We need a playmaker. Full stop. Another running forward would be good (Brosque is looking the goods this year) and a decent centre half too. We do not need midfielders!! Be interesting to see who we keep.

By the way, have you had a look at the training photos KA put up?

Good for downloading images of your least favoyrite player for the office dart board. :)

haha look at the first photo that loads up from that link. It shows Fyfe grabbing his salami.

RedsUnited, I read that article on Eugene and i was blown away to see that he's worth $1.63 million! What a legend. And good him. He deserves every financial reward that comes his way. He IS the best. Hopefully by offering him 4 years, the club has intentions of making him Captain next season.

I know it sounded great, but I'm a born sceptic, when I read its official on the United website I'll believe it - don't forget this was written by Val in the Advertiser.

I really, really want Young to buy the club and new contracts for Alamao, Cristiano ( although I would like to see his ACL performance first ) Rudan and Cassio - maybe Dodd if he pulls his finger out.

Good Point General about Leckie out and playing Cristiano and Owusu. I was so fixed on the fact that Leckie was going to miss the game due to internal duty then having an injury that didnt even occur to me.

Knowing viddie he probably wont play 2 upfront, neither Llyod or Cristiano run as much as Leckie did.

Euguene signing for 4 years is a massive shock to me (a good shock) didnt think i would see a united player sign for that long. End of year need to cut the fat from the team (Pants, Fyfe, Dodd?, Sarkies?) and we should be right for next year. Hughes scoring that header has unfortunately secured his place in the team a bit longer i feel but at least he showed a glimmer of what he could be.

Got my fix of football tonight playing indoor against my mates team, should be fierce!, but doesnt compare to match day football at Hindmarsh although it numbs the addiction slightly.

Read in the rag about Shin2's impressions of training here - how it has been a pretty big culture shock for him etc. The thing that really surprised me was how he used to train 3 times a day in Korea and here he only does 1 training session. That he put on weight and has had to go on a stricter diet to compensate. No wonder he didn't seem as sharp for us as during the pre season, he obviously lost conditioning with the change in training regime. Maybe our pros should be using the same training system that he had as an amateur!

Dissapointed not to have seen play more often like Leckie has been. If we were sitting lower Viddie would be forced to make changes but luck has favoured us and kept us off the bottom.

Shin was an exciting prospect for me and I hope I dont have to wait for the ACL to see him play again.

In the couple of chances Viddie has given Shin he has seemed a bit lost.

Maybe he just needs a full half to show what he can do?

Having said that when Leckie got 10 minutes of game time he impressed from the word go.

I cant help but Shin may be a little out of his depth but i am more than happy to be proven wrong.

He has said that playing in the NYL has been good for him and his game, allowed him to get used to how we play - maybe we will start to see him as the season progresses as he finds his feet in NYL.

I agree 100% BU
Shin has looked lost everytime except in the pre-season against Perth, but I imagine Dave Mitchell had told his players to not go in hard ( injury with his squad before the season probably would have cost Mitch dearly )

I, too, hope I'm wrong and hope that Shin has got the gist of the game here.
Of course all this hinges on Viddie playing him, though I'm sure he passes better than Hughes!

It's absolutely impossible to pass judgment on Shin so far, he hasn't had more than 5 minutes to do anything. I think the biggest thing our team lacks is any creativity whatsoever, so if we're going to go back to a 4-2-3-1 or similar, I think we could do a lot worse than chuck Shin in the middle of the "3", and see if he can create something. It would only take 1 or 2 moments of inspiration to make a big, big difference.

Too bloody right, although he has looked lost he has a good touch on him and can pass the ball - none of our trade mark first touch into the bleechers from him!

Not only can he pass but he actually looks to pass. That's unusual. Not the Fyfe/Flakes style of 'I'm 30 metres from anyone, i'll have a look for an option, no there isn't one, I think I'll lump it up onto Lloyd's head' style of looking to pass. Shin tries to make passes when he's running and he spots a half-good option out of the corner of his eye. Sometimes they fail and he hasn't been convincing but he does offer an aspect of play that we are SORELY missing. He's worth a half. A first half. See how it goes. Could he be worse than Hughes?

Will it happen? No.

At least we have Mullen and Cassio back this week. So, I think it'll be...

Hugene (with an "H')

Mullen Flakes Rudan Jamo

Sarkies Hughes (Don't ask me why)

Dodd Barbiero Cassio

Owusu

I hope to be wrong but history is on my side. :)

Edit: Oops, I hope it'll be Mullen but it'll probably be Fyfe. Could be Cristiano before Owusu but this week I think Lloyd will get the nod.

I might just try and join you guys too, if my mates don't drag me back to the western grandstand.

On the issue of Shin, I am still a big fan of him (picture on Wikipedia courtesy of yours truly after the preseason game against Perth). I know he has the potential to be our creative playmaker a bit forward of the centre of the park, but so far, if we can blood him well in the Youth League, I'll be happy with the end results.

We all know Pantelis and Fyfe will start - that's Vidmar's idea of stability in the squad. We're playing at home - I'd throw in Barbiero, Mullen, Owusu and Cristiano all at once. Stick Monterosso on the bench in case we need to replace either striker in the 2nd.

My formation with the current availability (on FIFA10):

Galekovic
Mullen -- Rudan -- Cornthwaite -- Cassio
Sarkies
Barbiero -- Jamieson
Dodd
Owusu -- Cristiano

Simple. Stick Hughes, Pantelis and Fyfe on the bench if you must.

I LIKE it!
However, Viddie will probably have Pantelis and Hughes starting - I'm going with Stephen's history theory ( cross everything and hope I'm wrong. )

I wonder if Viddie reads this stuff, or if he stays focused on his own decisions?

That is a nice line up :d

It would be good to see you RU, at least your mates are regulars at the games! Mine tend to pick and choose, or have work commitments which stop them going.

The line up by Val (I feel so dirty :-& ) has Dodd and Cristiano as strikers, a midfield of Barbs, Sarkies, Hughes and someone else #-o (should have brought the paper to work!), with the usual suspects in defence. I am not so sure we are going to see 4-4-2 myself, and Pants not starting? When available? Something fishy is going on...

Reid back in a week they say. If you believe it.

I'd say 10-11000 tonight. Hoping for more.

General, I think there have been signs that Viddie may have worked out that Pants isn't a starter. He may be getting the dreaded 'impact' player tag.

If we start with 4-4-2 I'll bet we have an injury or send-off inside 10 minutes so we can revert!

Think your right about Pantellis or at least im hoping. When it comes down to it though Pantellis has always been an impact player, can score and set up goals but never does it consistent enough.

Managed to get an extra 2 mates to come tonight so will be cheering from the Northern Stand. Would be dissapointed with anthing less than 10k at the ground tonight.

In the absence of leckie i fear a 4-5-1 (or 4-2-3-1) formation will return with Llyody/Cristiano isolated upfront.

Previous results are on our side and would sugges a win or draw, but it really depends which AUFC turns up tonight and how many minutes we actually play for; Im hoping for at least a half of really good football but do I expect too much?
