Sorry for your injury Stephen, an act of " she'll be right mate " only to discover you're not young, 10ft tall and bulletproof anymore.
Onto a totally different patch of grass, saw Flores last night on teev and he just exudes this aura of good playmaker - even via an electronic gizmo. Can anyone tell me why he can't play out the season in A-League? - Even if he could Viddie would probably play him out of position with no-one to pass to except Eugene or Jamo!

He can be a guest player, but can't play in the last 4 matches of the season anyway. Viddie doesn't want to risk injuring him before the ACL starts.

Maybe Viddie is doing the same thing with Lloyd?!? haha I wish he'd give the guy a chance! Cristiano is as useless as firing a spud gun at a tank.

I agree about playing Owusu, especially playing him alongside Monterosso with Leckie, Doddgy & Shin2 behind them.

Hi Redcup, it wasn't 'she'll be right, mate'. I had been being very careful and the rehab had been going well. I was in sand and it gave way when I made one thoughtless move. Seems the recovery hadn't been as sound as possible. I know I'm not young anymore and I was desperate to make a good recovery so I could play again. But shit happens. As you know. Wouldn't we all like to be 25, toned and invulnerable forever? As you all know, I'm in the "bring back Owusu and promote Monte" club. Will it ever happen? Maybe in th ACL.

Has anyone else seen the Advertiser this morning. Two Reds linked reports. One suggests Marrone's contract offer was withdrawn before he went to NQ!! One suggesting we know about Allsopp being available but we haven't given it much thought!!!
I hope it's just stirring (again) but if it's true you just have to wonder what is - and has been - going on.
And by way of apology for the bun-fight on my blog, you can be sure I'll be writing solely about our team this coming week.

No worries Stephen, Gaz tends to get stuck in and he has a very abraisive personality. A lot of the GCU 'fans' annoy me - the only one who doesn't is brew007.

Ta General, it's not so much what Gaz says anymore as what happens when he says anything. It sets up a pattern of behaviour from others and then the actual debate gets lost. I don't like contributing to that pattern or being part of allowing more abuse of Gaz. But, hey, it's a forum....I can't control it but I end up feeling responsible for it.
In the end I wrote about the Smeltz tackle because there was so little else to focus on. We played well but we couldn't finish. Basically that's been happening all season. Sometimes we play well for 15, 25, 35, 45, 65 or (you name it) minutes. We create chances. We miss them. We still have no owner. We still seem to have a bizarre, 'pull the names out of a hat' selection policy. We let good players go and play bad players. We won't give the leading YT scorer a chance in the seniors.
As a blogger I just hope that we have a bloody brilliant win this week and I can have short, sweet gloat. It's been a while. :)

Yesterday the debate was sadly lost as it slid down to the depths of us against them (or maybe that should us against HIM). Normally I would just try and skim over comments that simply try and provoke but i dont know what it is about Gaz....](*,) ...even I had to lower myself to respond to the arrogance. However, after thinking about it all on the drive home from work last night that will be the last time I bother. It's not worth it. The guy will continue to walk around the forums of 442 like a God and he will continue to suck in some to his dead end arrognace. I wont be one of them. Lets all hope Friday night gives you enough ammo to write a positive blog!

For those of you wishing to read the story on Marrone: http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,26581735-5006373,00.htmlHard one to call seeing as we don't have all the facts but looks like Marrone is taking the high road on this one and staying silent. In my opinion, Marrone did well to wait until his injury had healed before talking negotiations. At the end of the day, they just decrease your value. The article states that AU signed Boogaard in the mean time. Someone around here said once that he was on $45k and was offered $60k?? Or he was on $45k and wanted $60k?? I can't remember and we can't prove it anyway, but here's my final argument on the matter: When players on a lot more money (and i'm talking 100k and above) do absolutely jack shit, you have to wonder why AU did not: a) Wait until his injury had healed. After all, Pantelis negotiations have been going for MONTHS! b) Offer Marrone a substantial increase... the kid is worth more than $45k PA.. without a doubt. Given player salaries are secret, it's hard to determine where he'd fit in the salary cap. But IMO he should be commanding $55k-$75k pa. At the end of the day, i had this kid in my fantasy AU line up, even when Aureckmal Vidullah wasn't playing him. He's always had my vote. It's obvious how good he is. It leaves me gob-smacked and shell-shocked how our club does business.

This is the problem we are not doing business. and only a new owner will change this all the time was spent on getting flores from argentina which is great. Unfortunantly we lost sight of things at home Marrone is a great player we would be building a great young team of the future with the likes of leckie, marrone, shin , mullen, monty , brigitti interesting to see that owusu earnt a penalty for the youth team only for the captain mullen to take the shot shows alot of character from him but would be good to have owusu on the score board

Seeing Marrone go seems to unbalance the 'magic' for me, so to speak. Penalty takers are usually take by captains or whoever has 'senior rank' with the team. Mullen has taken every penalty (that i'm aware of) this season... and he's put them away too!:d Anyway, it's good to see Lloyd win a penalty for our team who are doing great things at the moment.

