It's having 2 kids that does it, and having to constantly pick my jaw off the floor reading some very weird and strange comments from GCU fans. loki: agree that the clubs are very well run and have avoided making stupid and insulting comments about other clubs in the media. As fans we almost have an obligation to ensure that we say what they cannot, but I think in general on this forum we still manage to manage it with humor and good taste - not sure about the GCU fans however.

Cassio walks out on Reds? Quote:
Brazilian striker Cassio has reportedly walked out on Adelaide United.
The 29-year old has decided to leave the club he joined in 2007 because he has had enough of the role Reds coach Aurelio Vidmar has been playing him in.
Cassio signed with Adelaide from Brazilian club Santa Cruz and scored just four goals in over 30 appearances for the Reds.

After having a run through of the second half again, I can safely say that we did a great job in keeping up the pressure against the Goldies which made them concede a slight amount of control. Hopefully the boys will take that as a positive to such a negative result for the team.
Who else was excited as I was when Owusu came on? :p

Mate, as I said in another thread: Breeze as referee was going to turn it into a farce. I cannot believe he missed 2 handballs right in front of his face and one of them was in the penalty box! Eugene got a yellow card for disent because he watched the slow mo replay on the big screen of the ball cannoning off the GCU defenders arm and yelled something at Breeze about it! Pants needs to be benched, he was once again below par - I couldn't believe it when he was at the top of the box instead of running onto the poor clearance he gave GCU space to get it up the park. Also I reckon he was the one 'marking' Smeltz when he got the rebound. In the 15 minutes Shin 2 played I decided he needed to start ahead of Pants. Owusu! How much of a roar did he get from the crowd when he came on! I just felt the blood rushing when he stepped onto the pitch, and he helped spark some life from AUFC. I want to see more of him! I think our first eleven needs to be: Owusu Cristiano Cassio - Shin 2 - Barbiero - Dodd/Alemao Reid/Hughes Jamo - Shin 1/Fyfe/Rudan - Marrone/Mullen Hugene A back three would be a risk, but how worth it would it be for some of the midfield we could put on and having 2! strikers up front (especially against teams like NQF, NJ, WP etc). I found a lot to like from AUFC's performance other than it pointed out to me that Pants is truely Pants and he needs to be dropped.

The Cassio story is very worrying. I know he wants the left back spot but I can't see why he'd be so unhappy - unless he's been offered very good money elsewhere. He's loved, played when he's fit and does brilliantly up the park. But it's been an unsettling off-season.
Yeah, Pants was pants too often. Owusu and Shin looked great. Hughes and Fyfye...!!!!
For me:
Hugene Marrone Flakes Mullen/Rudan Jamo
Reid
Dodd Barbs/Shin Cassio
Cristiano Owusu
With Owusu as the out-and-out front man and Cristiano working behind him to play him in or jogging slowly into poaching positions as the others flash around him.

I am finding Hughes very fustrating, but if he comes good (by even 10%) he could easily score goals. He has gotten into our best scoring positions but hasn't finished. Fyfe will be kept at least until Rudan can be used regularly. As for Gaz, well I don't even read his posts anymore as they are unpleasant.

Hughes talked himself up to be a box-to-box player, but so far, that's all he's shown he can do - run from box to box. He did have some very clear chances in the second half, but he blew them all.
Pantelis has been left behind in terms of skill these days. He cannot match it with the best in the A-League anymore, and that was very evident in the game on Friday night. He was MIA for most of the match, and when he did get a touch on the ball, there just didn't seem to be any killer instinct in it. Instead of going forwards, he would hold it back, think about it more, and then pass back to Jamo or Cornflakes to reset all over again.
Having Owusu and Shin on showed that we could actually do more with the ball up front. Shin still hasn't shown his full potential yet, but you can see he has good vision and will pass the ball into the feet of one of the guys making a run into the box. I'm glad we signed him up for a 2 year contract, as I believe next year will be his breakthrough year. Although it's still early days, I'd be pushing for an extension of his contract to see how good he really is once he's settled down into a professional environment.
Owusu. What more can you say? This guy is like a tower in the midst of our forward line. You can't miss him! He showed some ball smarts, and anticipated the ball movement more often than not. His partnership with Cristiano needs work, but I can see that with Cristiano's poaching abilities (which may also need work after being a lone striker for so long), Owusu can provide in that regard, whilst being able to score as well.
And it was good to finally see Mullen and Barbiero back on the field. Although you could tell that they weren't 100% fit, they sure as well did well the time they were on. Welcome back boys!
My lineup would be similar to the General's:
-----------Galekovic---------- --Mullen--Cornthwaite---Jamo-- ------------Reid-------------- --Dodd--Alemao--Shin--Cassio-- ----------Cristiano----------- -----------Owusu--------------
Bench: Marrone Barbiero Birighitti Fyfe
With this lineup, we can start off attacking, and then move into more of a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 formation as time goes on if needed.

