+xThe price of coal dropped 30% in 2019 in the face of an "unexpected" drop of 3% of coal power generation. And it's now expected to drop further, both price and usage. So you can build all the coal power stations you want, but the question is - who's gonna dig it up for you? So whether you believe in climate change or not, you better want your gov to get on the right train. Because one's leaving the station and the others stuck in it. The price of matches probably hasn't dropped with 2 people being charged with lighting bush fires. Vandalism trumping again

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jShMQw2H2cMI don't get pissed that often these days, but when I do I sometimes mull over some of life's worst decisions: Narara '84 (the second one). I passed up seeing this band on the Sat night as I decided to drop a trip and wallow in the urine and sh.t filled mudpool drinking $2 moselle with the rest of the bogans. "Some f***in' weird American new wave band " I thought. Somebody should have slapped me. One of my greatest regrets because I NEVER got to see them live after that. So............drugs are bad m'kay. On another note, Justin Beiber once left his audience waiting for 2 hrs because he was playing Call Of Duty on XBOX in his hotel such was hit brat contempt for them. Click the link and behold a band that adores an audience.

The movie that clip is from is "Stop Making Sense" widely regarded as in the top 2-3 Concert movies ever made (Last Waltz usually grabs #1). It was filmed over 4 nights in Dec '83 and released to cinema April '84.
Narara '84 was in late Jan '84.
Soooooooooooooo...... the set for the concert that I missed because I decided to literally wallow on the banks of an open sewer while having a rather mediocre trip with a $2 per litre moselle was in every likely hood THAT F***ING SET!
I deserved to drown in that putrid pool of urine and sh.t.

There was a comedy album out years ago by the HeebeeGeebees in which they imitated (quite well too) a bunch of singers included... was a medley with Neil Dung/ Bob Vylan/ The Bland....I thought how well named..../ Leonard Crowin'/ George Harrising/ Frank Sumatra/ Dean Martian/ Thee Heebeegeebees (Bee Gees) ...love it!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByAnJw6xpew

+xNot wanting to rub it in, but looks a hell of a show... Zef would've been better off wandering away to get on the cheap plonk the following day when "The Expression" were on. I remember seeing Jethro Tull in Syd around that time & TE were the opening support act. They didn't go down well at all with the Tull crowd & copped bad flak in reviews etc ever since. As for Narara, closest I ever was to the place was next door at Old Sydney Town...

+xDoesn't "Woodstock" count? Not even a little bit. It may have been a hell of a gig but it looked and sounded like it was filmed on home video. What sets The Last Waltz and Stop Making Sense apart was that were filmed by genuine film makers. Martin Scorcese the former and Jonathon Demme (of Silence Of The Lambs fame) the latter. Stop Making Sense - you won't see a single lazy camera or crew anywhere in shot, and it was also the first "concert footage" captured in digital audio. Which is why it sounds as if it was recorded yesterday. Another thing unique about it - it opens to a completely empty stage, absolutely nothing on it. David Byrne wanders out with an acoustic guitar and cassette player and says "Id like to play you a tape" and does Pshyco Killer with guitar and a drum beat (supposedly supplied by the cassette tape but in reality by a drum machine off-stage). Subsequently, the other band members join one by one per song along with the set being assembled around them (drum kit, organs and all the rest) as they are playing. It's not until 5 songs in when they bring down the house with Burning Down The House that the whole band, and set, are on stage. It's really one of them films I put in the "must see" category if you're any kind of film buff. OK, if you don't like their music I can understand because I wouldn't sit through 90 mins of Justin Beiber no matter how well it was filmed and performed either. But even if you've ever only had a a passing "they're not bad" sort of interest in Talking Heads it's really a MUST watch. A blend of a film maker who knew what he wanted to capture and brought the expertise to do so and a band who believed they were in more than the music business - they were in the performance art business. It is exuberant.

