If we miss out it'll be our own fault. Hopefully there'll be no whinging. We still have a good enough squad to make the finals if we get it fixed. And this year is so damn unpredictable that we might finish second behind Newcastle!
But I doubt it.

But I doubt it. We do have time to turn the season around and get back on track but I just cant see it happening. Although..if we get Reid and Leckie back into the starting line up - and the midfield starting line up settled on - we may just come good. Trying to be optimistic like you mate.:)

I hate sounding this uncouth but this is what has happened to me over the course of this season. I think Alemao’s attitude stinks. He jogs around, never puts in for a tackle and spent so much time hiding between players as far out on the wing, away from play as he could on Friday night I forgot he was out there for the middle third of the game at least. Still, pretty much everyone went missing during that time. He was brought in as a right full back but was found out in his first few games as he never tracked his man and was always caught drifting aimlessly between positions. This is why it has been hard for him to be a regular starter because he couldn’t play the position we bought him to play, so has spent a year (+) being reinvented with varying success. Alemao rant is now over because he still wasn’t/isn’t one of our worst.
I fully concur with you. Alemao lacks any urgency or desperation in his game. A perfect example was against Sydney. We were with 10 men desperately trying to hold onto our lead. When Alemao came on i noticed his whole attitude was very lax. He never tracked his man. And when he broke out into a pace he ran with his head down!

I've been going to the Reds games since round 1 season 1 and don't remember ever feeling as frustrated as I do right now about the team.
All the potential is there.
On paper the team is a contender.
I firmly believe that the only thing standing between our current drop in form and success is Vidmar making a couple of tough decisions on team selection.
The success is still there - you can feel it.
Viddie - please make the tough calls and turn our season around.
Play two strikers up front. Drop Hughes. Drop Pantelis. Build the midfield around Reid and Sarkies.

At this rate we may be releasing all three of our Brazilians at the end of the season. Cassio is the one who will most likely stay, but Cristiano and Alemao have fallen off dramatically. I am a big fan of Cristiano as I've said many times over, but he needs to put more effort in. And Alemao, he's tried to fit in ever since his shafting from most games last season, but still can't seem to do anything in the forward positions he gets slotted in.
The funny thing I have started noticing is that even our overage players who get stints in the Youth League are doing absolutely shit at the moment. Monterosso tends to run forward on the end of balls, but is no where as potent as he was last year - anyone else remember that he was the Youth League leading goal-scorer last season? Shin is still lost - he plays the full 90 minutes, and when he gets the ball in tight situations tends to turn it over. There is hope though, as when he gets the ball with space, he will run towards goal with it and out manouevre a lot of the opposition, but he doesn't pass it off to supporting players! He keeps running until he hits the brick wall of 4 defenders.
I'm starting to think it might be the senior squad's training that is limiting their striking potential...

Yep i agree. And then you read how Petrillo has flown to Argentina to try and sign one Marcos Flores... another international to our playing roster, and then you know that some other South American will get the chop. Can't AU keep this shit out of the press? Really makes me wonder.

