+x+x+xanyone know if Mauk transfer is effective immediately or at the end of the year? if its immediate then surely that means someone else on the way in. Now to just get rid of ROD, AAH and Mcging and we will be rid of most of our dead weight. The biggest dead weight will always be Bowles and Pepper. Peppers on about $80k. That’s a lightweight on the cap. If you replace him you’ll only get another lightweight player Wasn't talking about the price of him though, talking about ability of both, they are not up to it by a long shot, either one of them in the starting 11 as well is a joke, I'm sorry. With the cap I understand you need cheap players but they should not be starting.

+x+x+x+xI'm with those that think Akbari is on the up. We thort that with Caletti but didn't seem to eventuate. Given the game time I think he'll do well. He appears more thoughtful in his play and passing than O'Neil. Not saying better or worse just different but more like Brattan. IMO. Im happy to start him. Caletti had plenty of chances but unfortunately he struggled due to his size. Akbari isn't that much bigger though but I just get the feeling that he can push on and become an important player for us. Historically speaking, "he can push on and become an important player for another club" would be more accurate. Those who knock the roundabout of Australian football often forget that some of those players are on their way up or at their peak - not necessarily only journeymen and squaddies. I often think about how good a side we could build using only players in other A-League clubs that have previously played for us. It seems to me there is usually quite a good team out there of ex-Roar players. Redmayne/Reddy Franjic Devere Donachie O'Toole (too soon?) Brattan Berisha Barbarousus McLaren Possibly throw an Ingham in there too for numbers. if you are throwing ingham in there then why not Kruse. there are definitely a lot of pretty good ex roar players floating around, jurman, yeboah, zullo, daggs, Dimi, fitzgerald, lauchie jackson, acton, barnett, tommy oar, halloran. pretty decent lot of players I was just running off names I could think of on the fly - you illustrate my point perfectly thanks.

I think Pepper gets a bit of a bad wrap. He might not be the best defensive midfielder, but he does a good job when asked.
I have mixed feelings about Mauk. He seems like he has a great deal of potential and is about to move up a gear, but something has held him back. Wish him the best with his move. I'm sure there be a couple of posters put some interesting spin on the fact that a Roar bench player has moved to Adelaide.

Absolutely but I don't view them as dead weight because they can do an adequate job when called upon and don't take up much cap space. Mcging has shown that he can not do an adequate job if needed to start a game or two so his call spend (however little he is on) is wasted. ROD and AAH are not starters, are foreigners and are on decent cash so they are dead weight. Mauk is on decent cash and was not performing so dead weight. Even though I think he has potential to be a good player he is not reaching that potential so best move him on.

I am sure Mauk will regain his form in a team that plays fast transition football. Meanwhile back at the ranch.

+xI'm sure there be a couple of posters put some interesting spin on the fact that a Roar bench player has moved to Adelaide. Here's a United fan's "spin"... A promising player played 6 good month of A-League football and went overseas. He had to come back for game time, moved AGAIN to a struggling team where presumably his attitude more than ability has seem him lose favour with a new coach. He has now gone back to his home town team who are trying to recruit as many locals as possible, where he had that initial good 6 months to hopefully reignite a somewhat faltering career.

surely we are not done with the signings yet. we have 20 senior players at the moment and 4 scholarship players.
its not the spot that we need but Berni Ibini is still free after "failing" the medical in Iran.
hopefully someone is on the way in

You're not the spinner I was referring to ;) Your posts are fair and reasonable.
One of your fellow fans on the other hand, had decided before a ball was kicked in anger that the Roar were absolute shit and has persisted with this line after most Roar games. He also maintained Adelaide were a much classier team. Meanwhile 14 games gone and 2 points separate the shit side and the class side.
Now we see a Roar bench player transfer to Adelaide, and the odds are the same poster will be claiming that Mauk's talent will be unleashed due to escaping the crap Roar environment and being engulfed by the classy, world beating team environment that is Adelaide United.
As I have said, I wish Mauk the best and hope he can fulfill his potential with Adelaide. He's had four different coaches since he left Adelaide and not been able to produce what people were expecting.