+xBloody awful... Is never the answer... Awful indeed. It worries me that this continual "disadvantage" card played by aboriginal and indigenous people just breeds misery. I feel as though if this kid was surrounded by non aboriginals, he may have had a more positive outlook and may not have done what he did. Now, all we will hear is the high incidence of aboriginal suicides rates..... This kids life is now wasted. I just hope others don't fall into the same surrounds and follow.

+x“Cricket great calls for massive change”... Michael Vaughn calls for 4 day tests... “Cricket great”... bwahahahahaha... It's not Michael Vaughan, it's The ICC - mandatory from 2023 onwards so ma genuine real Test Championship can be scheduled. I told you's this was gonna happen and it's gonna happen. It just works on so many levels for scheduling which is what's gonna keep Test Cricket alive and in fact growing. My only argument is the proposed 98 over days, which will lose 58 overs. Which in of itself I don't think is so bad really, but I just think they can fit in 105 overs - which is an extra hours play and only 30 overs are lost. Start the day a bit early, 35 over sessions (2 hr 20 mins?) and 20 mins between sessions just for a sh.t and shower. 40 min lunch breaks are a waste of time anyway, they don't sit down to a buffet. Sure it's a longer day but...... THIS IS TEST CRICKET! It's not supposed to be comfortable, and you got the 5th day off now. It's happening.

Most of the intrigue & fascination with test cricket is the stats & records being broken. It has been since it all started. If they decide a test match is less than 5 days, then it's virtually dead. Most people would lose interest because it would never be the same & they may as well dress players as clowns & play 20/20 for all anyone could give a shyte. Doing it in addition to real 5 day tests, is another story, but screwing up the real thing permanently & everywhere....is daft to me so I hope they don't.

Tests are permanently remembered and recalled. Big bash and other forms of 20/20 cricket may be entertaining but nobody really gives a schit about any of these games once they are over.

Do we start on a day two pitch and take the advantage away from the quicks, or do we start on a day one pitch and take the advantage away from the spinners... i have no doubt this is an agenda being driven by scum of the earth batsmen... ;)

The agenda is a simple one, there's no hidden ones there - it's simple to cement the future of Test Cricket, tied into a World Championship for which players to aspire, lesser nations to aspire to qualify.
History is all well and good but most of those stats you talk about were set with a lot less playing nations. remember the Don's record was set 90% v England in Australia or England so how can you venerate records and stats as the defining argument anyway when none of them really compare from decade to decade?
We want more nations playing REGULAR Test cricket and against the top sides. This is no more to ensure the future of Aus v Eng Tests as it's also to open a window for Aus v Kenya Tests too.
In the article I read on this it stated that in this calendar year alone 4 day Tests would have freed up 300 and something (almost a year) days in the international schedule.
It's more important than history, or tradition. It's about Tests fitting and indeed growing in the next century.
Look deeper.

And if we're hung up on records and pitch preparations what about day/night Tests?
I'd argue they're a bigger change to traditional Test Cricket as a 4 Day Test would be. For a start they use a different ball, and secondly a few seasons in we now know teams will tactically try to avoid batting at twilight. - and is that a detriment to the game, players having to adapt to the twilight zone? Is that not another variable like a green pitch or cracks on day 5 that test players have to learn to play through?
Remember cricket's not a fair game by design, it gives one team an unfair advantage at the toss and the test is how both teams cope with that.
Should Dave Warner's triple have an asterisk next to it because it was from a night Test. How will you compare it to Clarke or Tubby's triple?

So minus 1 day per test???... i could be wrong, often am, but I find it hard to believe there were 300 plus tests played this calendar year... im all for growth, but I can’t see the value in shortening tests to suit aspiring minnows who will in most instances get beat inside 4 days anyway by the giants, and the the giants vs giants games may result in more draws (which is where I favour your 100+ over idea if the days are shortened).... More draws and floggings are not appealing to me... Even if the ICC is pushing for it, the big question is are the BCCI behind it???...
