Adelaide United hope to lure Socceroos striker Mile Sterjovski

http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,25403031-5000940,00.html

Dont know whether anyone has seen this, as it is written by our old mate Val and doesn't have a single quote linking Sterjovski to us I'm calling bullshit.

It is total BS - I notice most of the player rumors we hear on the forums are printed by Val a day or two later....coincidence...methinks not

Milje was never suggested execpt from people on the forums saying he would be good to chase after

He isnt an out and out striker - THATS WHAT WE NEED!

Hope so - then Viddie can actually be able to buy players now!

But it proves what Val is like - Hes gone from taking about a layer to find owners to being close resolution in two days? Come on

What really happend IMHO is they had the lawyer to go through what I would like to call "the dotting i's and crossing t's" stage of any agreement but that wasnt sensational enough for Val!

things that stuck me in the artical...

  • They don't want anything to do with Makris...and thank christ for that!
  • A group of SA business people are being sort after...Great but do they have the finances to get a squad thats ACL standard/quality
  • If this local group all falls through, Mel Patzwald also has some German investors lined up....sweet!!

Vidmar and Veart take off on different missions

    Tuesday, 5 May 2009

Adelaide United Coach Aurelio Vidmar and Specialist Coach Carl Veart are heading away on separate missions but both hoping to return with favourable news for The Reds.

Vidmar leaves for Sydney today (Tuesday) to complete his Asian B coaching licence, while Veart has been sent by Vidmar and the club on a scouting mission to South America to check out a possible signing.

While Vidmar’s three weeks in Sydney will further enhance his coaching qualifications and credentials, and ultimately benefit The Reds’ on field management, it is Veart’s feedback from South America that United is highly anticipating.

Veart’s first stop will be in Chile to get a first hand look at an attacking midfielder and also hold discussions with the player that is under United’s microscope. The outcome of Veart’s investigation is set to go a long way to determining whether The Reds move to secure the foreigner in question, and another spot, on their list.

United currently has 16 players in its squad, of a maximum 23, and has room for another two foreigners to go alongside Brazilian trio Alemao, Cassio and Cristiano. For the 2009/10 season, the number of foreigners each club is allowed has increased by one to five, however the number of players and exactly which player Vidmar and Adelaide signs will be determined by the salary cap, the United boss confessing they were already nearing the cap.

“Maybe we can squeeze three, maybe four more players (on the roster) because of salary cap issues,” Vidmar said.

“The players we’re looking at are currently in season and they’re out of contract at the end of May and June,” Vidmar said on the club’s overseas prospects.

“There’s a couple of English boys that we’re still talking to so once again, until they give us a 100 per cent guarantee that they’re happy, we’ve got to continue moving forward.”

Veart departs for South America tomorrow morning and Reds Assistant Coach Phil Stubbins will take charge of preseason training until Vidmar returns on May 26.

AUFC being linked with Lloyd Owusu. Don't know anything about him, going by wikipedia he doesn't look to be anything to get excited about. However, he would at least match Agostino and Younis' combined goal tally for 08/09 though.

It is becoming more and more difficult to anticipate our new season. We are going to be going back into the ACL and no one appears interested in us, either players or investors. WTF is going on? I am sick of hearsay and maybes about AUFC the club needs to start coming out and letting everyone know what is going on. The secrecy is what is killing us at the moment. No news is bad news.

The thing about football - the important thing about football - is its not just about football.

Can see where your coming from would much prefer to be able to talk about something factual that was positive but hearsay and Val's rantings are all we have at the momment. Can understand why the club is keeping their collective mouths closed after the pissant saga though.

Vidmar did say they had been looking at players in England so maybe Owuso is one of these and there is some substance to the story. Or maybe he is the player Vidmar was talking about who agreed terms and then had something better come up.

I reckon Owusu would be great for us actually. Kicked 16 goals over 40 games in league 1 this year which is about the same standard as the A-League.

That's exactly the type of player we need.

Lloyd Owusu would be a decent enough signing for you guys - he's a big centre forward, which you need, who can still score goals often. As you guys have pointed out, even in recent times, he's been quite prolific, even though that was all League One football. But as has been said League One is not bad, compares wel to our league, for the moment.

