That Aron Wilford guy was remarkably shit in the friendly against MetroStars a couple months back. Spent the whole time not knowing where to position himself with Galekovic barking orders at him like there was no tomorrow. Never heard from him since.

On another note for AUFC the Lady Reds are looking much better than last year, still don't know much about or NYL team though...

I'm very eager to see how our Youth League team shapes up... it is a shame that not much has been said about our youngsters lately. Michael De Bono is no longer on our site's roster... Dunno where he's disappeared to...

I saw on tribal football Adelaide are going to sign Adrian Madaschi, that is good addition if it is true.

Definitely a good signing if true. Haven't heard anything else about this though, and Tribal Football isn't really a reliable source... haha

Agree about Tribal football, but I also first heard they'd signed Sterjovski and Todd from there before it was in the papers so you never know.

http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,25844851-5006373,00.html

I know that was posted in the thread about it, just just posting it here too, to show the follow up - It's not just Tribal Football linking you to Madaschi.

Also, another article about the Marquee thing:

http://www.watoday.com.au/breaking-news-sport/adelaide-minus-aleague-marquee-player-20090728-dzyn.html

Quote:
Adelaide minus A-League marquee player

* Daniel Brettig
* July 28, 2009 - 3:54PM

Cash-strapped Adelaide United will start the 2009-10 A-League without a marquee player but coach Aurelio Vidmar holds out hope of finding one in time for his Asian campaign.

The Reds are likely to sign at least one more player before their first match on August 7 against Perth Glory, with sometime Socceroo Adrian Madaschi favoured to take on a role in the centre of defence.

However Vidmar ruled out the option of simply shifting his highest paid player into the marquee slot in order to free up funds for extra squad numbers.

He remains committed to finding the right face for the Adelaide club, currently owned by the FFA after longtime benefactor Nick Bianco gave up his stake in May.

"At this point there's no scope for a marquee player but I think we need it, not just our club but I think every club needs it," Vidmar told AAP on Tuesday.

"I still believe the right marquee player is someone who can bring something for you on the park and off the park."

Adelaide's tight financial situation, alongside an unsettled off-season in which director of football Michael Petrillo quit and was then re-hired, means the club is not best placed to go chasing.

Vidmar, though, is planning on securing a player of note in the new year, as the Reds attempt to contest the Asian Champions League for the third time after making an historic run to the final last year.

"There are salary cap issues, a lot of clubs put their highest paid player on marquee status to free up some money in the salary cap, so there's ways of manipulating the salary cap - some clubs have got the right marquee, some don't," he said.

"But personally I'd prefer we had a marquee player who was actually a marketable player.

"It gives us the opportunity if it doesn't happen this year to really study hard and look for the right options for next year.

"The option (of attracting a player for the ACL) is there and that's why we'll be having meetings over the next three or four weeks about planning forward for next season and also the ACL."

I'm just reminded - you guys have filled all your VISA spots. Shin could be a great signing and ontop of that he = your +1 in regards to the ACL's 3+1 rule.

I'm wondering, if you do seek/find a Marquee in time for the ACL, which VISA player will you be letting go? Owusu is a new arrival on a 2 year contract or whatever it is, so certainly not he (Knock on wood). Cassio you just re-signed a contract extension, beginning of this season and he's one of your key players, so unless an overseas club comes in with a tidy transfer offer, it shouldn't be him either.

Alemao or Cristiano. Most would presume Alemao, given he's only been a bit part player so far and would likely be the one to miss out for the ACL again, unless one of the others is injured. But with your new forward set up, Owusu coming in, Shin just behind in the hole nad Monterosso chomping at the bit, I'm wondering, Cristiano could easily be pushed out, especially if Viddie goes one up front again, or Cristiano suffers more injuries. And any Marquee would have to an attacking third player, probably an out and out striker in AU's case, so Cristiano, depending how he goes this season, especially in relation to Owusu, could well depart. Especially if looking at it another way - I can't see them retaining him if they brought in some Marquee striker, meaning Cristiano would become an expensive impact player off the bench.

The other defender on the hit-list was apparently one-time Sydney FC captain, Mark Rudan. IMO, he's a bit old... would rather have Madaschi, but apparently our salary cap is nearing its limit already.

If we get Adam we wont need rudan I think

Besides when we get to the ACL and we need another defender, dont forget Moore is looking to be loaned out to one of the teams in the ACL for gametime leading up to SA.

That will do for us

oh now that Owusu is out for 4 weeks of the regular game will we go back to our one up front or will we take the punt on monterosso. first part of the year where the pace isnt quite up there may be a great opportunity to give him some game time experiance

Even if we don't have Owusu in the squad, we have Dodd and Cassio who can double up as strikers, whilst the midfield is easily replaced with the guys we now have on-board. Monterosso is also definitely another addition - perhaps whilst Owusu is out, he'll get more time on the pitch to acquaint himself with the A-League standard. I'll be definitely looking forward to seeing Shin provide more assists and hopefully he'll score a few as well.

I'm with you, RU. That was perhaps the most lame and laughable attempt at crowd participation yet. A..U..get us a beer? A..U..sit down I can't see? As my brother politely pointed out, chants come from the crowd - they're not delivered to them. Best thing the club could do would be to go and talk to the boys who do scream themselves hoarse each week and learn the chants they use already and then let others know the words. Even video them and put it up on the screen. I know some of the words might not make it through the censors committee but....A...U..A..U!!! ](*,)
That said, it was good to see the cheer squad looking a bit beefed up last night. Kudos to the Glory mob who made it over but it was a shame they had so little to cheer.

Like what Timmo said in the match thread, I absolutely love the atmosphere given off by both the North and South end giving off some loud chanting and noise. The cowbells from the south-west corner was an awesome addition.

I was trying to get some of the Western stand people to make some noise, but to no avail...

EDIT: Oh and here's our final squad for the season, with where everyone plays:

Great game, I had the Japanese suporters with their drum just near me in the stands (I got to the game late :( ). It was bloody cold and was amazed we got 13,876(?) to the game! Hope we can keep that sort of crowd number. Really looking forward to Shin and Lloyd playing. Loved the fact that Alemao started, hope to see more of it - he is one of my favorites in the squad :D

It was definitely quite chilly on Friday night, but yet the crowds still turned out! Good signs. I'm also hoping that the Advertiser does more advertising (excuse the pun) of the matches on game day. As much as I hate to admit it, I'm pretty certain the big turnout was in part due to the front page coverage of the Reds on Friday's paper.

Good news for you guys....

Quote:
Adelaide United have ended a week of uncertainty by receiving clearances for new recruits Mark Rudan and Korean Shin.

The Reds were wrongfooted prior to their season-opening win over Perth Glory on Friday night by failing to secure a timely clearance for Shin, meaning he sat in the stands rather than on the substitutes' bench where manager Aurelio Vidmar had planned to employ him.

So they will be relieved to have received notification from Football Federation Australia about the arrival of the clearance from authorities in Korea.

Rudan's paperwork from Swiss club FC Vaduz was rather more straightforward, arriving less than a week after he signed on as the new hard man in the heart of the Adelaide defence.

However, Rudan remains unlikely to feature against his former club Sydney FC on Sunday due to his needing to build up at least another week of fitness.

Yeah I came across the news on the Adelaide United website. Good news indeed. Should be seeing Shin in action this weekend, methinks.
