas, they don't get traction in Geelong, they struggle to get sustained interest in Ballarat and by the time they move to Tarneit they are an established club meaning that it is harder to ignite new support for. Maybe I'm just being bitter and pessimistic, but I'm really struggling to back the thinking and business strategy behind any of what WU is doing
