I'm just waiting for more information on the signing of Yutaka Tahara...

Viddie dodged the question posed by the 5AA guys this afternoon. by saying that loan deals are normal in football [compared to AFL], and that was what Tahara was doing here. He mentioned that Tahara had come to Australia on his own financial backing, and that it contrasted to the club scouting in the UK last year.

Meanwhile, here is a video I stumbled across on Youtube with a montage of his goals since 2002:

IMO Tahara is exactly the type of player we need.

Hopefully he convinces Viddie and Stubbins to sign him for next year.

Agile, acrobatic, decent with the head and with either peg... if his general play is as good as that video, he can deal with the physicality here and you play to him correctly he could be a very good signing.

BTW, do us all a favour and get your team up and raring to shut up these cocky fucking queensland fans on Saturday, they're acting like they've actually won something or even qualified for asia once in their existence, it's time to release some harsh reality upon them.

Guys, apologies if its been mentioned before, but I thought I'd bring this to your attention if you haven't already seen/heard this.

Quote:
STRIKER Cristiano is tipped to walk away from the rest of his two-year deal with Adelaide United in a mutual agreement with Reds officials.

And fellow Brazilian Cassio has to front the Football Federation Australia's independent match review panel after he was red-carded in United's 0-4 loss to Melbourne Victory at the Telstra Dome.

Cassio will miss Saturday's preliminary final clash against Queensland Roar at Hindmarsh because of suspension.

The midfielder incurred the wrath of the FFA for making a gesture to the Dome crowd on his way to the tunnel. The outcome of the panel's inquiry will be released on Wednesday.

Adelaide will turn over at least 10 squad players by the start of the new season if Cristiano makes the move to Japan, China or South Korea to continue his career.

His pending move is set to free up Adelaide's new $2 million salary cap while United continues to track down a star striker for 2009-10.

Out-of-contract Gyawe Jonas Salley will head to China at the end of the season, with Adelaide also set to release striker Robert Younis for a trial and a potential loan deal with a Chinese Super League club.

Cristiano played in coach Aurelio Vidmar's lone-striker system for most of the season.

"(Last season) I played as a striker in a two-striker system (with Willem II)," Cristiano said when he arrived in Adelaide last year.

Cristiano was Adelaide's leading goalscorer in an A-League season when he bagged eight for United in the home-and-away series.

He won the goal of the tournament at the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan after a wonder strike in the fifth-place play-off against Egypt's Al Ahly.

His effort was also voted among FIFA's top-20 goals of world soccer last year.

Cristiano scored 51 goals in 176 appearances in Holland plus two UEFA Cup goals in six appearances.

Meanwhile, former J-League Kyoto Sanga striker Yutaka Tahara is pushing for a Reds' contract after undergoing a medical on Monday. Tahara will train with United this week.

Just so happens that the article is written by Val Migliaccio. Didn't Viddie hit out at him in his verbal spray?

I think we should hang on to him. I dont think he deserves a lot of the criticism he gets. He scored more goals from open play in the A-league that Smeltz, didn't get as much gametime, and wasn't his teams only avenue to goal. I know there is more to being a striker than scoring goals. But it is interesting considering one was the player of the season and one is constantly criticised.

And before anyone says it, I dont think Christiano is better than Smeltz

Cristiano is good as a pouncing striker. He takes opportunities created by others and makes the most of them. It's a shame that we don't have decent enough attacking midfielders to actually get the ball to him effectively. Hopefully with Tahara, we should try to work on the midfield as well, feeding the ball forward to him.

"The defence has been a shambles and you can't tell me there was no room for a player the quality of Costanzo," an insider said. "I believe the excuse was that his knees are gone, but he knows his body and he says he was fit enough to do a good job.

"The other thing is that there are some people putting the bullets in the gun and letting poor Viddy pull the trigger."

Defence a shambles? Other than vs MV it has been good - I wouldn't have thought than Ang would need to fix anything, other than him being better than Valkanis.

Ideally AUFC need to back Viddie, he is more important than the players (even if some of them don't agree) and cull the bad eggs and replace them with good eggs.

It will be a shame to lose Crisitano - but if we get a transfer fee for him or it is a loan deal I will be happy. Personally AUFc needs to have about 5 strikers on its books, or 4 and 3 out and out attacking mids. The salary cap doesn't really allow it though so if we can get 3 strikers & 2 attacking mids with a Marquee striker or playmaker that will help us next year.

