I had a look at the season ticket package earlier today. I definitely like the "Friday Night Shout" idea, especially since we have so many Friday night home games now. Time to advertise to my non-football mates to see if any of them wanna come along.
Meanwhile, where's a good place to catch the Qatar game this Saturday night? Apparently kick-off is 1:30am?

Adelaide United FC will hold a media conference at 10.00am tomorrow, Wednesday 3 June 2009 at Hindmarsh Stadium to announce two new player signings.
From the club just now. At last some real action. =d> Let's hope it's the big man (Lloyd) saying "yes".
If only I wasn't flying to Sydney in the morning at six I could have gone to see the first trial match and gone to the media conference! Damn. This might be the week to restart the blog....

I heard that United defeated Para Hills 1-0. No other details than that though.
Media conference at 10am tomorrow?? Too bad I have work... :( All signs do point to Owusu's signing, but I'm curious as to find out who the second signing would be. Surely it's not this Alvaro Pintos guy we've heard nothing about... :p
Meanwhile, new kit unveiling tomorrow as well?

Glad to hear the ticket price, I have budgeted enough for this season! The Friday night shout is a great initiative as well, have mates who should go to a game but don't... Are kids under 4 free? Might have to take my little man along to a few of the games this season... Hopefully the announcement is Lloyd and Francesco (he has been doing really well in the SL). I want the robot at Hindmarsh!

http://www.bigpondsport.com/news/tabid/ ... fault.aspx Wednesday, June 3, 2009 - 10:27 AM Source: ABC News Adelaide United has signed two of its young soccer players on A-League contracts. They are Youth League leading goal scorer Francesco Monterosso, 18, and attacking midfielder Joe Costa, 16. Monterosso scored 13 goals for United's youth team last season. Costa has gone through the South Australian Institute of Sport, playing 10 Youth League games. Costa looked lively at last nights game. I know a few people whom have played against him and with him and they say he can be unstoppable at times, and has good touch. Monterosso's youth league record speaks for itself. two good young players imo.

Here is a link with a press release: Reds sign local talent with focus on futureAdelaide United Wednesday June 3, 2009 Adelaide United FC has given an indication of its intentions on developing home grown talent with the signings of young local South Australian products Joseph Costa and Francesco Monterosso to the club’s senior list. The club’s move to secure the promising youngsters to the senior squad, each for two years, highlights The Reds’ philosophy to nurture and provide opportunities for home grown talent with a view towards the future. “We think that they have very bright futures, and although still very young, we think that within a couple of years we will be able to mould them into significant players at our club,” Reds Coach Aurelio Vidmar said on the duo. “This is another opportunity to bolster the squad and what better way to do that than by giving a couple of talented young South Australian players the opportunity.” Having spent the 2008/09 season under the guidance of Reds Youth Coach Joe Mullen in United’s youth squad, the duo have been training with the senior squad during the current preseason. Both played in The Reds’ trial match against local Super League club the Para Hills Knights at The Paddocks last night, United winning the game 1-0 courtesy of a first half Cristiano goal. Monterosso, 18, was the leading scorer in last season’s inaugural National Youth League with 13 goals from 19 appearances, which included a hat trick against Perth Glory. “He (Monterosso) is strong, he’s got a fantastic knack of scoring goals and in a way he’s a little bit like (former star NSL and Hyundai A-League striker) Damian Mori,” Vidmar said. “He’s not as quick as Damian but he certainly knows where the goals are.” On being offered a senior contract with The Reds, Monterosso admitted he was still finding it hard to come to grips with. “I’m still shocked about it to be honest,” Monterosso said. “It’s a privilege to be part of Adelaide United and hopefully I can take this opportunity.” Costa, who turns 17 next month, was not in Mullen’s initial Youth squad, however he was a regular train on player and eventually made his NYL debut, in which he scored his only goal for the season, in a 3-1 win against Melbourne Victory in Round Six. He ended up making nine appearances, including the NYL Grand Final. “We think Joe has got a big future, he’s someone who can read the play well, understands the game and has the ability to be a very good attacking midfielder for us,” Vidmar said. “He’s certainly a young kid that with three years work he can become a very good player for the club.” The Year 11 St Michaels College student has been playing for SASI this season and is highly regarded as one of Australia’s most promising up and coming players. “It feels very surreal but I’m very excited and looking forward to everything that’s coming my way,” Costa said on his signing. “This is what I’ve dreamt of and hopefully it’s just the start, I’m going to do everything I can at training and then the results can take care of themselves, but I’m just going to focus on playing football, which I love doing.” Monterosso and Costa’s elevation from the youth squad to the senior list follows the similar path of defender Michael Marrone, who was also rewarded with a senior contract earlier this year after an impressive inaugural season of the National Youth League. These latest two signings takes the number of players on United’s squad to 18. Adelaide United also hopes to receive confirmation in regards to securing the services of striker Lloyd Owusu in the next 24 hours, the English born former Ghana international will undergo a medical examination later this afternoon in Perth. Well, I've had a look through our home game fixture once more and have decided on my four "Friday Night Shout" tickets:
1) Round 4 - vs North Queensland Fury - Our only chance to beat Robbie Fowler's men at home.
2) Round 7 - vs Melbourne Victory - Our first Grand Final rematch, and our only home game against them this season.
3) Round 15 - vs Gold Coast United - Mid-season blockbuster against the other newest addition to our league.
4) Round 26 - vs Brisbane Roar - Final home match of the season.