On the topic of our youth, i went home for lunch and found the Messenger in my driveway. There was in interesting story on our Baby Reds and the upcoming ACL...i've tried to replicate formatting as close to the article as possible.... check it out: The Leader Messenger wrote: Baby Reds push for ACL berth Jai Bednall
A TRIO of Adelaide United Youth League players have begun training with the Reds’ senior squad in the hope of pressing their claims for an Asian Champions League (ACL) contract.
Matthew Mullen (Wynn Vale), Perry Mitris (Hyde Park) and Liam Wooding (Moana) were called up by coach Aurelio Vidmar a month ago after a string of strong performances in the Youth League.
They have joined Canberra recruit Dane Milovanovic, who has been training with the seniors for most of the season.
Vidmar is able to expand his squad from 23 to 30 players for the ACL, opening the door for the young charges to push for a berth.
Baby Reds coach Joe Mullen, who had four players Michael Marrone, Francesco Monterosso, Joe Costa and Osama Malik from his team offered A-League contracts last season, said the trio deserved their chance.
"They’re training a minimum of twice a week," Mullen said.
"They’ll be joined by others soon. Joel Allwright (Craigmore) has had a good season and performed well in the practice match we had with the A-League (last week)."
"Those five (Mullen, Mitris, Wooding, Milovanovic and Allwright) will all come under consideration for an ACL contract."
Others to have impressed Mullen this season include Allenby Gardens striker Evan Kostopoulos, defenders Alex Sunasky (Golden Grove) and Michael Doyle (Hillbank) and midfielder Andrew Ciarla (Fulham Gardens).
"Although Evan hasn’t started a game - mainly because we’ve had Monterosso and Lloyd Owusu dropping back from the A-League almost every week - he’s taken his chances."
"Alex Sunasky and Michael Doyle have been very steady for us, those two are certainly asking the question, and Andrew Ciarla I think has stepped up this year and is playing a lot more consistent football."
"He’s injured at the moment so he might be a few weeks off but he’s asking the question as well."
Mullen said the standard of the Youth League had risen markedly this season and that it wasn’t only Adelaide United that was scouting his players.
"The players are realising it’s not as great a gap as they think."
"I’ve got no doubt other A-League clubs are looking at all Youth League players. We had Malik go to North Queensland last year for example."

Hey guys new here just adding a comment and question we had Michael Baird here for a trial and Vidmar said he was in for a contract and earlier on in the season he was talking about being interested in Mario Karlovic.. So what is happening here?
Happy with the signings of Boogard and Flores.. What do u guys think of Milanovic? Also I wouldnt mind keeping Owusu for the ACL and getting rid of Christiano.. Will they keep Alemao?

Welcome Skyhigh. There has been no more news regarding Baird or Karlovic, as far as I know. And I agree that Owusu would be an asset for the ACL. I've always liked Cristiano, but I do think it's time for him to go. Alemao is still an enigma for me. Hopefully Cassio stays as well.

Thanks RU.. Yeh i hope Cassio stays at the moment.. Just hoping Flores lives upto expectations and that Boogard goes well for us too.. Wish we didnt get rid of Sasa but hopefully we can find someone in the same stature or if he decides to come back.
I see that Peter Elefthrakis is playing for Adelaide City just wondering how he is going? Would he be a shot of getting a contract?

I have a gut feeling that Cassio will stay, his family seem to have settled in well and his lad plays for the Pirates U7's, - of course I may be wrong but I just get that feeling that harmony and family life are high on Cassio's agenda. Similarly after seeing Flores on teev he just has the look of a gun. I'm pretty sure that anyone from Adelaide City will be warned off of Adelaide United, remember Mori & Pezos signed for interstate clubs in front of choosing United. I doubt that we could afford Og now, but Bruce may choose to come back if he doesn't make the WC squad. But of couse this is all gut feeling only. Edited by redcup: 13/1/2010 10:38:13 PM

Starting to get excited about tommorrow nights game.
I think we hae a very good chance of getting the 3 points - I would love to experience that rare feeling of walking out of the gates at Hindmarsh having witnessed a convincig and well fought win. You know the round 11 vs SFC feeling.:d
Heres my (hopeful) starting line up:
Galaka Fyfe - Mullen - Rudan - Cassio Marrone Dodd - Barbs - Leckie - Jamo Owusu

Looked very shaky near the end after Aloisi scored. I also can't wait for tomorrow night's game. It feels like ages since I was at Hindmarsh last, but it's only been a month. Hoping that a lot of people turn up for the game. I'll try and get there early for the Youth League game too. My lineup, pretty much the same as yours, Unit: Galekovic Mullen - Fyfe - Rudan - Cassio Marrone Dodd ----- Jamieson Barbiero Leckie - Owusu
Bench: Birighitti, Shin, Monterosso, Alemao I know that my lineup will most likely not be used... :p

My 2 cents worth
Eugene Mullen Fyfe Rudan Jamo Marrone Dodd Barbs Cassio Leckie Owusu
I think Fyfe is a MUCH better CB that RB. Also we have never(in my memory)tried Owusu's knock down abilities partnered with Leckie's pace running around him have we??? Also I'd happily swap Cassio and Jamo just for once but it aint gona happen so I'd still be quite happy with this.

Why can i never get my damn formatting to work for my line ups???!!!! grrr
If reid's back it makes it hard for me to pick who to drop. Maybe give him another stint or two playing 60 mins in the YL to aid recovery.

You're probably way closer to actuality than me RER, but wasn't Mori approached and United would not, or maybe could not, pay the price that Bob D'Ottavi asked. Of course I may be off the mark, because I couldn't get my head around the pissing contest as I didn't know any real facts.