Is there a trasncript of the 5AA interview available?

so fellow red supporters - any idea for the line up for the Roar game?

.............Galaka

Mullen...Costanzo...Ogga...Jamo

..............Reid

Dodd...Barbiero...Diego...Pantelis

............Cristiano

Bench
Cornflakes
Griffiths
Younis
Salley
Agostino
Alemao

If Costanzo plays the NYL grand final it will be Cornflakes next to Ogga.

Maybe Salley for Barbeiro.

Maybe Griffiths for Diego.

Well, you go away for a couple of weeks and the whole bloody thing blows up, eh? I've been on the other side of the world with very limited internet access and haven't been able to keep up with all the drama - hence I haven't blogged this week. Still, it seems everyone's been having plenty to say anyway - even Gaz of the GC has blogged on us this week. We should count how many Adelaide blogs have been written by other bloggers this year. :)

So, I missed a plane yesterday and have a day off and have found a connection that works a bit and have been reading all your comments. Useful thread this is for those of us needing to catch up quickly.

I didn't see the last game but I heard and even thousands of miles away I was gutted. But this week's a new one and we can beat the Roar. It'd be good to see Diego back in the team (I hope) at least for some time. If we put up a good fight and send Qld packing the confidence will build and the GF is just one game.....

It's such a bugger to read about all the politics. Stupid, childish behaviour from a bunch of players and admin people who should know better - and who should respect the team and the fans more than they've shown. People get left out of teams; players don't always agree with the coach; back-room money-men always know better. Get over it and remember that the whole Adelaide United dream is one built on the fans who care about the team. I can support a team that loses - even to Victory - but no-one's going to hang around if the whole thing self-destructs and the players don't show us that they care about the badge more than their egos. I don't give a shit who's causing the problems and I don't want to place blame anywhere. I just want to see (or read about) some players who go out there and play the best game they can - with heart and brain - for the people who pay their wages and spend the year hoping, hoping, hoping...

I think Qld are a good team and we'll do well to get past them. If we do I want to be back in Australia to enjoy us dismantling the Victory. No question they have the wood on us, no question they're playing the best football in the country, no question they're the odds on Champions. But this is football. Strange and beautiful game that it is.

Step at a time though. Viddie and the players brains back in the right place first. Get the tactics and the toughness right to beat the Roar. Set up a final where we can unroll a banner that says, "Adelaide United - Champions of Australia"

Everything that has happened says it can't be done. But it can.

Oh, and sign that Japanese man. He can find the net.

Go the mighty REDS!!!!

Does anyone thing they'll go to a 4-4-2 this week ??? OR possibly a 4-5-1 with Dodd able to go higher ???
I guess the result is all that matters so they may play it a safe with an attacking minded opposition.
Adelaide does play the counter attack well.
May the best team win ... I'll be there - look out for me - I'll have a red top on !!!!

lol its been a hell of a week

Ange and Diago are in - whiest I hate that those who are trying to undermind Viddie are still apart of the club I think we shouldnt cut our noses to spite our face. Besides whiest they are there its better to keep the peace - keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Once again Viddie is putting the club infront of himself.

Ive said this before and I will say it here - it took guts to say what he did, and hopefully it will shock everyone into action!

as for 4-4-2 well we did that last two games and look where it got us - we should get back to the formation that has won us games. no one gives a feck about the scoreline when you win a final.

hoope its a sellout - I certaintly will be there supporting Viddie and the boys!

Sorry to have been m.i.a. for the last few days, caught gastro from my son and have been having a 'great' time of it. Never had gastro before and never ever ever want to have it again.

Hopefully we can hold out QR and meet MV in the GF again, quite frankly I think we have needed to have Viddie get fired up - have been waiting for this all year.

We need to have Diego & Salley back in the team for finals. Salley especially has the right mindset for a final and is always willing to sacrifice his game for the betterment of the team. Barbiero is a good player but still hasn't learnt when he needs to just stop his opponent from having a good game.

The thing about football - the important thing about football - is its not just about football.

After all the club as done for the code in this state it disgust me to see people want to undermind AU. Ive been saying with my mates for weeks the club needed a good old fashioned rocket up the backside - Viddie has provided it.

Now can we transfer that onto the field is another question. We have a good record against them and hopefully that can continue. Jammo rolled his ankle and will test it today...who would replace him?

IF we meet MV we need somthing totaly out of the box to beat them! Any ideas?