We flew him half way round the bloody world, handed him a contract, just to play in our junior team?? I don't get it. Has AU gone completely mad? Give the guy a full half. And then give him another half the week after. Oops sorry, we make subsitututions at the 61st and 70th minute every week. PREDICTABLE! Therefore you can't give him a full half can you. There aren't many As. \ Good idea - I hope you don't mind me pre-empting... I'll be interested to see where we have similar/divergent opinions. 1. Galekovic. A-. Has predominantly been brilliant, and made some excellent saves, but has also been found wanting a few times which prevent him from getting the full A/A+. Nick Ward's cross/shot springs to mind, and although they weren't his fault, a keeper on top form might have done better with Sikora and Song's strikes. Hasn't cost any goals, but his handling below his knees has also been a bit dodgy this season. 2. Cornthwaite. A-. Has improved out of sight. Needs to get a left foot though. 3. Alemao. B-. Looks trimmer this season but still has trouble with the pace of the A-League. Started the season well but has faded, and just cannot make any position his own. 4. Fyfe. B. Was ok at centre back earlier in the season, but only ok. Has been outstanding defensively at right back, but has no tricks going forward. Not his fault he's being played out of position, but then again he didn't make his preferred position his own. 5. Mullen. D. Has had a bit of a rough season between injury, going to the U20 World Cup, and has consequently lost his spot in the pecking order. Confident he'll bounce back if he gets a run of games. 6. Cassio. C. Has obviously fallen out with Vidmar, which is frustrating as he has still been pretty good when he's been on the pitch. When you can't score from open play, leaving someone who can hit a dead ball like Cassio did against CCM on the bench is bordering on negligent. 7. Pantelis. C+. Grade is improved by virtue of the fact he's scored a few goals. Admittedly, the one in Townsville (NQF play in Townsville right?) was a cracker. But other than his goals, he has spent far too much time waving his arms around and complaining about not being captain, and not enough time doing anything. The most infuriating thing I've seen this season was him throwing his arms up late on Friday night when Cassio didn't play him in. If he'd continued his run rather than having a whinge, he could have still got on the end of a tap in. 8. Sarkies. A+. Who knew? Put in a position where all he needs to be is neat and tidy, he has really excelled. Has showed a lot more commitment than previously as well. Has been our best player in almost every game I've watched him play this season. 9. Cristiano. C-. Did nothing and looked like he didn't care. Came back, tried for a game, scored 2 goals. Then did nothing and looked like he didn't care. Missed a sitter. 10. Hughes. EF (Epic Fail). I was at a wedding the night of the Victory game, but when I heard he scored my heart sank more than anything else because I knew he'd bought himself another 6 weeks in the first 11. Here's a funny anecdote - I didn't make it on Friday night, and didn't watch any of the pre-game stuff, just turned it on for kick off. So I never saw the starting lineups. About 10 minutes in, I thought to myself that it was strange that Barbs was on the left, but at least Hughes wasn't playing. No joke. 11. Owusu. C-. It hasn't quite happened for him, but I'm certain this guy can be a good player in this league. Playing in a system that doesn't suit him at all he's scored one goal and I don't reckon there's been an unluckier striker in the league this season. Just offhand, he was denied by a freak save by Velaphi, he's had one or two efforts cleared off the line, that header against Newcastle maybe bounced over the bar, he had a pretty well taken penalty saved... Not as bad as everyone's made out. 12. Reid. B. Would be much higher if he'd played more than a couple of games. Don't realise how good he is until he's not there. 13. Dodd. C-. He's trying hard, but too much falls onto his shoulders. Quite often the only one trying to make anything happen. Having a shocking confidence crisis in front of goals. Needs one to go in off his arse, and I think his form as a whole might pick up. 14. Jamieson. C+. Has been great in a few games, but insipid in several more. Needs to shut up and focus on playing the game. 15. Monterosso. No rating. Would like to see him get a game. 16. Shin. No rating. See Monterosso. 17. Marrone. B. Looked good early in the season before being cut down by injury. Haven't heard boo about him since, surely he should be close to being back by now? 18. Barbiero. D+. Good player, much better than this rating, but it's been a tough season for Fabs. Injury ruined the early part, looked good for 10 mins against Sydney before sacrificing himself. Shoehorned on the left against Brisbane, God only knows why, but tried hard anyway. Stick him in the middle of the park - his mixture of tough tackling, neat and creative passing, work rate and ability to shoot from range - it's a no brainer. 19. Leckie. B+. Gave the team a massive spark in his sub appearances early, and scored a great goal, but hasn't quite had the same impact since starting. Always looks like making something happen. 20. Birighitti. No rating. Very good at the crossbar challenge when kicking about at half time. Seriously. Watch him next time you're at Hindmarsh. It's worth the admission price alone - and it needs to be, God knows nothing else that goes on there is worth it. 21. Rudan. A. Had a horrendous debut, and was exposed a couple of times on Friday, but has otherwise been absolutely immense. 23. Costa. No rating. Got into nice areas in his sub appearance against Perth. Hopefully he makes a successful return from injury, he must have something about him to get signed as a 16 year old. Are you after my job? Couldn't you wait a day and comment on the blog? We bloggers have egos you know and it matters to us what number of hits we get. It's not like we get paid. Geez, it's hard enough dealing with the fact Gaz outpolls us by millions each week and trying not to go down the road of hyperbole and provocation without our own forumites doing us in. I'm only half serious by the way but I'm definitely not commenting on your marks until the blog goes up! :)

But it's a known fact that black is slimming!
The medicos are just trying to come to grips with the psychology of colour.

For my money Stephen writes the best blogs on this site - and I read most of the blogs each week. Gaz is good but supports the wrong team. ;)
Anyway, it wouldnt hurt to have another AU blogger on here. Brenton only pops in every now and again so another blog for us to sink our teeth into would be great.
Personally, I think both abignumber and redeyerob should apply to Mr Airs to get the job.

I've got a soft spot for moon boots, when I was in year 12 a guy in the first 18 footy team broke his ankle the week before our big Friday night trophy game at Unley Oval, and I got his spot in the team (we won by 5 points). To this day every time I see a moon boot it reminds me of that and makes me smile. Is that bad? At least you match our away strip Stephen. Hope you make a speedy recovery. And yes, swotvac. You guys only have to put up with me for 2 more days and then I'll be too drunk to care or even notice what AUFC do. I think that this time of year heightens my emotional state because there is so little to look forward to that an AU game gives me a reason for living - so when said game turns out like Friday night...

