+x+xJordan 0 Vietnam 0 UAE 3 North Korea 0 Vietnam qualifying is still pretty likely from this point, any win against North Korea will do it, and they'll go through in first if Jordan and UAE draw (likely avoiding South Korea), or second if either win. Still a decent chance of all qualifiers being all East Zone. Uae 4 points + 2 jordan 4 points +1 vietnam 2 points (+0) If UAe n Jordan draw, vietnam is still out unless a win by at least 2 goals

+x+xWow, didn't realise Japan lost both games. That's massive. They fielded an under 20 team knowing they will be in the final regardless. Still many of then playing in J league.. nt the worst squad. After an embarrassing performance a lot of jap fans calling for the coach to resign.

Big game tonight, it’s going to be a tough grind given Japan are out so semi’s is a must for a chance.

+x+xWe were bloody awful. Only once the Thais ran out of gas in the second half could we start to string a couple of passes together. Thailand was extremely dominant in the first half, we looked awful in attack midfield and defence. I take no satisfaction out of beating a team that was walking. A decent team would beat us by 3-4 goals at least. Good sides don't fatigue so badly and give us that opportunity to take control. Strange as the host nation, with a squad of domestic players already being acclimatised struggled so bad with the conditions. Our set-pieces have been abysmal. Passes from cbs straight to attackers, glover not making saves and poor distribution, no ability to retain the ball under pressure in midfield and no ability to press the opposition. Thailand was extremely dominant in the first half, we looked awful in attack midfield and defence.... and we were level at half time. The fact that we were able to outrun the Thais in the second half is a credit to the fitness staff. Don't forget they pummelled Bahrain in the first game 5-0 (which is not bad for a team that walks!). You've just highlighted again that you have very little idea of the challenges of playing in Asia. So why were the Thai's gassed against us but not against Bahrain? Their fitness was great and then poor. Was there no rotation? (i don't know the answer to that). But in football terms one team played good football, and one team didn't. If we can't raise our standards we will never qualify for the Olympics again. Simple as that.

Glover Cleur Mourdoukoutas Ryan Gerbsach (C) Baccus Duncan Najjarine Bouman Piscopo Toure
Arnie heavily rotating the side once again.
Disappointed to see Daggers and Deng dropped but at the same time, I’m pleased to see Toure starting.
Really not sure why Bouman or Cleur are starting or why they are even in the squad.

+x+x+x+xFrom viewing this weeks HAL games there seemed to be heaps of players playing regular HAL football, or HAL subs, who were eligible for this Olympic team who weren't playing. *CCM Rowles De Silva Silvera *Glory Ikon Popovic X 2 *City Metcalf (suspended) Atkinson (s) Wales (s) *AU McGree (s) Blackwood *Victory Hope Lesiotis? *Overseas Souttar Arzani There could be a lot more too. Why aren't they playing? Most want to go to the Olympics. Do you live in a nursing home? In case you missed it, Arzani is recovering from a career threatening injury. Why risk playing him in a huge tournament when he’s played nearly zero football. Ikonomidis is born in 1995. Even if he was scoring five goals every week in Perth he would be ruled out of this tournament. McGree is suspended for this tournament. Likewise Atkinson and Wales. WTF Hope achieved this season? Close to nothing. Hope is possibly achieving a lot more than some of the players selected. One of the issues was that Australia wasn't able to disturb central Thai build ups effectively, by being unable to make intercepts from effective individual and collective defensive positioning. Moreover , the CBs weren't able to play the ball out, because the lack of movement of DMs and others was inadequate. Players were not thinking where they needed to be in order to support the ball carrier. Hope, has displayed these attributes for Victory, even if the current coach isn't playing him as a starter. I'm not sure where some of the other under 23s play their club football? I know the HAL players, but the Aus under 23 CBs and the DMs, struggled against Thailand in the first half - when we had the ball, and, when they had the ball. Genreau was more effective when he came on. "Hope is possibly achieving a lot more than some of the players selected." What a bland generalising statement. How can you take yourself seriously when you're scratching your head wondering why Ikonomidis, McGree and Atkinson etc aren't playing in Thailand haha. Why not respond to the football specific criteria about Hope delineated in the post, pal? I know why Atkinson and McGree aren’t playing.

Get off your high horse and look at the '(s)' D, put beside Wales, Atkinson, and McGree in his initial post. ffs. Its a public forum where people voice their opinions and potentially make mistakes. If you can't handle that, then these forums aren't the place for you friend. This guy is trying to be deliberately obnoxious, DS98.

Thailand didn't rotate at all against Australia and it cost them dearly. It appears these conditions certainly take their toll. Listening to the fox sports podcast it was really interesting to hear Phil Moss talk about some of his tours and how the conditions essentially shut down your brain and systems. Of course modern pros combat it better but there's certainly an effect there.
We've clearly rotated again to maintain and amount of freshness. Now we get to see if Bouman can link with Toure. Disappointing that Metcalfe isn't starting but let's hope we just advance then can use the best players.

Wow a kick off countdown in an empty stadium. Can't stand that loud AFC music that is played every goal.

We should try and host this tournament one day. Every 2 years there's a decent chance with the rotation.