Being a bench player at Roar is hardly an insult. I am sure ROD back at NJ's would do fine ,just as Mauk at AU wil. Roar's slow build up play negates players suited to getting the ball forward quickly. Lets see if RF's method gets Roar higher than seventh. He has brought in one slow old, more technical player ,obviously to try and unlock those stacked defences. How that works out long term is anyones guess. Personally ,I dont think we have the quality at the moment to succeed at that style of play? Lets see if we can pose a serious threat to SFC.

Im realistic, i dont think we will trouble SFC. There defence is to well functioning at the moment for us to break down. I think they will put a couple past us to but that is ok. I will be happy if we can keep possession for long periods and dont look outclassed on the ball and dont just park the bus.
i think we can do that and keep it respectable that would be a huge improvement since our last meeting and something we can push on from.

So who do we go for now that we've sold Mauk and have the extra cash? It's a big shame mauk didn't work out for us tbh.

+xSo who do we go for now that we've sold Mauk and have the extra cash? It's a big shame mauk didn't work out for us tbh. Massive turnover of players and disgruntled players tells me that Fowler got both his recruitment and his retentions wrong . The success of foreign coaches in the A League is something club owners should heed , I for one will be glad to see the back of Fowler and his 2 mates.

The success of foreign coaches in the A League is something club owners should heed , I for one will be glad to see the back of Fowler and his 2 mates. RF is going to make mistakes, that is a given, so lets move on. The team has mostly done better in the second half to the first, suggesting that the coaching staff have had significant input into the team at half time. A great improvement on John Aloisi's time as coach. Again, that there is a clearout of players now suggests that the coaching staff are on top of their game, acknowledging (some) mistakes, and plugging gaps. I'm disappointed that Mauk didn't work out, but as someone posted elsewhere, he's not had a good relationship with a coach in 4 years, so its probably not all RF's fault. The energy bought by McDonald and Wenzell-Halls last week was very positive. Hopefully we see more of that tonight. Again, it shows maybe the coach has learnt a lesson or two. They are in the run on team again tonight. At this stage, I am hopeful of making the 6, and even getting to 4th. Lets see how things go. I am also expectant that we will be a top two team next year with the progression made by both team and coach through the season.

Wenzel-Halls is pretty shit. I know that’s an unpopular opinion but 12 minutes in and he’s stuffed up three attacks already with poor touch.

Would be great if we can drop ROD before midnight. Can't imagine anyone else is coming in. Would like to see AAH come on pairing with McDonald in the second half.

Is he missing sitters in front of goal though like Inman the past few weeks? Rather poor touches than poor finishes, honestly your hate for DWH is a little unhealthy Waz, but I am a Hypocrite when it comes to Bowles and Pepper.

Typical Chris Beath decision.....tenth of a second to move your arm......and tuff luck penalty.
Brisbane have had some tuff decisions from Beath over the years.

Dylan is a cult hero but he’s no starter for me - had he come off the bench for the last thirty minutes I think we would have drawn that game

You see it every game. We tend to get frustrated with our historical stupidity and once you are on his bad side in a game you are screwed. Kicking thew ball away in the last minute - ignored.

I don’t think the decision is as clear cut as the fox commentators make out - the law allows for the lack of time a player has to respond to a fast moving ball and I don’t think Neville has enough time to get out of the way.
But the penalty didn’t cost us the game - O’Shea, Holloway and Pepper all should have scored.

Little bitter about that one. I think we will scrape into the 6. I thought Roar played some good football during the game and we just missing 2 good game breaking players as the squad is good. Flowler been quick to get rid of underperforming players.
Just waiting for the trolls to tell me how shit we are.

We have not hit our peak yet. I have decided that we are a good team, and we can beat any other team on just a good day. We did not score (again) but we had some truly excellent chances to. Our defence was exposed a few times to the fast run through or behind, but for the most part players got back to help out and recover.

I think we can definitely go better. To be honest I think currently we don't have much improvement left. But surely feel if the mentality stays and we get 2 game changers in the team. I think we will be in the mix next season. I don't think innman and O'Shea are quite the level of say a broich, Castro or ninkovic like player, we need in the side to be more than making up the numbers in the finals. The thing is Roar is playing greater than the sum of its parts which shows some good management. While wsw had a good squad but definitely not playing to their potential.