Bit suprised about all the Alemao negativity, yes he isn't that quick and doesnt track back well but what brazillian in the A-League does that well. You get a brazillian for a reason and that is for creativity and ball skills which Alemao does better than Crisitano and as well as Cassio. It is hard to remember how many full games Alemao has played, I would guess at only a handful he has been used mostly as a late sub (The Vidmar Special) would like to see him start a few games in a row in the midfield somewhere (CM/RM/AM) to see how he goes.
If you want a player to defend better than Alemao I wouldnt be looking for an average Brazillian player find a local player eg Marrone/Mullen who would have more determination. But if you want a more creative player with skills you need players like Cassio and Alemao.
JD I will be looking out for your blog to see your player ratings. We all post up our preferred formations and best/worst performers but dont rate the entire team very often so the quiet acheivers dont get mentioned often.
And on the moonboot call, my mate and I used to call Sarkies "moonboot" as he always seemed to be injured.

Does anyone know if Reid and Leckie will be back for the Gold Coast game?
If they are, potentially we could put up the same starting side we did against SFC when we actaully played like the Reds we know and love.
With the two week break hopefully they can be fit in time for this game.[-o<
By the way, I just got posted two free tickets for the Gold Coast game from Fox Sports - somehow I managed to get the best result in the Adelaide United league for round 13 in the fox fantasy league. :d

For goals, just bank on LloydVal Migliaccio wrote:LLOYD Owusu has refuted suggestions the A-League is a graveyard for foreign strikers.
The English-born Ghanaian international admitted his one goal from seven starts for Adelaide United was not ideal.
His maiden goal - a trademark header - arrived 33 minutes after Owusu made his run-on debut for United in a 3-3 draw with North Queensland Fury back in September.
Since then the goals have dried up with many near misses, plus a parried penalty kick in the Reds 0-2 loss to Brisbane Roar on Friday at Hindmarsh.
Owusu, however, said the goals will come once he proves again to coach Aurelio Vidmar he is worthy of winning a starting berth for the struggling Reds.
"The football has been up and down and that has been frustrating," Owusu said.
"At the end of the day, I've just got to keep positive.
"Hopefully, the second half of the season, we can kick on as a team."
Owusu's goals record in England speaks for itself. He spent 12 years on the pro football circuit, grinding out a living with some of the country's toughest clubs in the most ferocious leagues.
He bagged 119 goals in 383 games - an average of a goal in 3.2 matches.
Those are superb statistics for a target-man up front.
Owusu said it was hard to adjust to Adelaide's style of play.
That was much more tactical than he had been used to after playing for nine clubs in England which included stints in the Championship, League One and a season spell in League Two.
"It just hasn't fallen for me (with Adelaide)," he said.
"My stats don't lie, I believe I can do that (score goals) if I get the opportunities.
"Then again it's all about supply.
"The culture is a little bit different over here."
Owusu missed much of the pre-season conditioning after he contracted swine flu and pneumonia in July.
He now is close to full fitness and was grateful United had changed its game plan to accommodate twin strikers.
Owusu, however, has not had the chance to work the system from the start of any matches since the coaching staff opted for the revised twin-striker option.
Owusu and Adelaide's other notable goalscorer Cristiano - who has scored an average of a goal every three games in the Netherlands and Switzerland before joining United in July last year - haven't experienced the new system in tandem on the park.
Owusu and Cristiano have started one match together - the 1-1 draw with Wellington Phoenix in September when Adelaide was using the one striker 4-2-3-1 system.
"Hopefully, I get a chance to try in the two (striker system)," Owusu said.
"We played with one up front for the first seven or eight games and all of a sudden we go for two.
"I've just got to maintain my focus and my self-belief.
"If the coaches let me back in the team, I've got to try and repay them."

:d You lucky, lucky......!! Well in, Unit. But you're obviously not picking many of our players!! [-x  I've been in the top 50-60 of the AU Foxtel League all season (nearly) but I'm carrying too many Reds just out of sympathy. By the way, I've sent a couple of suggestions off to KA to ask about getting some time with Viddie. You found me out Stephen. As far as Reds players in my team this year, its really only been Alemao in the hope he would both assist a goal and keep a clean sheet - and flirtations with the bargain buy Leckie in the last few games. Good work with putting the request in to KA - I will be very interested to see what he can do to score an exclusive interview with Viddie. It will definitely bring in a lot of punters from other sites. As for the question you asked about the best interview option - i think the more realistic option would be for all us 442 guys to put all the questions to you and you then interview him face to face on our behalf. Not sure if this has been put up anywhere but did anyone see's todays Advertiser. Val rated each Reds player.
What a joke.](*,) ](*,) ](*,)
Does this guy even realise there is an Adelaide United website that has the player stats?
He gives Michael Marrone a "N/A". Why? Beacuse 'he hasnt featured this season'. WTF??? One look at the official website shows that he has played 6 games - 4 of them starts - 482 minutes of game time.
Lets compare that with Monterosso. The guy gets a rating of 5. Yes a 5. One point less than Barbiero. One point less than Paul Reid. One point less than Cassio. and how many minutes of games time has Monterosso played to get this rating?? - a huge 20 mins over 2 games.
Boy doesnt take much to get a 5 star rating Val.