If we can get Owusu and Cristiano on the park together we are going to be pretty potent. Owusu knows how to create space for other players, with him as the CF we are missing and Cristiano floating around the box along with the fast wide players we have we should be able to cause a lot of problems. GCU have a very good passing game in their front half. I think that by putting all the pressure on their back players it would put and end to their game play, they would then have to pump the ball long and I think most other teams in the HAL have stonger backlines than they do. Our next meeting with them I think will be a very different affair.

Meanwhile. on a completely different topic, any news on how our search for an owner is coming along? I've heard absolutely nothing, except for that rumour that News Corp. may be interested in a share. Sometimes I just wish Carlsberg would get on board as front of shirt sponsor though... For you Liverpool fans, you know what I'm talking about... :p

I have heard about absolutely nothing. I suspect that the FFA will be doing the same as most interim owners and be seeking to make the club as attractive an aquisition as possible. I would love to have Carlsberg as our front of shirt sponsor, that would be huge!

Coopers would look better! :) And tastes better.
RU, I forgot Alamao!! Can't believe I did that. Got to find him a starting spot. I'm not convinced by the three man back line though. Jamo looked lost.

Meanwhile this just in: Foxsports wrote:Adelaide United set to make announcement on Cassio's future
August 24, 2009
Adelaide United will make an announcement on Cassio's future this week after the Brazilian was ordered to stay at home during the Reds' 0-2 loss to Gold Coast United.
Reds officials on Sunday said "there should be an announcement sometime this week" on the Brazilian, who was denied the privilege of watching the loss from the club's corporate box at Hindmarsh.
Adelaide coach Vidmar and Cassio were apparently at loggerheads because of the Brazilian's role in the team before Friday's clash.
Vidmar said Cassio missed the Gold Coast clash because he was still suffering from the effects of the flu after the virus forced the Brazilian to miss Adelaide's 0-1 loss to Sydney eight days ago.
But sources close to Cassio said he was "fit" after playing 45 minutes in United's youth team against MetroStars at TK Shutter Reserve last Tuesday night.
Adelaide captain Travis Dodd confirmed Cassio and Vidmar had held talks after Adelaide's second consecutive loss.
"I wasn't in the meeting he had with Viddie (Vidmar). Cassio just said he didn't feel 100 per cent for the (Fury) game and he couldn't give it everything he had," Dodd said.
"He decided it wasn't best for him to play. And him not coming to the game, I'm not sure what happened there but I'm sure that was something that come down from the club."
"It would have been easy for him to pack up and go but he wants to stay."
It's believed Cassio's frustration reached boiling point late last week after the side was practising formations for last Friday's clash.
The Brazilian import was believed to be on the verge of walking out before a truce was reached.
Cassio addressed the playing group on Saturday outlining his version of events, Dodd added.
"Cassio explained the reasons why he wasn't available for the game and pretty much that was it," Dodd said.
"Obviously there's a lot of talk and rumours that he walked out on the club, which was untrue.
"He just got the boys together and told everyone himself."
Cassio wants to remain at the club despite speculation suggesting he's moving elsewhere before FIFA's current transfer window closes at midnight European time next Monday.
The affable Brazilian has put up his hand for selection in the North Queensland Fury clash at home on Friday.
However, it's understood Cassio could be heading to another A-League club in 2010 season if Adelaide allow him an early contract release. His Reds term is due to expire in 2011.
Cassio's puzzling omission from Friday's encounter was further compounded when Daniel Mullen (hamstring) made his season debut after a 45-minute hit-out against MetroStars. So to did Fabian Barbiero (osteitis pubis and quad).
The pair returned to senior football after an extended battle with long-term injuries while Cassio played for the entire 90 minutes in United's opening round.
Mark Rudan also featured in the youth clash but was omitted from United's senior squad and played in the youth team's 9-1 win over Northern Territory's under-20s on Friday night. I've seen on Twitter that the press-conference regarding Cassio's future will be held at 11:30am today. So keep an eye out.