Thanks your Majesty, nice vid. He's tall, strong and funny - how could we lose? Doesn't look quick but we have speed in the side. Obviously knows how to finish and the crowd would love him. Mind you, the crowd would love ANY new striker. Can't wait for some 'real' news from the club.

And, of course, the Sun is such a reputable paper......:-s

He would be a great addition and a good sign up

WE are offically with the FFA but I dont beleive it will be for long - someone came up with a great thory from another forum...

IF a businessman/group wanted to buy AU and he brought it off Bianco, he/theywould have to cover the debts left behind BUT if he/theybrought AU off the FFA he wouldnt have to as the FFA would of expunged(?) it like it did with the other clubs.

Its rumored that the debt is around 2mil as well as the condition FFA set with whoever wants to buy the club that they have at least 3mil to run the team with. That's 5 mil you need just to break even, so whats to say this buisnessman/group is waiting for AU to go to the FFA before buying it so they dont have to pay the debt.

    Smart business really

    Dear Friend,

As a valued friend of the Adelaide United Football Club, I wish to inform you of an important announcement that will shortly be made public. Club owners, Bianco Trade Supplies, today handed back its Hyundai A-League Licence and therefore ownership of AUFC, to the Football Federation Australia.

It is business as usual for the club and notwithstanding the transfer back to the FFA of the club’s licence, Adelaide United organisationally and people wise, is healthy and stable; and remains a strong, vital member of the A-League competition. Preparation for the 2009/2010 HAL season will carry on as usual, including day to day administration, football and financial operations.

The financial and personal contributions made by owner Nick Bianco and former chairman, Dario Fontanarosa are truly significant. They leave a legacy that will survive for years to come, in creating an intrinsically Adelaide entity that has set the benchmark in our still evolving national competition.

Full details will be announced tomorrow.

    Yours sincerely

Let's hope that someone comes on board who loves the club, loves football - and doesn't want to be hands on with the squad. We have a great manager and a great squad, both of which will only improve over the coming year.

Not that it'll matter, we'll still be there screaming for our team whatever happens.

Con and Ross Makris' wealth is estimated at $1B between them - they are the richest family/people in South Australia. More than this they seem to have had a long standing passion for our game, as demonstrated through their owning Adelaide Galaxy in SA's State League.

I know little outside of the above. So could leftrightout or any other South Australians that feel this way, please enlighten me as to why the Makris' being involved would be a bad thing?

Hmm found this article, dated 2004. Seems Con has had interest in investing in the A-League too.

    http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/01/31/1075340894113.html?from=storyrhs

Hmm on further reading - I see he also owns a Greek second tier club, Panahaiki, but since taking over has seen many managers through the turnstiles. Apparently, this is also the case with Adelaide Galaxy? I presume this is one reason why people may not be fans of the Makris idea?

Cheltenham forward Lloyd Owusu: Big Adelaide Utd crowds attractive
    09.05.09 | tribalfootball.com

Cheltenham forward Lloyd Owusu has confirmed he's mulling over a two-year contract offer from Adelaide United.

“I’ve spoken to Martin Allen (Cheltenham manager) and he was full of praise for me,” Owusu told The Argus. “He said he would like to keep me at Cheltenham if he could but the club may not be able to afford it.

“I've been offered a two-year deal by Adelaide, so that is something I am mulling over. Obviously it is far away but I have got to look at longevity now.

“They wanted me on trial originally but they have done their homework on me and now they want me to lead them forward.

“They are in the Asian Champions League next season, so that is a massive factor. If I did decide to go out there I would be playing in front of 40 to 50,000 people in Japan which would be nice, especially coming towards the end of my career.

"I don't want to be waiting until the end of June, when a lot of deals are done. I would rather strike while the iron is hot.

"A lot of players are being released now and a lot of clubs will be waiting until the last minute, so that they can try to get players on the cheap. I want to try and get something sorted."

Ah right, thanks for that guys.

Hmm I guess you guys are lucky the Adelaide United team was set up in the latter days of the NSL, so just largely carried over it's set up into the A-League? Because I'm surprise SA Richest man, who's also obviously into football, has not already been involved with the club, or tried to buy into the club? Pickard, Bianci and co must've kept him at bay?

Is there any idea when AU's kits are being released? I'm guessing it'll wait to see if you sign Owosu or whatever
