what is the point of dropping Monterosso...we have nothing else to gain this season....may as well play the Youth League's top scorer....or is Vidmar trying to win us the wooden spoon for sure.... We still have somthing to play for in the youth league maybe its not an aleague trophy but the youth deserve to win somthing they have been great all year cant wait to go down early today and watch the young bucks go for top

Why bother putting these young kid's in a team that's run its race & lost. The club's admin & coach may not have done their best this season, but they're all we've got and I, for one don't like what's been done over the season but still support them as they are THE REDS

i personally think that a dead rubber A-League game is way more important than a Youth League game...
Monterosso deserves his chance to play in the senior squad as he shits all over Owusu and Christiano combined

And guess who scores in the Youth League match this afternoon? Monterosso and Kostopoulos (as well as Wright and Rayner...) - It's too bad we couldn't hang on to our lead... :(
As for the senior squad... FINALLY! :p

Vidmar said in the interview post-match that they hope to make an announcement on another signing within the next 3-4 days. He wouldn't reveal player name, team or even position so i guess we'll have to wait.

I heard Alby Kid mention the same thing on the post-match analysis on Life FM. I sure hope it's a striker we're signing...

I'm speculating that Cassio, Flores, Shin and Owusu (for now) are safe from the cull. Cristiano is obviously dead-man walking at the moment. That just leaves Alemao. If van Dijk were to join us, he'd have to take Alemao's spot on the roster. However, if we signed a local striker, such as Elasi as people are suggesting, he'd still fall within our visa quota limit. I'm hoping for the latter, as much as I like van Dijk when he shoots on target (read: limited).

I'd be happy to see van Dijk join. He's a genuine striker. He actually scores goals regularly. Not great but good enough if well supported.
Disagree about the quality of the game. We have played well for parts of the last few weeks and put some good football together but most of last night was fast, accurate and aggressive play. Most importantly - we scored twice. For me - call me silly - scoring and winning tells me that we played quite well.

Doesn't Van Dijk qualify for Australian Citizenship now? He has been around for a while, so surely he can slip into our squad as an 'Aussie'.

We have Owusu, Cassio and Flores as our foreign contingent, and Shin as our Asian player. I'm still thinking along the lines of Aloisi. As for last nights game - was so pleased we won AND scored 2 goals!!I just went along to see Flores. What a dynamic he gives the team!! Finally a midfielder with vision and the ability to read a game. Roar had no answer to him - other than to lunge at the ball that was no longer there, - just hope the Adelaide malaise doesn't conquer him!

Whilst at the game on Saturday night, I couldn't help but smile when I saw Flores actually doing first touch passing, which confused the hell out of the Brisbane midfield.
I can see him being our TRUE no.10 player for the ACL.

To qualify as an Australian he has to have been a permanent resident for 5 years and be a citizen, not a citizen for 5 years - Salley fell 18 months short as the start of the ACL. OK Sautrday was a fizzer for a catch up, will have to try again at an ACL game. The North Eastern Bar is the one I was thinking of BTW, didn't see anyone hanging around and I was there a little late. Sat with a guy with 3 kids and a couple of blokes with their families. Good chat and they are of similar opinions to the rest of us.

Thanks General. I read in a thread that van Dijk is naturalized, I'd hate for United to make a similar stuff up as they did with Grffiths!

So any inside word on what's happening with this striker we're getting? Surely it's gotta be Van Dijk...

Haven't heard anything yet - on another note a mate I work with was at a wedding in Melbourne on the weekend and it turns out that Mark Viduka is a family friend of his! He didn't even know and his dad had never told him. So there he is in church, does his reading for the wedding, walking back to his seat does a massive double take at seeing Viduka and wife there as well! His old man at the reception even gave Dukes a hearty backslap :D Said he was looking very fit and was going to go into more detail when one of his clients rang and I haven't seen him for the rest of the day - talk about being left hanging!

Viduka would be nice and would fill the stands, but he wont play anywhere else other than Melbourne IF at all. I would have liked him to go somewhere in January as the Socceroo's DESPERATELY need him, but it didn't happen, here's still hoping.
As for Van Dijk and is he/isn't he qualified. We will sign him. The fact he is ineligible to play in the ACL due to his non australian citizenship and our already full quota of foreigners is obvious to us, but those at Adelaide United house haven't read the fine print yet. We still can expect the excited media conference, Viddie to rant how 'he is a special player, he'll fit in nicely and he's just what we need' the media vision of him training with the team, the broken english interview and then the 2 week waiting period where someone lets them know he is ineligible and the now all to familiar 'we are speaking to the AFC to see if there's anyway we can allow them to play'.
Unfortunately when the place is a circus, all you'll find inside is clowns.

Did anyone get a chance to read the paper this morning? I ran out of time but saw an article in it about SVD...

i just skimmed the article at the reception desk here and it says that we do in fact want to sign SVD on a 6 month deal but nothing has been signed yet.
Also mentions the embarassing situation of 2 years in a row the ACL having a bottom placed club in it so hopefully that may get sorted one day.
Also it says Griffiths has all but been cleared to play in the ACL BUT we now have to wait on his Saudi Club signing all relevant release forms in the next 7 days before the final day of registering players for teh ACL

ditto, have now and done some commentating. As for the AFC being a little concerned about our current status with regard to the ACL. We qualified according to the conditions they provided so if they stop us playing in the ACL then we should sue the hell out of them.