As if the media in Adelaide will actually attend. Will be very unhappy if they release him, he is a big fan favorite. Plus he is well suited to the formations that we have seen AUFC play. He and Jamo have formed a great partnership, and he is much better than Jamo in the midfield.

I get the AU media releases. The news of this presser cam at 10:16am - less than an hour and a half notice. I think they'll go. Smell of blood in the water. I just hope he stays. great player and inspirational on the field. The way Jamo's been looking out of sorts maybe it's time to give Cassio back that left back spot for a week or two. Don't get me wrong, I love Jamo too but everyone needs a shake-up periodically and we all need Cassio.

Lloyd Owusu aims to bring down idolQuote:RICHARD EARLE August 24, 2009 12:00am CULT figure Lloyd Owusu wants Adelaide United to hang tough and get ruthless for Friday's critical clash with idol Robbie Fowler and his North Queensland Fury.
It was like a Messiah greeting his followers when Owusu was introduced in the 59th minute of Friday night's 0-2 loss to the awesome Gold Coast at Hindmarsh Stadium.
Owusu announced his arrival by cannoning into big Gold Coast stopper Michael Thwaite, then jump-started a meek Reds side with imposing endeavour through the air and on the ground.
"It was just a little thing to let him know I was about and he was in for a game," Owusu said of his confrontation with former Melbourne Victory championship defender Thwaite. "I watched the replay of the game and the fans were going a bit crazy when I came on so it was a nice welcome.
"I am a physical guy. That is what part of my game is about. That is my character. I play with a passion. I just want to win games and score goals."
Owusu, 32, was not supposed to feature for Adelaide until round four after recovering from swine flu.
But an insipid 60 minutes from a side rocked by Cassio's surprise withdrawal forced Reds boss Aurelio Vidmar to blood the striker.
"It was fair play to the coach; it was a situation where he had to take a risk with me and I guess I had to get game time somewhere," said Owusu, who replaced brave but underdone Daniel Mullen.
"I thought I would feel a little worse for wear but I have only had a bit of stiffness. I had a nice recovery session and am looking forward to getting back into it this week."
Owusu still could be a fortnight from full fitness, but cannot wait to take on Fowler and wooden-spoon favourite Fury.
He said: "He is one of my heroes. I always used to support Liverpool as a kid. Hopefully, I get to shake his hand - but in defeat to us."
Winning already is critical for the Reds, having lost consecutive games to Sydney FC and Miron Bleiberg's Coast. The Reds must find form with five of their first seven games at Hindmarsh Stadium.
"Back-to-back defeats isn't good for anyone," former Sheffield Wednesday and Reading striker Owusu said.
"We need to be a bit more physical and ruthless as a squad. We don't want anyone running all over us.
"We want to make sure we come back out now well against North Queensland on Friday."
Reds fans crave a target man in attack. Midfield turnovers and poor finishing in the final attacking third of the field now threaten to derail the 2009-10 season.
Owusu's presence will revitalise forward Cristiano, while the veteran found immediate chemistry with attacking midfield rookie Shin late in the game against Gold Coast.
"I try and help the youngsters coming through. Shin came on and was getting some nice touches," Owusu said.
"I think Cristiano has been dying to play off someone, so if we can get him through that will be good." I like Lloyd more and more!

Cassio vows to stick with Adelaide UnitedQuote:August 24, 2009 11:55am BREAKING NEWS: BRAZILIAN import Cassio has assured Adelaide United supporters he has no intention of leaving the club.
At a press conference today, Cassio said he had missed the weekend's game against Gold Coast due to "personal reasons".
He stressed that he had no issue with the Reds and intended to honour his contract, which is not due to expire until 2011.
The press conference came after speculation that the pocket rocket was on the verge of leaving the club over a conflict with coach Aurelio Vidmar.