Some more AUFC info, we have lost the Argentinian! Adelaide United coach Aurelio Vidmar sceptical about emulating last seasonRICHARD EARLE June 04, 2009 12:00am BATTERE in the transfer market and sporting the scars of ownership uncertainty, Adelaide United coach Aurelio Vidmar concedes it will be tough to emulate the Reds' 2008 success. Vidmar hopes to confirm Brighton and Hove Albion forward Lloyd Owusu will accept a two-year deal to bolster his attacking stocks. Regardless, United are destined to enter the 2009-2010 AFC Champions League and A-League campaigns without key additions they desired. The Reds have seen marquee striker Paul Agostino, popular midfielders Diego, Jonas Salley, Jason Spagnuolo and defensive stalwarts Sasa Ognenovski, Angelo Costanzo and Michael Valkanis depart their playing ranks. Reinforcements have been hard to come by in a cut-throat market dominated by cashed-up overseas clubs and A-League rivals with fatter wallets. "It's certainly going to be a challenge, there's no question about that," said Vidmar, when asked if United were capable of high achievement over the next 12 months. "I think there's going to be massive expectations after what we did last year, an ACL final and an A-League grand final. "It is going to be very difficult to achieve that again but we have to believe we will put a competitive squad out on to the pitch every week." United, so brave in reaching last season's Champions League and A-League deciders, face critical action ahead, both domestically and in Asia without the artillery provided by a marquee goal guru. Former 1860 Munich star Agostino has retired and Vidmar, deprived of the financial might of former owner Nick Bianco, has indicated there won't be a replacement, saying, "We might go without". "The marquee player is a very good thing but I also believe you need the right marquee player." Vidmar revealed a mystery Argentine marksman, playing in Chile, had been whisked away from United's clutches by a Mexican club last week. "We are still looking for an attacking-type player. We have had some great contacts with players overseas and one in Chile fell by the wayside last Friday. He went to Mexico for a lot more money," Vidmar lamented. Competition for recruits is also harsh on the home front for United which has so far attracted midfield hardman Adam Hughes, Sydney FC defender Iain Fyfe and promoted Michael Marrone, Francesco Monterosso and Joseph Costa from their youth set-up. "We have thrown all but the kitchen sink at a lot of players from the A-League and Aussies playing abroad. Unfortunately to fit their demands in the salary cap it would limit us in attracting other players to the club," Vidmar said. Adelaide are elated to lock in talented pair Monterosso and Costa but have lost gifted Osama Malik to North Queensland Fury. "Osama was presented with a contract but thought his opportunities were going to be greater at North Queensland," said Vidmar, of Malik who debuted in United's Club World Cup clash against Gamba Osaka last December.

Bad luck Adelaide. Cant blame him though. Alot of European leagues struggle to compete with the wages of the Mexican League.
Hope they continue with their efforts in Sth America.

Now Lloyd is an even more important signing... True. My best recomendation would be to look to Uruguay, Chile, Ecuador and Argentina(harder to compete with their marketability with the Serie A and LFP though). Wages wont be as high for a decent player compared with the level of quality of a player from Brazil, Mexico or Argentina's higher clubs.

Pity we can't afford that Chilean Striker from Uzbek side Bunyokor (Villarolla: Don't quote me on how to say his name) Not too sure if he is still with the club but Bunyokor are in the final 8 of this year's Asian Champions League so I guess I will have to have a look.

Definatley agree, I think AUFC needs to be looking for someone who is not going to be a star but someone who knows how to connect the midfield to the forwards. Diego (when he was fit...) did it, but no one else was really successful at it - other than Alemao on occasion. Really now AUFC has to finalise it's last two signings and then just bed down the team. I am realistic enough to think we wont set the league alight this year but I think we will be a contender once again.

Thats Villanueva, and it is a shame no one here can afford him. He is a very stylish footballer with a cannon right foot. Id still gamble on him as he is a wild traveller. he pretty much wants to play in as many exotic locations as possible bfore returning to Chile.

Take with cup of salt due to source but... Adelaide United to sign Owusu within hoursVAL MIGLIACCIO June 04, 2009 02: KEENLY-SOUGHT striker Lloyd Owusu is just hours away from becoming Adelaide United's latest signing. The Ghana international who recently had a stint with English League One club Brighton and Hove Albion is set to put pen to paper at Perth Airport before departing for London at 5pm tonight. Club officials told AdelaideNow that they're "waiting for the paperwork to come through" after Owusu was holidaying outside of Perth in a residence void of email or fax machine facilities. Owusu passed the medical in Perth yesterday and is expected to sign a two-year Reds deal.

Owusu has signed! Hooray!! What with him and Monterosso, I'm feeling a lot better about our goal scoring capabilities than last year. This is great news. We have a fine midfield. The defense could be excellent or scary depending on whether the young boys stand up. I doubt it'll be a stellar year but you just never know. I'm no longer scared though. With Cristiano and Lloyd up front and Monterosso on the bench, Cassio and Travis and/or Lucas sending in from the sides, Ried and Alamao and Hughes to cover the middle and plenty of good back-up players I think we'll be a handful once they start to gel. Happy days....:d
