I Just noticed the Hungry Jacks sponsorship as well, I wonder what sponsorship package they have taken over?

What is the image of RU? I can't see imageshack from work... It's just the HJ logo on the sponsor panel on the right hand side of the AUFC website.

My big concern is that Hughes is going to start again. Why can't we drop him for Shin?

Pretty unlikely. For all the guff about CCM being boring, Sydney are just a counter attacking team like them. Attacking teams suit them because it gives their attackers the acres of space they need to be effective.
I hope Adelaide do a number on the smurfs tonight, just so we can get rid of some of these arrogant part-timer twats who seem to appear whenever their team is actually leading the comp and pretend to actually know shit about what goes on with other teams/the competition/Australian football in general. It's getting to the point where a team can't win a couple of games and be top of the ladder for a few weeks without 'taking football in this country to a new level'.
Fuck me it's annoying.
EDIT: Er, this was to unit's post.

It's not about how many posts you have, it's about actually watching matches that your team isn't involved in regularly before making sweeping claims about the comp. Sydney are a good technical counter attacking side, but they're not at the standard that Adelaide was playing at through the ACL last year, nor do they have the ability to work chances on the ground through ridiculously tight places which really only Melbourne from last season managed to do consistently.
They played well last week, but they only had 4 shots on target all night, there was an undeniable element of fortune (bad or good depending on which side you're looking from) in that 5 minute blitz and though their defence was tight we created enough decent chances to at least get 1 or 2 after that. They deserved a win, but it's just not some new gold standard in a-league play.

I know what you mean though, SFC & GCU (even PG to a smaller extent) have been having fans popping out of the woodwork making massive statements as though fact with out looking at the historical context of the HAL. I think overall the teams are more even, and this is due to all the teams in the comp raising to MV & AUFC's (and some of the other teams at certain points) general level of play. The dissapointing thing is our teams haven't risen at the same time. MV needs a new coach IMO to take the next step, AUFC needs an owner with vision to help us (Viddie should come good, and a new owner would accelerate that).

Not feeling down, I just find it weird (I'm a freaking Research Assistant so making claims without knowing what going on is kind of a pet hate).
The comp has risen in quality, our attack is up to it even with the massive losses we've suffered though and Fatty still seems to be the best CAM in the comp so i'm still not convinced at whether it has surpassed the quality of the top teams last year. I don't think we necessarily need a new coach so much as we need a new, younger Muscat and staring down the barrel of trying to find that is daunting. There's really no Australian overseas that compares at the moment in terms of being such a dominant personality.
I actually think, looking at his tenacity, that Jamieson will probably be the next Muscat style player for Australia (but he does need to work on his technique, first touch is too heavy too often). Which is a good thing for you guys, assuming he comes back to the reds after a stint overseas rather than joining Sydney like a right jerk.

I am amazed at how different MV is without Muscat in the side. Your team literally revolves around him - even though he is not usually the most influential (that is arguable I know) player in your team. Replacing him is going to be impossible for MV, so I think they are going to have to have a radical rethink in how their defence is going to opporate once he has retired. You are right, Jamo has the right on ground personality to mimic Muscats exploits. People have been very precious about Jamo's style of play (which is very good and fair) due to the way he runs his mouth. But he is a defender! He needs every edge he can get against his opponent, if he can distract 1 yard of pace or cause them to take an extra touch because of his presence then good on him. At the moment no one does it better than Muscat - and though we all love to hate him, it is because he is so bloody good at what he does!

I hope Cristiano gets a proper go tonight. I think with Owuso coming in he has been a little hard done by. In fact, from what I've seen, Cristiano does the lone striker thing better than Lloyd anyway. In any case, I'm really excited to see more of young Leckie. And I've tipped Adelaide ;)

Some of it comes down to the awful tactics we were playing before he came back though, which offered little support to the attack. Since he's been back we've been scoring more due to Hernandez playing more centrally but have still shipped 6 goals in 4 games, which really isn't good enough. I kind of wish a diamond midfield had been tried while he was away just to see how it would compare, defensively, to now. I think Berger and Sukha both on the left flank (Sukha in the midfield, Bergs at fullback) would be able to attack and defend extremely well and having Kemp on the right would allow the right mid to attack a bit more as well. That diamond formation made us look the most balanced we ever had imo. Just thought of an adequate replacement for Muscat in the form of Vinnie Grella, Vic boy, just turned 30... sure we might have to wait a season or two to get him but he'd be a solid addition to the team. Back on Jamieson, i've never actually had a problem with his attitude it's more the fact that he's been uncritically praised far too much in the media (and everywhere) for my liking. He's a great defender, and has a wonderful cross, but he really needs to work on a first touch that ranges from sublime to booting it into row Z to make it all click imo.

Muscat will be hard to replace but you are right - Grella will slip into his position nicely in a couple of years - if he doesnt go across town to the Heart. and you are right about some of the SFC boys on here - they dissappear when the going gets tough but are happy to jump back on board when there is some sign of success. SFC are playing some good football under Lavicka at the moment but its not the earth shattering standard that some on here would have you believe. It should be a good game tonight but with the formation change we might just snag the 3 points.

Lloyd might well suggest that if he'd been given any support he might have done well too. Did you notice that when Cristiano was subbed we went back into a defensive flat back 8 and nearly gave the game up for 20 mins or so. The Cassio and Lloyd got us home. Attacking intent is a great defensive mechanism! Edited by jessesdad: 17/10/2009 12:17:33 AM
